    Jordan, Great video explaining how easy this protractor is to use and how accurate it can be. Well worth the $20+ and it is so compact for storage. Works simply with the T-bevel you likely already have. Your instructions on applying latex caulking to all joints and surfaces before installing the molding to ceiling and wall was so helpful to successful completing our room. When installing long pieces it is like a 3rd hand holding the molding in place while you position and nail. Super suggestion and a great help to ensure the piece is permanently held in place.

    Nice video. I agree I pays of to measure corners beforehand. Just like to add that in my experience there's no need for a nail gun if using an appropriate glue. Although i use type of quick glue for the corners, wich means they stay in place, if the corner glue is slow acting ther is possibility of them moving out of place.

    Nail hole tip ; use drywall putty, you can sand it lightly or wet cloth when it’s close to dry. I find caulking doesn’t fill that great, but that’s just me.

  • @billzima7068

    Need a cushion on that gun. I would highly recommend not caulking nail holes. Use a filler that wont shrink. I use a product i think from DAP but we push it in really good then just little on the heavy side. The filler is super lightweight and can really be sanded by hand. But we just run around tje room with a sanding sponge..it only takes a few minutes and it smooths out any of the crap primer job, the over fill of filler we applied and makes splices and outside corners flawless. Also dead end returns we use CA glue and put it together on the bench b4 it goes up. Blocking,splices and outside corners use wood glue!! Inside corner we cope and then apply a small bead of caulking with adhesion b4 fitting together. Keep everything clean as you go. I like having a wet sponge with me but only to keep my finger clean and moist to slick over the caulking. Crown molding is one of them things where it can be tough in the beginning but when that lightbulb goes off in your head and you totally understand it ..it then becomes as easy as installing baseboards. Very nice angle finder..with that and a bevel gauge you are guaranteed a beautiful outcome. Happy building all!!:)

    I am stuck on one thing, when you show the tutorial at 5:14 you do not say how to cut the first piece you show in the tutorial. So basically the piece that you put that small little piece on. I do not know how to cut that piece so that the little piece fits perfect. Some help and clarification would be very helpful

      Sorry Jose, in the editing it was decided not to create a long video.
      So I couldn't show every detail. Go to sawset.ca Videos and Tips. Look under Template and the piece you are referring to is the 5th picture.

    Hello,
    Love the video. About to start a crown moulding install. The previous owner didn’t want to finish the crown, and stopped with a flush cut on an inside corner 3:10 3:10 . I understand it’s best to use a coping saw, but how do I cut the moulding and get it to matchup? Thank you

    • @SawsetTools
      @SawsetTools  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know the traditional way is to cope, but mitering is the best way, because the 2 moldings lock each other in place. If the existing crown is not glued down, I would remove it and miter. Mitered corners are also crisper.

    Hey great video thanks for taking the time too teach us all how too do this . Question what size nails are you hitting that crown molding with ? Also what type of glue are you using ? Thx

    • @thetoolman3355
      @thetoolman3355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 in. 18 ga. Brad nails, trying to hit the studs when I can.
      We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
      But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.

    i got trim on in one corner and cut all the pieces and then the other three corners didn't fit so i will get this gadge to measure lesson learn don't assume all corners are the same thank you yeah cutting on a miter box i had to fight to hold it in a angle

    • @thetoolman3355
      @thetoolman3355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you, cutting with a miter box is hard.
      Jordan addresses in the video, positioning the molding is important .
      To high on the wall will gaps on the bottom.
      To low on the wall will gaps on the top.
      You need to find that middle spot.

      Cicrular saws are limited.. You can only cut 7-10cm in heights, so when you come upon cornice mouldings that are bigger it is useless. There are hand saw kit for bigger mouldings. Simple ones for - 45 90 +45 degrees and also adjustable ones... For small or flat ones circular saw is much faster though...
