Hey! I know that I am almost one year late, but I'd like to add something to the "Non playing" point. We guitarist don't like those moments when we can't hide behind our guitar, but we need this: If you are not playing, then you are aaaaaall free to OPEN YOUR MOUTH!! Remind that more than being guitar players, we are WORSHIPERS. Our job is to make the sky come down on earth, and if it's not through the guitar, then it can be by praying, singing, clapping hands or I don't know what else... If someone read this comment, good. If no body does...then good also B blessed
I'm one the worship leaders at a small church and am transitioning from acoustic to electric. I have been having a ton of fun with it but acoustic and electric are VERY different beasts! This video has been so helpful to me! Thank you!
These tips might be super simple to you guys but they're super helpful for an acoustic guitar player finally picking up electric. Thank you! The playthrough at the end was particularly helpful
Best P&W lesson I've seen. I've played guitar for over 30 years and in a P&W band for the last 10. I grew up playing classic rock and have always struggled with electric P&W style. I like how you demoed the different techniques. It's hard for an electric guitar player but "less is more" when it comes to P&W.
One other technique I use is to roll my volume knob down to about 7 and play palm muted power chords - similar to single note lines. Works great between the bass line and another electric playing alternate chords or triads.
Best worship guitar for advanced players .hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to learn about christian guitar lessons online try Worship fixer formula (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend got cool results with it.
THANK YOU! Finding this video was literally an answer to prayer as I mentor an electric guitar player on the worship team I lead. I don't know how to play guitar, but these are tips I can communicate easily as a classically trained musician. Seriously, thank you!
I'd just like to say, worship guitar has been super intimidating to me for a while, but you guys do an amazing job of breaking it down and making it feel more attainable for everyone. I've been studying your videos hard and practicing for hours. Pray I can land a spot on my college's worship team! Thanks guys
These are things I've been trying to do in my role in our worship band(rather than simply always playing 1st position full chords). I found this video to be very supportive: to hear a "pro" talk of doing the same things in order to be more effective in the music mix. Thanks for this!
I've been playing over 47 years, rock, country, blues, bluegrass, and now Christian. Everything he said is true and it is true in all those types of music.
Thanks brother.... this vid in particular truly helped me take a step back to embrace the simplicity in the beauty of enjoying and taking my guitar playing to the next level! From Life Gate/ Paramount CA.... Cheers and blessings my brother in Christ!
Hmmmm, I'm two years late ~ not sure how I haven't stumbled across this before Stunning stuff, such a pleasant change from the other guitar clips I watch every day Going to try and find more......
I’m glad I’ve learned this and applied this through the years with my band. Feels good to hear it from a worship player. Nice vid! Keep it up, God bless you.
Not playing at certain parts is really important for worship. My dad relates this to stocks in the stock market. It’s the process of supply and demand. The more you give out the supply, the demand goes down. But when you limit the supply, the demand goes up, especially when your supply is really good. Withholding big chords or awesome solos until the time is right gives so much value to them when they are released.
Hey there family trust your all good and just awesome. Just relaxing after a long day at work and just enjoying this video. Playing guitar for round bout 12, 13 years, this video is still helpful, especially the effects. Totally helpful, powerful and love it.
Would love if you did one or two more like this where you breakdown how you approach coming up with a part to a song. Major learning in this video! Thank you!
In my humble opinion, the most important thing to learn in this style of music is TRIADS. Not pentatonic, not modes, not jazz chords (I'm a jazzer) but just simple triads. Start with that first then move on to bigger and more exotic things like ADD2, SUS triads and extended triads. Scales and modes are used to connect different triads. This was something I wish someone had told me when I started. I learnt the scales first and felt always out of places or competing with the vocalists when I applied them because first, that's not what the genre is calling for, second I didn't have an extensive understanding of harmony, knowing the right key isn't enough. You have to understand chord tones and extension to apply the right and tasteful notes at the right place in the chord progression.
Thanks for the vid! Tips are great, good reminders even for those who've been playing a little while. Being "OK" with not playing and simple single-note lead lines, and holding out on the chords - good stuff.
Thank you so much man.. I play more metal but now new doors where open to me and your videos have helped me to see the bigger picture for this kind of playing style whom i am in love with now!!!😍
Thank You Men Your a big blessing I have a Solitaire black guitar and a ES 335 Eiphone limited edition for black gold pot hihats knobs and a Firefly 338 and two strata like guitarsblue and white one For rythem and lead Your lessons I appreciate so I can at rythem and lead rythem no problem lead You teach Me a lot about setting out play diamond let ring out count then go to next cord let ring out and lead thank You GOD bless and keep You and Yours.
Hey guys, I just wants to say THANK YOU for this video! I mean I had a good basic grasp on less is more but this takes it even further for me and I'm not a pro guitarist by any means and really never considered different chord shapes and I really loved that part. Please please do more tutorials like this, thanks again and God Bless you guy's
Awesome. I was trying to explain this to someone who only plays chords... for EVERYTHING. I kept saying to arpeggiate but the single note lead lines and diamonds are what I was thinking. I'll just direct him to this video.
Great video. Very informative, concise and clear. It would be great if there was a window showing what your feet are doing with the pedals on your board.
LESS IS MORE!!!!! Like some others have already said, I have learnt to use these techniques and does't just sound good but means I am having to be more creative which is leading to more fun!!! ALSO.. That is a wicked looking guitar. I have a Strat and am thinking of getting a Hollow Body as well for those bigger songs. Should I? Any chance you guys could do a video on the different guitar shapes and their difference with sound and when you would use them.
I had a strat as well, and I actually just recently got a Dusenberg TV Phonic (similar to what he's playing in the video). Honestly my tone has improved dramatically. Just depends on what you want. A hollow body is going to make your tone much warmer and not nearly as spanky as a strat. I LOVE it for worship music. It's all personal preference though
yes because anthemic chord voicings is more holy and righteous than shredding. shredding will only send you to hell. sounding like U2 will definitely get you into heaven.
Shredding has its place and would sound great under right circumstances. I play in both worship and hardcore bands, and I almost see all worship guitarist too lazy to learn advanced techniques by relying on their expensive gear, as well as non worship guitarist thinking it’s stupid to play simple and easy stuff that don’t somehow show off all their skills. How to be a great guitarist? Never be limited in one genre or community and always practice.
Nice. I come from a rock a roll background so it's been really nice learning how to play worship style even know that's not my favorite but it is very useful.
Great video guys! Bradford, I’d love to see a separate video on alternate chord voicings. I still tend to use similar chord structures for electric as I do for acoustic.
this really helped me confirm that i am on the right path of playing guitar for Jesus. i just cant believe that i am doing what you have said without me researching it. i learned it from listening and feeling.
There are a few components to finding top worship guitar courses. One plan I discovered which successfully combines these is the Worship fixer formula (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the best plan i've heard of. look at the awesome info .
This has been a big help for me, thk u, it seem ive been on the right track to what you have been saying, but im told very different in my fellowship that i only need to play cowboy chords, and nothing else, i feel this limits me and the music being played.
The only thing I haven't done, without searching out the tab/music notation, is playing single note lead lines. The rest I've been doing. Yup, having two guitars playing the same rhythm parts just creates muddy noise, which takes away from the lyrics and melody. I really like to sit out from playing lead guitar on the 1st verse. On the 1st chorus, I usually play long sustained mid volume chords until the lead hook/turn around starts to bring the congregation to the 2nd verse. 2nd verse I either play Triads & short runs at the end of lyric lines, or on the 2nd verse I play a mix of Triads, single notes with in chords from a different octave voicing. The 2nd chorus is where I add more energy and am switching between bar & jazz chords higher up the neck, Triads and improvised lead runs to either the lead hook, or depending how the song is written to where the band jumps to the bridge at which time, I sit out for at least the 1st bridge. Then I come back in starting at a low volume with sustained barred chords or lower triads constantly adding more volume until we get to the double chorus, where we either go full volume to the end or start at full volume and then gradually taper off in volume until we finish acapella/vocals only. Oh and I sing too but not when I am busy doing more than chords or triads. It was over a decade since I was only playing rhythm guitar when playing guitar. I came back to guitar a year & a half ago, after picking up the ukulele 5 years ago & then the solid body electric ukulele, where I learned most of my fret notes & on which I started to play a little bit of lead hooks. Then when I came back to guitar, I only needed to memorize the low guitar A string fret notes to play lead electric guitar. My first musical instrument which I still own & play today is my Mollenhauer pear recorder. But my melodic lead playing comes from playing flute from grad 7 until the present.

