Amazing stuff! I got rid of my shoulder rest a few weeks ago after getting a higher chinrest (Kreddle). It took me a couple of weeks to adjust the chinrest properly for me but it was worth the effort/patience/frustration. Everything Mr Kalinovsky says makes great sense to me... and it's a great reminder of what I need to be doing and what I should be keeping an eye out for. So, thank you both for the education!

    Excellent interview. Marvellous content.
Lovely approach by the young interviewer. (Shoukd you consider calling him 'Professor' rather than 'Mr....I would love to hear the interviewer say 'Thank you' at the end of each comprehensive answer by Prof. Kalinofsky rather than just 'yes...').
Delighted to have found this video, tho.
Best regardd to all. G Ire

Baroque violinists tend to use cheesecloth to add friction for playing without a shoulder rest, but I never see modern violinists use it.

I did a little experiment listening to the sound quality of an instrument with a Bon Musica shoulder rest vs a thin pad on the back. The sound was clearly better with the bon musica because the player's shoulder wasn't pressing against the back of the instrument. My BM doesn't put the instrument up, but it does support the instrument at the correct angle without the edge digging painfully into my collar bone. And I get a better sound than if there was just a pad on the back.
