Linear rooms give you one puzzle, which once solved, provides another, the another…. You usually only have one puzzle to work on at a time and once you solve the puzzle, you will gain access to another. Advantages: everyone in the group sees every puzzle and works together. The flow of the room is usually easier to follow and therefore good fit smaller groups or those new to the hobby. This is how most older games were set up. Disadvantage: if you’re playing in a larger group, there may be a lot of people standing around with nothing to do. In contrast, non-linear rooms may have many puzzles available at any given time so people/groups can split up and work on different puzzles/tasks.
Glad to see more places that allow only 3 people. I don’t like going with a large group or with strangers.
what does linear mean?
