I moved to the UK in the 1990s. I have always worked extremely hard to pay my fees to learn English and to go the university. I will always be grateful to the British government and the people who embrace me as one of them. I am still working around, today I am a senior lecturer in some prestigious universities, paying high tax monthly. HOWEVER, I can’t agree more with your thoughts and opinions. Unfortunately, I am seeing a huge change for worst in the last few years. And I am now preparing to an early retirement abroad. Obviously, I will continue paying tax in the uk from my regiment and I see this as a good justice for what the UK offered me for around 30 years. However, my future isn’t in the UK anymore. Time to move to a place where I can have a more descent living in my world days. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for reading my comment.

Sir, If you want to repay the people of the UK please DO NOT do it through the UK tax system - use other ways. These UK Govt ****s are sending billions to Isitreal & Ukraine whilst treating the local population like ****. The British Govt let you in as it was in their interest to do so as they are letting the 'undocumenteds' in now (to cause the chaos that will make people DEMAND the Digital IDs:
Yes, UK Govt want unrest so they can push through more controls and rules - Digital IDs are a pre-requiste for programmable carbon credit linked CBDCs. Blair tried but couldn't push Digital IDs through - 'Covif' passes were the most recent attempt that didn't quite work. Guess they figured they need to create chaos with 'undocumenteds' then the public will demand digital IDs... then come CBDCs with rules galore on your spending (on what, where, when etc)
      Fk the govt!

Oh they'll put up with it alright - no other choice.
UK is basically bust. Why are Brits paid more money than Thais??????????? No proper reason really.
Govt will have to bring in UBI and programmable CBDC + personal carbon credits which will dictate on what and where you can spend 'your' money - 15 minute cities too. No more trips back home for Les.
The next generation have already been brainwashed on 'green' policies and how bad capitalism is so it'll probably be easy to push thru as they already are (electric cars & ULEZ (no not you Les)).
These. Are. The. Good Times. so enjoy them while you still can 👍
BTW, Thailand is already running a CBDC - after the next banking crisis the Thai Govt will make it the only option - and Thailand is VERY good at autocracy, official over reach and crackdowns etc. - looks like there's no escape but we live in hope.

I'm surprised that more people who are struggling in the UK aren't leaving to take advantage of less regulated societies in other countries. The cost of living in the UK has become a total rip-off because too much money goes to rich shareholders and foreigners who think they can have an easier life simply by emigrating.

Hi Les, you can't compare yourself moving to Thailand, to an illegal immigrant moving here. You are financially self sufficient and are not a drain on the Thai tax payer, yet an illegal gimmegrunt coming here gets free housing, food, smart phone etc....all at the expense of the British tax payer. They pay £5000+ to smugglers to get here. You could buy a plot of land with a house in Eastern Europe for that, but they won't get free handouts like in this soft country. They can live for free here. Do you think the Thai government would put you up in a 4* star hotel and 3 meals a day. Btw, winter fuel allowance is NOT being scrapped, it is being means tested, which I agree with. Why should somebody living in the Costa Del Sol get winter fuel allowance? There are so many things wrong with this country, and yes, the riots is putting gimmegrunts off from coming here now, actually, some are actually going back to France. I will make a prediction now, these riots will spread across Western Europe.

    • @RetiredandLivingthedream
      @RetiredandLivingthedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for your comment, the people arriving here in the UK are searching for a better life, I have no problem with that looking for a better life, the annoying thing about it is the free stuff they get and the huge cost to the tax payers. They enter illegally I'm lucky to live in Thailand but without income and means of living there I would not be allowed to live in Thailand, If I arrived illegally I would be deported or put in Jail That is the deterrent 4* Hotels and freebies is an attraction not a deterrent.
The Heating allowance I agree with what you say but there are some that would lose out and this would be me also, having a private pension I would not qualify for this even though some people receive benefits more than my income get the allowance,

I'm a prison officer in Australia, it amazes me how many prisoners eventually get sent to jail, they have already got over 20+ offenses, jail isn't a deterrent anymore, it's a joke and even to the point they bleat about their human rights, they couldn't care less about their victims. More and more people that are what's left of the middle class, here are also going to food banks, we are the most taxed, I paid $30,000 in income tax this year and when you add on all the other taxes. you are working for nothing, yet if I sat on my arse, I'd get given everything. I'm hoping that my wife will go back to Thailand at the end of the year and get a loan and we can build house and like you Les pay it off over the next couple of years, then I can semi retire or find a job teaching English in Thailand with my degree.

