- This is a video explaining the modification done to the front axle (Dana 30). If your vacuum actuator has failed or you simply don't trust it, this mod is for you.
Jeep is a 91 YJ 2.5L, 5 speed
Any questions feel free to email me at farmall230@gmail.com
Thanks for watching, enjoy! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The reason to do this and not the xj shaft swap, is that if your front driveshaft is unbalanced you will end up with more issues because it will be constantly spinning. not to mention extra wear on all parts from ujoints to pinion bearing and seal, and case parts. I will be doing this, great job OP!!
ive been looking into websites and doing a lot of research and this is solid! thanknyou now my 89 yj will have 4x4
Great Idea. Its seems like the colored vacuum lines on ours were super brittle. Cracked very easy.
Just got a 95 YJ. Will be doing this setup. Thanks.
Hey buddy i found it, its about $25-$30+shipping. and plus the nuts and bolts and to have someone weld it, i figure under $50. a posilock cost about $200, so again great job and thanx for the idea im going to do the same for my jeep.
i was thinking i was the only one who thaught this would work. looks like you did a good job. I am a welder/fabricator by trade, so i think i will do this to my truck. Thanks for the video.happy wheelin. PS my last truck i built a manual airlocker and worked awsome, but the air switch and can was $300. this seems way cheeper.
professional grade dude!
Great job! I'll be doing mine like that.
that looks perfect
Hey thanks yea i just put the same thing in to my jeep and it works like a champ
@xlineback55 It works flawlessly! I tested it a fair bit and it takes very little effort to move the cable. it's actually harder to move the HVAC levers then it is to move the 4X4 cable lol.
(ps. this is my video, I just have a new youtube account)
I put a spring in there to keep it engaged all the time. It works perfectly. No ill effects and it only cost a few bucks.
EXCELLENT ..Much better than Drilling the holes in the case. You're Set Up is Near Perfect & Foolproof, thanks so much for posting. I have to do this for my Comanche and have one question, Do you simply Plug the old Vacume lines? You didn't mention them at all. Thanks again, Super Job & Very Good Presentation. DanO'
Excellent Video and Your set up is Great, One question Please... when you pull the cable to engage, does it always engage smoothly or do you have to move the vehicle slightly while pulling for the spline to line up and engage? Thanks , DanO'
I ended up mounting the it just to the outside of my driver so it was out of the way i drilled a hole in the firewall almost right behind the e-brake and ran it right againt the body and the floor the lever is just infront of the seat folding lever have skinnier arms so it was no problem reaching between the door and the seat while riding. I wanted to mount it to the dash but i was afraid of hitting it with my knee or with my shifter because i have a 5 speed.
Good deal the cable is for Manual cruise control for older semi trucks call A T handle
@xlineback55 Awesome! glad to hear! Where did you end up mounting your cable handle in the cab? I was going to bring mine up through the floor but ended up making a small bracket out of angle iron and mounting it to the bottom of the dash. If you make a video send me the link. Thanks
I made my own cable operated diconect.i installed a Spartan locker. Then got bvb the bright idea to I stall a one piece axle.now feels locked up. Tires squeal when tuning...I'm getting ready bvb to go back to my split axle.
Dan
I like everything about your front axle modification except one thing. Now when I move my throttle cable (lock the front axle) the light on the dash comes on and tells me I'm in 4 wheel drive - even though the transfer case is still in 2 wheel drive. I would like to somehow include the transfer case in series with the CAD so that both would need to be in 4 wheel drive before the dash light comes on. Any good ideas?
Part # for cable at NAPA is 731-1104
I've been thinking about doing this to my mj does it lock the axle to a posi track or just let it lock in my vacuum lines are shot so i can't get reliable 4x4
Take an axle shaft from a cherokee and put it in that side. Add the axle seal for cherokee (same dana 30) and your good to go. throw away the stock disconnect. Spline i believe in 27
Great job. How much was the cable and where did you get it? thanx
Hi! Great work there! I would like to make one myself but i'm having a hard time to find a cable like that. Do you remember where you found it? I live in Sweden so a onlineshop would be great! :) so far I have only found cables without locking in Sweden. Please help! :)
what type of weld machine did you use MIG or STICK? all i have is an arch welder, would that be ok? dont want to blow through it.
the problem with this setup is that shaft that you took the vacuum chamber off of has seals inside. Im not talking about the seals that are inside the vacuum chamber (not called an actuator, the actuator is the housing that bolts on the axle and the actuator fork is inside the actuator housing), im talking about the seals that are in the hexagonal nut that you ground the vacuum chamber off of. Now those seals are much more exposed to the elements and what not and you will get water & crud coming in through those seals between the actuator shaft and the seals in the hex nut and into your axle/diff in no time. Should have gone the other way of drilling the actuator housing. Im pretty sure the actuator housing is aluminum not cast iron? Could be wrong.
Ok, looks like this video is more than 7 years old. Have you installed this on your Jeep? How did it work? Is it still working? Anyone else try this?
very good, I live in Venezuela and I got only the cable but this is not fixed bone does not block, if I get your bearings where I can get it, an online store Ideally, thank you, please send information to my mail
So is this working in your jeep now? because i have the same issue started looking around and this looks like one of the better decisions for me
do you need manuel locking hubs if you use this method?
Where did you buy the cable from
Were did you buy the cable?
how long is the cable
After 12 years have you had any problems, just got an 89 and looking to do this
I have this system in the jeep I just brought does it matter if I engage the this or the transfer case shifter first ?? Thanks
no
anyone know where to get the cable with the handle ?
TheChesillo22 NAPA auto parts
@@papagallo5379 part number?
Part #: BK 7311104
they make a kit for this called posi lock
RICHARD Speakman its also $160 which not everyone has.
I like the throttle cable lot cheaper
Why not just grab the passenger side axle with same spline out of a newer jeep with dana 30 front and put that in instead of the posilock cable? all that's left is getting the right axle seal for that side.
Just swap a one piece xj axle and your golden
no
A lot harder than it looks ,,I failed and went ahead and bought it off of 4wheelparts.com
