    So many usable and inspiring sounds! Even for todays standards :)

    Oh I love this. Everyone seems to have gone for the typical percussion sounds but I'm loving hearing the weirder stuff, that's what I'm all about.

    • @Schlagageul
      @Schlagageul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same, I am a sucker for weird sounds. I was afraid at first that the Wavedrum would be a more conventional machine, I felt that would be a waste of potential. I am glad that it has sounds like these.

    If you turn it way up and play with your fingers there are many more sounds per preset than if you pummel it with sticks.

  • @daroanvimusen
    @daroanvimusen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    the snare on 14:28 !! yeah . The Wavedrum has ( not all) very good sounds and the most important: forces you to explore and develop your sense of rhythm, much more than a "perfect" drum machine

    Very hard to turn off when playing
    Takes me into a trance i love it

    I freakn love that thing! Was almost about to get the Roland, but totally changed my mind after seeing this baby in action, and... it's half the price of the Roland!!!

    • @littlestonliest1186
      @littlestonliest1186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      REDMANNATION The Roland is 3 times as good for only twice the price. KORG has many issues with the sensitivity and loudness of these units. I own this model and the previous and was hoping the newest version would have corrected the problems. The Wavedrum is also much more complicated to program. The fact that KORG has no midi out is is a deal breaker. With a Roland Handsonic, you can play any other of your instruments except the newer Wavedrums. This increases your sounds by thousands. If KORG would just reproduce their original, I would buy another. After all, many of these sounds are found there. The original Mandala drums are the best.

    Thanks for the great demo of some of the more creative sounds, which is what I would want from this. It seems the timp mallets are ideal for this with nice stick control but less acoustic clicking. Are you using medium or soft?

    Thanks for the demo - excellent - I (think) I notice you are a left-handed drummer!! (and me) - now considering this drum..... Cheers Pete :-)

    many thanks for this video! as the sounds were so mesmerising, my tea has got cold! wondering how loud the thing is without the sounds, as i live in a flat with those things called neighbours? especially as the outer rim is, i believe metal? (probably ok with timp sticks).

    Is there nowdays anything like this made with better connections(like MIDI or just line connections) available from Korg or any other companies that could be this enjoyable to use with that many options to ADD to your actual songs?...and this was if I remember correctly already 10years old model...so whst kind of prices are we talking about NOW(August 2023)if I find a sealed,"new" one of this only,I know that little mini model from this,but tjat can't be compared to this one over here at all.....and I'm not going to buy full electric drumkit or any stupid drum machine.Or should I just continue with so-called natural hand-drumming tools/drums that I already have from Remo and record soumfs from tjose to my tracks witj decent mics???

  • @junglsmor
    @junglsmor 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    that last sound is crazy. im tryin to isolate each sound like which is sample and which is synth but i cant tell

    I really appreciate your demo, especially the fact that you're a percussionist and thorough. I love the delay (echo) on some.
    Was that a separate delay setting that you can use on *any* instrument on the wavedrum, or was it a delay that is built into specific instruments? I assume it's not a delay pedal you've connected, right?

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Larson Thanks, and the delay is part of that particular preset, and there are no added FX on this demo, everything you here are presets from the Wavedrum, I think it has storage for more than 200 user patches where you can apply any of the built in FX to any sound, it is a pain to program though, but I do love it.
      Another couple of things, there is no midi or record function built in, I think Korg were aiming this at percussionists and drummers

      @brianlarson1705 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      thesoundtestroom thanks for the info! I've been trying to decide whether to get this. I like the exotic instruments. I wished it could record, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

      This beast is on a category of it's own. Best dynamic percussive synth money can buy. Every time I play it, new sound textures get discovered.

    Hello thank your for the video!
    I think this is the first video that really presents the "percussion synthesiser" side of the drum.
    Have you met stick type that is not really suitable to this drum, or does not make difference compared to other?

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can hit the Wavedrum with any stick type, or even brushes and your hands

    This isntrument is fantastic. But the one I've got distorts the sound on big hits on some patches like the tabla bass. That's strange.

  • @danabe8888

    can i use a regular drum stick? what I'm thinking is to mount this as an accessory to my drumset, as a replacement to roto toms, congas' etc when playing latin music..

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can hit it with any type of stick you like, as hard as you like. It uses a standard 10 inch drum skin, so if you wanted to change the skin it comes with to your choice of skin, its the same as swapping your other ones, you even adjust the tension just as normal

    Not much has changed since the original 'New Wavedrum' including the absence of Midi. Both Handsonic and Mandala have Midi implementation. The Mandala is especially great and better yet if you have the original red one.

    • @iam-music
      @iam-music 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thank you, I didnt know Mandala existed...not the same as its pretty stick oriented...Im mostly hand perc but wow...appreciate it

    • @rajasarapi8082
      @rajasarapi8082 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mandala is great (if you can find one), but requires a computer or sound (synth/sampler) module. Wavedrum is the best choice for hand drumming options. I don't see myself hitting Mandalas with my hands.

    • @PeterGarofalo
      @PeterGarofalo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the thing about the wave drum is that it captures your performance with the mike sensors , which change the sounds as you play , it would be impossible to make this work in Midi , because its not what midi does . which is why it is so different to hand sonic .

  • @annother3350
    @annother3350 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah, they shouold have made it with midi

    • @PeterGarofalo
      @PeterGarofalo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      imposible , because the mike sensors pick up the acoustic sounds of hands or sticks & would be really hard to transfer that into midi . the way you play , press the skin or hit the rims alters the sounds .
