      Why are the tyres filled with Nitrogen and not with normal air?

      How is it so easy to understand from you?

    • @ThePhoenixWylde

      Nitrogen is less likely to migrate through tire rubber than is oxygen, which means that your tire pressures will remain more stable over the long term. It's something Nissan utilised when they made the new GT-R.

      So Chain Bear. If by using these thinner gauge tyres, would Low Profile tyres reduce the chances of blistering even more so?

    Hey Chain Bear, great video, interesting as always - thanks. Just a quick request. After Brendon Hartley's crash this weekend at Silverstone, my brain is in a twist trying to work out how wheel tethers work???? What is the mechanic of anchoring the wheels to the car under such extreme circumstances?? How do the tethers not twist as the wheel spins? Thanks - keep up the awesome work :D

    • @wolflegion_
      @wolflegion_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Jett Ski basically it’s an extremely strong zylon (fiber) rope that is attached to the brake and wheel assembly. It’s not fixed in the spinning part (rim + tyre) but a static part (brake assembly).

    • @stephenskehan1204
      @stephenskehan1204 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Cheers Willem. So, if I understand correctly, they are not really wheel tethers at all but rather hub tethers. If the wheel is not correctly attached to the hub then it isnt tethered and can still break loose?

    • @fuzzfizz
      @fuzzfizz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jett Ski if course. if it is attached to the wheel, how long would it take to change the tyre?

    • @rasmusbrekke9412
      @rasmusbrekke9412 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That is correct. We have seen incidents this year with tyres not being fitted correctly on the car during a pit stop and the wheel then departing the car independently of the wheel tethers. Those are there to keep the wheel fastened to the car if the suspension fails.

    Also the thinner rubber can more easilly lose heat energy to the atmosphere and so less builds up and there's less chance of blisters. (This is the reason cars on worn tyres have more trouble getting heat back into them at safety car restarts.)

    Good video, really informative!
    Personally I do like the thick tyres, since it is harder to manage you actually see teams rewarded for building a better fitting car (Ferrari) and managing it better (Verstappen, but Kimi and Vettel aswell). Thus making for a more exciting race.

    • @j3d89
      @j3d89 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tiliad is obvious that this tires help Mercedes .. pirelli said the compound is the same ... But like Vettel said... By shaving a bit the tires become harder and the video shows it lol and Mercedes love harder compound

    • @Tiliad
      @Tiliad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Javier Javier I completely agree with you, I said that I liked the thicker tyres. By which I do mean that I dont like the thinner tyres.
      However Vettel admitted that the thinner tyres are still better than thicker ones. But just watch the video, since it already stated all of that..

    • @j3d89
      @j3d89 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tiliad I was just adding... Not refuting to your comment..for those circuits it help with the degradation... Vettel himself said that is not brainer if you take a layer is becomes harder cuz it stretch less... And we all know who does better with harder tires

  • @AmaroqStarwind
    @AmaroqStarwind 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They could put microscopic thermally conductive particles in the rubber mixture to allow heat to spread more evenly throughout the tire. This would help mitigate blistering.
    They could also use a dye that captures heat and releases it as light.

  • @TMJ32

    They need to stop trying to force pit stops with the tires. Do that with the fuel tanks. Making the tires fragile only robs us of racing. No one can attack another car for more than 5 laps without destroying their entire race. So they don't. If they can't pass easily right away they back off and wait the entire race before going for it in the last 5 laps. Make the tires durable, make them use 2 out of 3 compounds, and make them have to stop 2 or 3 times for fuel. And then they'll be able to race hard with light cars and tires that don't disintegrate as soon as the driver tries to push.

      Bฺlistering makes races unpredictable, yes, but in the long run it's making races an artificial speculation. Instead of competing and pushing their limits, drivers end up having to nurse the tires and pray they won't randomly fail or explode on them. No team and no driver wants unreliable equipment in their cars.