Siméon Bidois something I definitely have to work on
That's a good one!!
Your job is not to make the sky come down to earth, but to point to the one who did. Other than that I fully agree :)
Amen do it all the time at my church it kind of changes the atmosphere and let’s ya flow in the gods spirt
Well said man...
The not playing piece is 100% spot on. Also the 'save the chords' is the best advise

I'm 16 and I have been playing electric at my church and this video is super helpful! Tone is fantastic!
Thanks! Yes - Bradford's tone is awesome.
all guitarists should sound like The Edge from U2 because it is widely known that ambient anthemic rock is more holy than grunge or country etc.
That tone costs about 4,000 dollars lol
Those who want Bradford to show us his Gear (kemper + pedalboard) please raise your hands ✋🏼✋🏼✋🏼
I raise my 🤚🏽
Came here to say that 😂😂
We will do this :)
I found your video on Worship fixer formula - there plenty more a useful videos there that will help you

Darn it, now I can’t see anything else. Thank you.

great video, i'm the lead electric player at my church and all that you are saying is so true, great job, killer song btw, never heard until now
Summed up: dynamics , dynamics, dynamics! Play to the song!
This applies to everyone learning to play in bands of practically any genre. Good info, Bradford.
This is a beautiful ministry y'all are doing. Teaching and such. May many blessings continue to fall on you!
Thanks brother.... this vid in particular truly helped me take a step back to embrace the simplicity in the beauty of enjoying and taking my guitar playing to the next level! From Life Gate/ Paramount CA.... Cheers and blessings my brother in Christ!

Single note line reminds me of Hearts Explode by the darkness, and that's a very good thing!
I don't waste my time and comment on videos a lot but this video really helped me realize my overplaying.
Great pointers guys...Thank you🙂👍🏽

Awesome video!
Thanks so much! God bless!
Well, if that wasn't blessedly amazing!
Truly a great tutorial. A bit funny he strums like an acoustic player at the end tho. I had a little chuckle. Thanks for the vid!
great!! can you explain the effects that you use in there?
can someone please post a link of that song (@ 6:27) I can't really find it anywhere online
Sounds good. I might throw in swells during the verse to add some color too.

Thank you for all the tips ! Love the sound of your guitar! Do you use individual pedals or a guitar processor? In that case which one? Thanks