Who is to say that if England never allowed immigrants, would England be a better place today.
I think that’s an easy yes to say England would be better. Or maybe be smart like Thailand, and allow 100 foreigners to become naturalized citizens annually. This sounds better than giving out citizenship like chocolates.
I’m not gonna say what went wrong in the UK. But in the USA I have an idea on some of the things that went wrong.
In the old days the U.S. State Department would try to keep bad people out. However, the judges and lawyers got involved saying you can not discriminate and brought forth quotas for immigrants and favoritism. That was the beginning of the end and the perversion of U.S. immigration laws because people are not the same all over the world. And when you remove critical thinking from your country’s immigration policies, you’re left with mediocrity and suffering from average citizens.
In addition, the U.S. LUST for war created a different kind of immigration.
Before the war in Vietnam, almost no Vietnamese in America. After the war, today about 3 million. Before the war in El Salvador about 50,000 Salvadoran in the U.S. today about 3 million in the U.S. And it goes for all the other stupid war since.
Today America has 46 million foreign born immigrants. Plus an additional 10 million illegals.
Sorry to say the U.S. is too stupid to keep out undesirable people.
When I first heard Thai Immigration motto was good guys in, bad guys out, that’s proof Thais are smarter then Westerners.

There is hardly any illegal immigration. More than 80% of asylum seekers are genuine cases and are granted asylum. So your issues are not with the people that are coming here, it's the system. Immigration needs to be made tougher, agreed. But for a small minority to riot on the streets and spouting racist nonsense brings shame on this great country. The likes of Tommy what ever his name is and Farage and the ugly trollop of Hopkins needs arresting for inciting violence.
It's 14 years of tory rule which has created this divide and deprived our communities of much needed investment.

I keep getting told I don't have a say because I left the UK to live in another country in 1986. 😮😅
Then the Tory government gave my wife and me our UK vote back on January 16th 2024 so we could vote against it.
You couldn't make it up, could you? 😂🎉

Again people say I'm entitled to nothing in the UK as I have left, they still take my tax and give me nothing, they will Freeze my pension because they can. Mmmmm I paid into the system for many years already.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream My late father always said there would be no pension when I reached retirement. I listened to him, made other arrangements and ended up with a little pension in France, plus a bit of passive income.
At least your pension will already be taxed when you receive it in Thailand 👍👍.

Hi Liz I don’t think you’ve got anything in common with an illegal immigrant. I don’t think you check out £28,000 a year from Thailand and expect them to pay for your life working man pay for everything. Get nothing for free. I could be wrong, but I think Thailand is going the right way round look after your own.

You talk a lot about immigrants, but what about the millions of Brits living on welfare with no intention of ever doing a day's work? That's costing us tens of billions a year.
Plus, studies have shown that low and middle incomes don't pay much tax in the UK, only 28% (20% income tax plus 8% NI) all the way up to £50,000, compared to European countries. Meanwhile, people on high incomes, say £200-250k, pay similar amounts of tax compared to European countries. So if anything, it's the people on incomes up to £50,000 who should be paying more.
There is no something for nothing. It's not the state's (read taxpayers') responsibility to feed, clothe and house you. People must take responsibility for their lives and not sit back expecting it on a plate.

At the moment Immigrants are a HOT TOPIC. The benefits system I agree has been plundered by many for many years but they were British and Live here. Not the free lunch and give me a house as I arrived here ILLIGALLY brigade. There is a lot wrong with the UK at the moment. I agree everyone should be responsible for themselves.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream Here is the thing with Thailand. If you speak to the right person, then all the requirements go away. Agents can facilitate many things, and I will guarantee half of the expats would not be allowed to remain if all the rules were strictly enforced. Particularly on the financial side.
