Great tips, Dane. I recently passed my test and found your videos a wonderful help. So thanks! The other thing is that a friend of mine said you only really learn to drive once you pass your test and she is so right. I have had to go on motorways, change on and off motorways (stressful!), park in general and in multi story car parks, and go to places I have never been. It's a lot and I find going to the outskirts of Dublin to be the most stressful as it's not just one motorway, but a series of changing on and off different motorways. I also don't know how to parallel park. :)
That's true, the learning never stops, hoping to do a video on parallel parking soon.
Its not all about the test, glad u mentioned..driving is a continuing learning process

Can I ask you, are you allowed to stop in third and fourth gear? (for example at a red traffic light). Or should you try to stop in second gear? Thanks again.
It's better to stop in 2nd because you're more likely to be able to take advantage of the green light. It's fine if you stop in 3rd or 4th as long as you don't let the car struggle.

How in this case cars coming from the front had right of way? Since there are parked cars to the right, doesn't she have the right of way?

I have my test this Tuesday and i'm panicking that i'm going to panic and stumble on something silly.. : | Anxiety will be maxed out! Thank you for your videos they've helped me a lot, alongside my instructor - 1 pre-cheek test then it's Big test time after it :) I hope i pass, fingers crossed ! - Keep up the great content!

Feel like this is a stupid question but would you not have the right of way on that street if the parked cars are on the oncoming cars side?
Yes technically I would have the right of way if parked cars are on the other side. But that's not the point here, this girl made a mistake by rushing to clear the bottleneck instead of slowing down and driving in a way that reflected the narrow road conditions. And also just because you have the right of way doesn't mean you'll get it all the time and that's where you need to react and plan.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive ah I see, thanks dane. I'm a bit like this girl, I panic when the road narrows and oncoming cars approach, I have a habit of speeding up to get past so really working on getting rid of it. Test booked for Monday so hoping all goes well
Yes I know what you mean but you must refrain from knee jerk reactions like that. Sometimes just slowing down and dropping a gear can help you relax and able to judge it better. Often it's better to let a situation develop instead of rushing it. I hope to upload a Similar video tomorrow.
Would your learner not of had right of way Dane? There parked cars on side of road, in which they cars were coming down.
Technically she would have but if the other cars are not aware of that or they are committed to finishing their overtaking, then that is not the most important thing. The issue here was not right of way but a failure to read ahead and plan ahead. Just because you have right of way doesn't necessarily mean you will get it all the time.

@@DaneTygheletsdrive thank you. I struggle with moving off from traffic lights or 3/4 way stop. I do it carefully because I'm always nervous that I'll get off the clutch to quick which jerks that car. Please advice how I can do it faster without stalling

Slow down gradually for the roundabouts and allow yourself time to take account of the exits, best of luck with the driving test.
How did you do?
I think this is the most valuable lesson you have given so far. I had a situation in a lesson recently which I felt wasnt my fault but after watching this video I see that it was my lack of awareness that got me into the situation in the first place. Thanks Dane for these invaluable videos.

Handbrake up, wait in D, foot ready over the acceleration. That way the car is safe and you are ready to go. Best wishes.
