For instance, if I'd had six on the go, I'd probably have pulled three out at the break at around 12 minutes, and carried those ones on differently with far fewer layers. I’m learning that it’s a process going through the various stages of development from bare tag to finished background… to completed artwork. You've hit the nail on the head, it's all about process for me... I'm much less interested in the end results!! So eventually there will probably be some collaging of some sort over these backgrounds (but it's not unusual for backgrounds to sit around for literally years before moving on to the next stages), but for now it's the layering and exploring and looking that matters. If I'd been working with six tags, I'd probably have taken three out at the halfway stage (around 12 minutes where there's a video edit), as I really loved them at that stage too. Then those three might have stayed like that, or taken a different path into the next layers, a different exploration process. Ah well, another time! Have a great time with your family (my brother, niece and nephew are visiting at the moment, so I'm doing the same!).

I have these stencil and recently came across some colored mica powder (Rolio pigment) that I could use, tfs I have the crayons too, I’ll have to do this too
Beautiful colors. I loved your use of picket fence crayon over texture paste. The explanation of white splatters , lights for summer, and ice or snow winter was eye-opening. I'd never thought about them being anything other than a splatter ❤

Quick note: the Tim Holtz stencil called Script is number THS149. I really like Script and was looking up the THS 179 reference you listed and it’s the Wheel. Thank you for your beautiful work! Fabulous grungy texture and such an enjoyable series! I do love using texture paste. For a different look, you could highlight areas of the texture with gilding wax/polish - silver or gold would look rather opulent, I think. Thank you for these reminders - I really need to go and have a play now! (I have got my crackle paste so need to play with that too...)
You're absolutely right - gilding is a great way to highlight textures. I do love the Treasure Gold waxes, but metallics tend to put in only a limited number of appearances on my craft desk. You're exactly right about the word opulent... but I'm more likely to go for a matte, decayed, weathered, grungy or rusty look! Tarnished gold or weathered copper with a nice matte blue-green decayed patina over it... that would be my thing. Something to put in the to-film list!! But you go right ahead and gild away... your textures will look amazing! Have fun playing - and thank you so much for watching and for your great comment.

There's no need to have all the distress products... you can create lovely effects with just a few inks, or paints, or whatever you have. The labels are available to download and print for free on the Ranger website - rangerink.com/pages/organize-your-ranger-products ... if you hover your mouse over the various products you get a range of options for printing. If you print on label paper, they will be ready to stick, but you can use a glue stick if not.
Thank you so much - happy you like them. They're just backgrounds so far, of course - there will be future stages at some point! As far as "doing" anything with them... I'm not sure what you "do" with any piece of art. For me, the making is the doing. The state of flow I find in creativity, the learning that happens with each creation, the playfulness of exploration, the combining of colours and textures - those are the value for me. Many of my tags live in crates in my studio, for flicking through for inspiration or for pleasure (you can see what I mean in these Shorts - th-cam.com/video/EwkvmSSKvb4/w-d-xo.html ). Others come out for seasonal displays during the year. Sometimes I'll create a little tag book, or use a tag (either a background or a finished tag) as the basis for a journal page (you can see that kind of thing here th-cam.com/video/TYqLY1mSDsI/w-d-xo.html) Occasionally I'll give one as a gift, or as a gifttag on a gift as an extra gift!! Hope that gives you some idea of what I do with mine. You could use them as card toppers, but for some reason I hate making cards! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. They are size 8 tags, similar to these by Ranger - rangerink.com/products/tim-holtz-distress-mixed-media-heavystock-8-tags-20pk though those are not the ones I'm using. I used to source mine from an independent craft retailer in the UK, but sadly they closed down earlier this year, unable to continue competing with the likes of Amazon. Oh, that's so kind of you - it really is just playing for me. If I'd been working with six of them, I'd probably have taken three out at the midway point (around 12 minutes when the edit comes), and either left them at that stage (which I also really liked) or developed those three differently. So it's not that there's a "right" end point that I'm aiming for... just playing! Thanks so much, as always, for your lovely comments here.

Beautiful colors. I loved your use of picket fence crayon over texture paste. The explanation of white splatters , lights for summer, and ice or snow winter was eye-opening. I'd never thought about them being anything other than a splatter ❤

Fabulous grungy texture and such an enjoyable series! I do love using texture paste. For a different look, you could highlight areas of the texture with gilding wax/polish - silver or gold would look rather opulent, I think. Thank you for these reminders - I really need to go and have a play now! (I have got my crackle paste so need to play with that too...)
You're absolutely right - gilding is a great way to highlight textures. I do love the Treasure Gold waxes, but metallics tend to put in only a limited number of appearances on my craft desk. You're exactly right about the word opulent... but I'm more likely to go for a matte, decayed, weathered, grungy or rusty look! Tarnished gold or weathered copper with a nice matte blue-green decayed patina over it... that would be my thing. Something to put in the to-film list!!
But you go right ahead and gild away... your textures will look amazing! Have fun playing - and thank you so much for watching and for your great comment.

I’ve been making tags with the moon mask and stencil and omg! My mom is texting me that she needs a few. And yes, these will definitely make their way to some sort of completion eventually (though it's not unusual for backgrounds to wait sometimes literally years for the next stages to happen! I'll try not to leave it that long...).

There's no need to have all the distress products... you can create lovely effects with just a few inks, or paints, or whatever you have. The labels are available to download and print for free on the Ranger website - rangerink.com/pages/organize-your-ranger-products ... if you hover your mouse over the various products you get a range of options for printing. If you print on label paper, they will be ready to stick, but you can use a glue stick if not.

As far as "doing" anything with them... I'm not sure what you "do" with any piece of art. For me, the making is the doing. The state of flow I find in creativity, the learning that happens with each creation, the playfulness of exploration, the combining of colours and textures - those are the value for me.
Many of my tags live in crates in my studio, for flicking through for inspiration or for pleasure (you can see what I mean in these Shorts - th-cam.com/video/EwkvmSSKvb4/w-d-xo.html ). Others come out for seasonal displays during the year.
Sometimes I'll create a little tag book, or use a tag (either a background or a finished tag) as the basis for a journal page (you can see that kind of thing here th-cam.com/video/TYqLY1mSDsI/w-d-xo.html)
Occasionally I'll give one as a gift, or as a gifttag on a gift as an extra gift!! Hope that gives you some idea of what I do with mine. You could use them as card toppers, but for some reason I hate making cards!

They are size 8 tags, similar to these by Ranger - rangerink.com/products/tim-holtz-distress-mixed-media-heavystock-8-tags-20pk though those are not the ones I'm using. I used to source mine from an independent craft retailer in the UK, but sadly they closed down earlier this year, unable to continue competing with the likes of Amazon. I've got some to keep me going for a while, but then I'm going to have to find a new source.
