Disney aims for a visual language, making good seem appealing, and being evil not so much. Anime kind of feeds the preference of a ''bad boy/girl'', which is basically a mentality of most people today. Everyone wants to appear as bad, sarcastic and sexy.
My fav disney villain is Yzma from the emperor's new groove because 1. She turned into a funny cat 2. She has the funniest sidekick 3. She has the most hilairious design So, its actually because shes funny

First time too. I would never redraw (/ trace over) some of the drawings you did. With hair, I just do the bottom and the top and probably fill in the middle witha few curves and lines but what you do takes skill. Also, if you haven't already, could you do Evil Versions Disney Good Guys?

I agree Vernon. The thing that made Mother Gothel look cruel was her smile and the way her eyebrows were done. I didn't think she needed to change everything, just mainly change her smile and eyebrows. If you soften and curve the eyebrows and take away the cruel smile and instead give her a kind smile, she looks like a kind woman.

If you watch Monsters University, the reason Randall squints is because he needs glasses but Mike told him he looks more intimidating without them. In Monsters U, Randall starts nice but becomes very competitive. I feel like his competitiveness gets the best of him in between Monsters U and Monsters Inc. He becomes so competitive he forgets where the moral line is.
Mother Gothal could have lived if she would have just taken Repunzel out for a while, there is plenty of areas where she could have shown her the lanterns without letting her get too close to other people, or avoided people as a whole... (like wherever she was hiding when she staged the attack to get her away from Flynn) could have watched the lights from there and still kept her beliving that people were dangerous. Could have even told her the story of the missing princess being the reason for the lanterns and used that to emphasize that if someone out there would steal an innocent baby the world outside of the tower is just too cruel. And without her going into town and seeing the image of the royal family she'd still hang on mother's words without reason to think that she is the princess. And Repunzel would have continued her life same as normal in ignorant bliss. If Gothal was smarter, after that she'd figure that she can't keep Repunzel cooped up forever, she's bound to be curious about the outside world again. She should then make plans to move somewhere far from the kingdom, perhaps claim that she'd found a society that she seems safe, and gradually integrate Repunzel into a more normal life. Repunzel loves her "mother" and knows she depends on her hair so even if she decides to branch out on her own she won't go far. She could meet a boy, start a family of her own and would still welcome mother Gothal as any other kid welcomes their parent, and still have a healthy family relationship while Repunzel is none the wiser and neither is anyone else. Everyone lives happily ever after... besides the king and queen who never found their daughter and probably deep down assume she's dead.

Maybe its me but the legs just never seem long enough. So your characters are always awkwardly short. BUT, with that in mind you are amazing at drawing and very good at reimagineing iconic people! Keep up the good work!

First of all, Disney as well as other companies have portrayed both ugly, attractive, non white, AND white characters as evil, with various mixtures of all those things. Take Gaston and that prince from Frozen, for example, both attractive white guys, which would probably be the good guys in a lot of other stories. If you use the logic that you just used, Disney was trying to teach us buff white guys are evil, egotistical maniacs! We basically wouldn't be able to make ANY bad human characters anymore with that logic because there would always be someone saying "They're trying to portray X as evil!"

The good ones are young, attractive and colorful dressed, while the evil ones are old, ugly and wear dark clothes. It's not because of ONE character, it's obviously because they do it very often.
Cat196 And so what? Throughout all of history certain characteristics have been associated with shadiness or poor character, in this instance it all comes down to art choice. The people who make these movies aren't trying to send some hidden message with their characters, they set out to design X evil character that matches Y theme and that's what they come up with. What do you want them to do? Make half of their evil characters cute, bubbly attractive girls or suave well-groomed business men? That makes no sense. The evil characters they made look dark, they look forboding, they look sharp, and their designs just work with the characters they are. And that's the thing, these characters are not JUST their looks, they have personality, they have, you know, CHARACTER. They provide you with a sense that "huh, maybe there's a reason this character is this way" even if it isn't explained to you.
These are all pretty cool...but one Villain I would really like to see changed into a bad guy is Shan Yu. He just has such a look that screams "I'm evil! Don't mess with me!" I think it would be a challenge to try and make him look good...especially if you don't change his creepy eye color too much.

