    I finally decided to get one and I'm in love with this watch. Zero regrets, if you are reading this and you are not sure because the "quartz thing" forget about that and just get it, trust me, beautiful watch.

    I had a Tuna for 4 years and it still leaves no scratches even when I accidentally whack it against the wall or against something hard. An absolute beast

      It should be due to Seiko Diashield coating. 👍

    I am completely blown away by Seiko’s design on that watch. Unbelievable.

    I picked up a limited edition Golgo Tuna in Japan 2012. It's still ticking. Over 10 years battery life, amazing. I also have a SBBN017. They are fantastic watches, so accurate, and apart from some slight flaking on the Golgos coating there isn't a mark on them.

    The magnificent Tunas. Probably their most iconic divers. I have a number of them and the favourite is my first model Darth. No Prospex logo on the dial or crown. Marinemaster on the back of the case and not on the dial. The retro colour of the lume. Perfect. I’ll be getting one of these new models as well. I love that they’ve returned to the original style hands.

    UPDATE: A Sub who works on these has confirmed no dual rate trimmers. I did find a 7S46 movement with rate adjuster www.watchuseek.com/attachments/287-jpg.1425947/ picture but they are permanent and cannot be reversed. So do not try this your self.
    *A couple Weeks after filming this. My wife bought a TUNA! 38mm 200m ISO Blue and Gold one I reviewed. Its her favorite watch. Never takes it off. Frederique Constant is now never used. lol "dumb nickname for a watch" is now her favorite watch ever!*

    • @dyslexicbien

      Is 38mm the quartz version?

    • @roadgent7921
      @roadgent7921 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When this movement first came out in 1986 the 7C46A did have two 0.25sec/day trim cutters (not a trimmer screw like on the 7549). They were permanent one time adjusters and were only necessary if something had gone badly wrong. The later 7c46B the trims were disabled. If you watch Spencer Klein he prefers the older 7549 movement.

    There are always the iconic divers from the 60s like the 63mas. Then you have the SKX. Unfortunately those watches are discontinued. The most iconic SEIKO watches and available are the Tuna and the Willard. The best choices in my opinion. This watch and the one with the steel bezel are definitely worth the price tag. The fact that it's not automatic makes it even cooler.

    I am very lucky to own this Tuna version, a PADI MM200 and as of yesterday (because of your review) a Green Willard. Which is my favourite? Well I love all my children equally, but between you and I, the Tuna is No1 and always will be. Mine is running +1sec a month and has been for 7 months of ownership. That is nearly matching my GS 9F!!! JUST BUY IT 😉

  • @urbansherpa
    @urbansherpa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Bought one (SBBN007) about a 12-15 years ago.
    Sold it because it didn’t see enough wrist time.
    After a couple of years of regret, I bought another (SBBN033).
    I love the watch, but still don’t wear it enough, as I have others.
    Promised myself I would NEVER part with this one, because we know how that ends!
    I think I enjoy the Tuna because of its history, and lineage.
    The most ‘purpose built’ analogue watch out there.
    I do prefer the 031/033 hands, as legibility and function are what this watch is all about.
    Legible, simple, tough, and dependable......if not somewhat heavy. Lume is outstanding.
    One of the few watches that I’ve worn that gives me a ‘certain feeling’.
    Truthfully though, it is like using a Land Rover (or HumV) to pick up groceries, as I’d never wear it as a beater.
    *If you like the looks, but want a less expensive ‘Tuna’, I’d recommend the Solar version, as I wear my Solar SNE498 (SNE497) more. It’s lighter, cheaper, and as accurate.

  • @jagermaster1622
    @jagermaster1622 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The strap isn't that way because of ventilation, otherwise there would be no point in only putting vents near the watch case. It is instead so that they act as a spring and keep the watch tight on your wrist even when the deep sea's pressure compresses your body, making your wrist smaller.