    • @TMJ32
      @TMJ32 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate it. I don't watch F1 to see drivers carefully drive around the track and destroy their tires if they try to go too fast. Sure, occasionally, the stars align and it creates some excitement. It's usually when it rains in practice and the teams don't have any data that it's unpredictable. But more often than not it just ruins the racing. I'd rather see good racing tires but small fuel tanks to force pit stops.

    I'd prefer they won't bring these low blistering tyres and give us more action and pitsops.
    It also shows the different styles of driving with low tyre ware or high much better.

    Video on why the paint on the tyre wall seems to rotate in the opposite direction when travelling at high speeds

    • @dauf69
      @dauf69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's just the frame rate of the camera not synchronized with the tyres.
      F1 cameras operate at 50 Hz, so if the tyre paint looks as if it isn't moving, that means that the rotation of the tyre line up perfectly with the refresh rate (50 Hz, 100 Hz, etc).

    • @MrSanktjakob
      @MrSanktjakob 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is an illusion caused when filming something that is rotating. because the camera takes pictures at a given interval the brain starts understanding it as going backwards as the change in position of the wheel moves closer to the opposite direction. Google it! :D

    • @dauf69
      @dauf69 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can actually calculate the speed of the car by multiplying 50 or 100 Hz by 2*pi and the radius of the tyre.

      Pavan kumar pitting 2 or 3 times would cost too much time.

    • @underscore8085
      @underscore8085 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tires in F1 are the best in motorsport, so they are very expensive. And yes, a pit stop costs a lot of time. 2 stop strategies are the fastest, while one stop strategies rely more on endurance and constant lap times.

    • @Pavankumar-oy3xz
      @Pavankumar-oy3xz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jozsef Molnar
      Redfox
      If all the teams pit twice, wouldn't it neutralise the time lost? Yes, a couple of the teams might pull of a one stopper since they may be more gentle on the tyres but that's the variable.

    • @underscore8085
      @underscore8085 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats were the price comes in. Another thing is that the teams only have a limited number of sets to use during a race weekend. The most sets are used in FP and qualifying, which forces the teams to use a maximum of 3 sets per race (assuming they use a 2-stop-stategy)
      First set -> start to 1st pit stop
      Second set -> 1st to 2nd pit stop
      Third set -> 2nd pit stop to finish

    • @amicaze9570
      @amicaze9570 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You didn't understand what the point of reducing the tread depth was.
      With a normal tire on those tracks, the tire deforms too much, that means that it heats up very quickly, and blisters while it is still relatively new, just some laps I would guess. Cars would have to drive with destroyed tires with all the risk it involves.

    Why didn't Pirelli just bring harder set of tyres instead of modifying the existing ones? I think there is no consistency in modifying a tyre with which all the other races are made. Wouldn't a harder set of tyres achieve the same goal? For example they could bring in Silverstone M/H/SH (which btw we will never see though the year)?

      Because harder wheels are slower. Why do you think there wont be consistency?

      Catrik Well, because modifying the tyre itself is a quite less elegant solution than using a different set of exsisting thres. F1 tyres are made in a certain way and it should stay the same for the whole championship. Who cares if they are slower they are equal for everyone, and also equal to the tyres used in other races

      Everyone has equal chance to shave their tires. "who cares if they are slower" yeah well why don't we race with shopping trolleys then, who cares if they are slower, they are safer and cheaper :D

    What happened to Pirelli choosing tyres to get 2 stop races this year?
    www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-set-for-return-to-two-stop-races-in-2018-says-pirelli-984761/
    So far out of 10 races they have only managed to get the majority of the field doing 2 or more stops 3 times.
    I would have thought if they were aiming for 2 stop races we should get the majority 2 stop a few 1 stop and a few 3 stop races when they overshoot.
    I know cars can push the tyres further and Pirelli won't have all the data. But their success at this stated objective seems to be poor at present and if anything they are getting worse.

    Although it's less than what it used to be, you still have little stops between words