I agree Vernon. The thing that made Mother Gothel look cruel was her smile and the way her eyebrows were done. I didn't think she needed to change everything, just mainly change her smile and eyebrows. If you soften and curve the eyebrows and take away the cruel smile and instead give her a kind smile, she looks like a kind woman.

If you watch Monsters University, the reason Randall squints is because he needs glasses but Mike told him he looks more intimidating without them. In Monsters U, Randall starts nice but becomes very competitive. I feel like his competitiveness gets the best of him in between Monsters U and Monsters Inc. He becomes so competitive he forgets where the moral line is.

Mother Gothal could have lived if she would have just taken Repunzel out for a while, there is plenty of areas where she could have shown her the lanterns without letting her get too close to other people, or avoided people as a whole... (like wherever she was hiding when she staged the attack to get her away from Flynn) could have watched the lights from there and still kept her beliving that people were dangerous. Could have even told her the story of the missing princess being the reason for the lanterns and used that to emphasize that if someone out there would steal an innocent baby the world outside of the tower is just too cruel. And without her going into town and seeing the image of the royal family she'd still hang on mother's words without reason to think that she is the princess. And Repunzel would have continued her life same as normal in ignorant bliss.
If Gothal was smarter, after that she'd figure that she can't keep Repunzel cooped up forever, she's bound to be curious about the outside world again.
She should then make plans to move somewhere far from the kingdom, perhaps claim that she'd found a society that she seems safe, and gradually integrate Repunzel into a more normal life. Repunzel loves her "mother" and knows she depends on her hair so even if she decides to branch out on her own she won't go far. She could meet a boy, start a family of her own and would still welcome mother Gothal as any other kid welcomes their parent, and still have a healthy family relationship while Repunzel is none the wiser and neither is anyone else. Everyone lives happily ever after... besides the king and queen who never found their daughter and probably deep down assume she's dead.

Ugh, I hate this logic "They portrayed an evil character with X feature! They're trying to teach us that's evil!"
First of all, Disney as well as other companies have portrayed both ugly, attractive, non white, AND white characters as evil, with various mixtures of all those things. Take Gaston and that prince from Frozen, for example, both attractive white guys, which would probably be the good guys in a lot of other stories. If you use the logic that you just used, Disney was trying to teach us buff white guys are evil, egotistical maniacs! We basically wouldn't be able to make ANY bad human characters anymore with that logic because there would always be someone saying "They're trying to portray X as evil!"

No, of course they don't portray every single character like that but in the vast majority of all princess movies they did. The good ones are young, attractive and colorful dressed, while the evil ones are old, ugly and wear dark clothes. It's not because of ONE character, it's obviously because they do it very often.

And so what? Throughout all of history certain characteristics have been associated with shadiness or poor character, in this instance it all comes down to art choice. The people who make these movies aren't trying to send some hidden message with their characters, they set out to design X evil character that matches Y theme and that's what they come up with. What do you want them to do? Make half of their evil characters cute, bubbly attractive girls or suave well-groomed business men? That makes no sense. The evil characters they made look dark, they look forboding, they look sharp, and their designs just work with the characters they are. And that's the thing, these characters are not JUST their looks, they have personality, they have, you know, CHARACTER. They provide you with a sense that "huh, maybe there's a reason this character is this way" even if it isn't explained to you.
My fave Disney villain is Mother Gothel just because of her song Mother Knows Best.

These are all pretty cool...but one Villain I would really like to see changed into a bad guy is Shan Yu. He just has such a look that screams "I'm evil! Don't mess with me!" I think it would be a challenge to try and make him look good...especially if you don't change his creepy eye color too much.