  • @johnc.bojemski1757

    Never owned a SEIKO "DIVER". However I SWEAR by them because of another of their watches, an all digital LCD (Remember those?) with a tiny white light "bulb" built in as an on button to allow it to be read in the dark. It was a primary school graduation gift from my parents ($300.00 in 1976!) and it was the best, most durable watch I've ever owned! I wore it EVERY DAY! It was my companion on trips to the Atlantic Beaches of Long island to camping in the deep woods of Maine, to hiking and climbing in the "PRESIDENTIAL MOUNTAIN RANGE" in New Hampshire, including up BOTH sides of Mt.Washington, highest peak in the Eastern United States. (Also the MOST notorious for the WORST weather in the USA too! Fastest winds EVER recorded in a storm (Over 200MPH!) were recorded at the weather station/observatory up at the summit. My SEIKO DIGITAL never, ever let me down! In over twenty years on my wrist all it required was three new batteries! Amazing! No other watch had EVER stood up to the pounding I have it as a young teenager and well into my adulthood. It finally failed after DECADES of reliable service and I've mourned it ever since. Nobody I took it to could "fix" it! I've STILL got it stashed away in a drawer as a momento of my youth and in appreciation for a good, faithful FRIEND whose earned his final rest. I SWEAR BY SEIKO! Out've respect for my "friend" I've NEVER bought a successor from SEIKO to him. I prefer to honor the memory of our time, trips and adventures together! (One HECK of a timepiece!).

    A bit late response, but I think the 7C46 is indeed a thermocompensated movement. They don't really advertise it (typical Japanese) and call it "Step motor (Load compensated driving pulse type)". My SBBN031 deviates +3 seconds every 6 months. That is exactly the same as my Grand Seiko with a 9F movement. Fantastic timepiece. Thanks for your review.

    My understanding is he accordion strap is not for ventilation, but to allow the watch to be worn when diving. At 20m or more your wetsuit and wrist compress so if the watch band did not, the watch would flop around.

    I just wish it came with the domed crystal, that was a highlight of the original Tuna Can. If Crystal Times or someone comes out with an aftermarket double dome, I'll get this watch to go with my vintage original. I hate how Seiko always seems to purposely flub an identifying feature of the original, as they did on the Turtle and 62mas re-issues.

    • @LanningKann
      @LanningKann ปีที่แล้ว

      The nice thing is the inside dome adds a nice distortion as you turn the face away from your eye-line. So it’s flat on top but domed underneath. That makes the new model unique in its own right.

    Great review and some Tuna facts this Tuna geek didn't know! Willard, MM300, Tuna: the Holy Trinity of Seiko divers. Alongside the Oyster and Reverso it really is one of the all time classics in case design. While its unashamedly a commercial diver, they are surprisingly wearable - super light (Ti, ceramic versions) and the lugless case is genius. Some really cool variations (quartz, Spring Drive and auto), from small to large, but even the 50mm+ originals are totally wearable. Inspired - I'm gonna dust off the Black Emperor! Can't say I approve of a ProSpex logo on a Tuna though. Genuinely excited for 2025 and the inevitable 50th anniversary release!

    The 7C46 does not have dual trimmers or even a trimmer. If you wish to change the regulation there are two wires you can cut. One wire when cut will speed up the timing several seconds. The other when cut will decrease timing by several seconds. This belief that the 7C46 has the ability to be regulated like the older 7548/7549 movements is totally inaccurate (pun intended). The older movements were also metal whereas the 7C46 has many plastic parts. Give me classic all day long.
    Nice video, but please change it to educate with the correct information regarding the 7C46.

      I'll admit I've never opened a Tuna but I found a photo of 7C46A movement with rate adjusts www.watchuseek.com/attachments/287-jpg.1425947/ Not sure if it still needs to be cut and do not fully understand the cutting process as I've never attempted it.

      @patricko9170 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EscapementWatch Hello, I service 7548/7549 and 7C46A/B movements. I can guarantee that it has to be cut and is not reversible. The trimmer screw on the 7548/49 movements can be changed and fine tuned at will.
      I understand as there is a lot of misinformation regarding this movement online. Also, the 7C46 is not thermo-compensated in any way. The coil is not insulated. The 7C46 is a very nice quartz movement, but it was designed in the 80s. Technology has progressed considerably since that time. It would be awesome if Seiko utilized a solar powered movement for the Tuna. The best modern quartz movement Seiko uses is the 5M85 in the "Kinetic Tuna".

      This is not true either...anymore. The 7C46A had the rate trimmer circuits, but the 7C46B did away with them. The change was made in the 2000s sometime.
