- Having spent the last few months on the road I am taking a short pit stop at home in Los Angeles. My best friend puppy companion Charley needs a routine medical procedure and after her short recovery we will be back on the road VERY SOON! This video is one of my favorites so far. It turned out to be an incredible day driving through the Sheep Hole Wilderness, and the Mojave Desert on my way home to LA. If you are interested in learning more about the places in this video there is plenty on information online. I don't intend to make these travel logs informative as much as they are simple photographic journeys. So rather than rambling off facts and stats that I (or anyone) could look up on Wikipedia, I will let the pictures tell the story. I will say that the homesteads outside of 29 Palms were quite stark. But something about the crumbling ruins of these old buildings is quite beautiful. I hope you are enjoying my photography and video that I am creating. I already have plans for my next location and will be back on the road filming new videos very soon. While I am taking a short break now to attend to Charley's medical needs I am also making much needed adjustments to the van in many areas that will make it easier for me to live and work on the road. New things being added to the recording studio and also some new cooking ideas that will make it easier to prepare food and survive off the grid. Stay tuned the adventure continues very soon. Love the conversation between you and your mom, Tom. She wants you to play upbeat music to lift up your viewers' spirit (such a mom way of looking at the world! It's how we are. LOL), but you don't want to because you don't want to "hurt" viewers who are having a hard time by making it appear as if everything is hunky dory. Love that, Tom! My son (he's 26) when he was a little one asked me one day why everyone on the television (on shows and in the commercials) were always smiling and so happy. It bothered him so much! He knew that he didn't smile all the time and he couldn't understand why people were acting crazily happy over a tube of toothpaste. LOL I had to explain to him that what is seen on tv isn't real life and to not let it make him feel down or think that his life isn't going well. He's still a very insightful "kid"!!!

I found Tom's new stuff after listening to him on Rogan a while back. He's living the true American dream! Tom seems happy, free, and fascinated by everything by almost everything he comes across. It's great. Thanks for sharing Tom. I love the ambience of the music too -- it kind of reminds me of the opening scene of The Shining where they're driving out to the Overlook hotel.
I'm loving what you are doing Tom. I read travels with Charley back in the 60's and fully understand how you got the wanderlust bug. Recently, I went down the TH-cam rabbit hole exploring Slab City and the Salton Sea area. Hope you get to stop by and explore that scene. Merry Christmas to you and Charley.

Every American should take a road trip or even an Amtrak trip across the country. Preferably when young. May alter your perspective of who the United States of America is.
I worked with this old farmer/ machinist in Appalachia. He suffered a heart attack close to retirement and survived. He bought an RV and was going to drive across the country, and that he did. I ran into him about a year later. He was looking nervous and his eyes were wide open. I asked him about his cross country road trip. I can't remember what he said, but he seemed overwhelmed. His body language and expression exuded the statement... "I never knew".

(Instead if while in motion) I’ve been through that part of California and recognized one of the gas stations from about 12 years ago, and remember they would not let me get free ice and they had no tap water to share. It was 110 degrees that day, and I had to drive 25 miles further to get some free water. I had no cash and they were dicks. Good to see they went out of business!

Sheep Hole could be my favorite place on the planet. The expansive openness and flatness of it with these formations that just seem to rise out of nowhere from the flatness. It's very martian but also extremely peaceful and soothing at the same time. @6:50 is a great example. I typically camp there once a year but my travels, like many others this year, have been put on hold. I'll return again. Thank you for bringing me back there for this year, Tom. Much love.
