Taught me so much in such little words, pause let it sink in, then play again. As Jimmie's brother Stevie Ray once said keep it simple, such down to earth guys, we all miss and love you Stevie.
I never get tired of this interview. Jimmie's playing is truly inspiring. His phrasing says so much about space and note choice and not overplaying.......just as he talks about. I think it takes years to get to that point. The older I get, the more I appreciate space in playing.
I love Jimmie Vaughan, one of the best roadhouse players ever to grace a stage, pure style, pure feeling. Economical playing doesn't mean you're limited, it means you have a pronounced sense of style. The Fabulous Thunderbirds took a great big chomp out of the 80's and made life fun again. I love the part about him describing being in a guitar pull with a room full of the greats wondering what he was gonna do when it was his turn.
Let the people feel it Jimmy Vaughan..You just keep playing what you play best and that's all that matters..Jimmy is a legend and a sensational guitar player..
i just learned more about blues in this 5 min seg w Jimmie I love the musicologists like Keith and Billy G Eric SRV They are the keepers of the blues flame. Thank u for posting this
I agree - this is priceless. Jimmie is a total original who manages to both display his influences and yet sound very unique. And I love his singing.....
I first seen Jimmie at Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette La. in the early or mid 70's and was hooked from then. Never missed any show he put on if I was anywhere near.
Excellent discussion. He has a lot of good knowledge. Musicians always borrow each others' licks when they are learning. That's not stealing, not hurtful. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
“I imagined myself in a room with these guys”…. And years later it was well beyond that sharing stages with various guitarists he mentioned. So humble and what a guitarist. Saw him with EC at MSG this week.
@scrumpymanjack I would just like to say that I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jimmie. It was in Austin and he was far from being a jerk. He took time to talk to me and my girlfrind, talk about his guitar that he was playing that night, and even talked about my home town and plus photos with him. JV's playing in Very original! That night, he performed 3 hours of jazz standards, all instrumental! That night of meeting this great guitarist changed my musical life forever! I
Jimmie is one of my favourite guitar players of modern times, along with Anson Funderburgh and Bobby Radcliff. I wish each one had a live concert DVD out.
In addition to being a legitimate artisan who belongs in the blues pantheon, this man is one of the most decent and unaffected people any of us will ever meet.
Jimmie is a bare bones player. No flash, no power chords, no speed over substance. Like Lynwood Slim on harp, Jimmie doesn't waste notes. I enjoy listening to his music and his interviews.
Took all the different influences and put them together. Stevie Ray took it and brought it to a whole new level. Jimmy was great, Stevie was the greatest
This man can walk on water when it comes to guitar, SRV used to say his brother was one of the best players he had ever heard, sometimes people don't know what to listen for, if u understand guitar playing you will understand what jimmy is doing is not something u will hear to often
@screenpuller completely agree... the biggest srv influence was his major bro.... so srv was a prodigy, maybe jimmie don´t, but he is a great blues man. i just saw the thrill is gone in crossroads fest 2010. the best version i+ve saw. jimmie´s solo is simple, but so emotional he received the biggest aplause from the crowd
Jimmie is good, different style than Stevie,& I truly believe, that Stevie was born to play the Blues ..What Stevie has is a gift..I Love & miss you Stevie
rather annoying, like little kids that get jealous if a friend becomes friends with another kid. Both Jimmie and Stevie are more than spectacular. Different styles do not equal less talent. I for one prefer many styles with equal appreciation for each. I picture negative people as couch potatoes, with the same hairstyle, clothing, and aversion to any differences or changes they've had since they were toddlers. Their pleasure comes from berating the talents of others to fill the void of their own lack of talent and insecurity. It's sad to think of the sheltered, dull, boring existence these folks must have. I couldn't imagine living only being able to fully appreciate one style or one artist or one genre of music. Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie Ray, Jimmie Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Santana, Jeff Beck, Bonnamassa, B.B., so many so unbelievably talented...kenny wayne...they're ALL supremely superb and each one as great as the other and they've all made this world better and more enjoyable!! So grateful that God gave us these gifts even if some were not among us as long as we would have liked.
Poor Jimmy has to live in his brother's shadow now.... by all accounts, Jimmy was Stevie's BIGGEST guitar influence. I LOVE SRV, but give Jimmy his props too... he's a great blues guitarist in his own right.
at the end he was talking about feeling it - when you play slow, the brain has time to process the data - the sound- and offer a chemical response which is the appropriate emotion. when you play fast, this emotion is bypassed and a lot of the feeling is lost
yea, some just don't understand that "chops" doesn't equal good. Jimmie has soul and subtlety. He was SRV's favorite guitar player! that alone makes him one of the best......
@speckman2591 So you think that JV should talk about SRV every time someone asks him a question? That's ridiculous. They're asking him about his influences. JV has a totally different style from his little brother (and I LOVE SRV, too, by the way) so it's only to be expected that he doesn't mention him. As for rankings, we're talking about music, not a running race. whether you like JV or not, he DOES have his own style and sound. You can tell it's him by listening to just one note.
gotta love capos. Thank gawd for capos haha! Ahh but Jimmie makes it look so easy. This is shit I had to learn by ear most of my life. Still a trip..even tho its basic
Jason my name is Jerry Shadrick from Missouri I wounder if we are related. Some of my kin folks is Vince Shadrick, Olan Shadrick , my Dad is Owen Shadrick?
@hungerstriker27, I'm hoping to go see Mr. Vaughan at the end of sept. when he plays Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. I love how Jimmy doesn't use a pick... it gives his style his own "flavor". Anyway... go eat yor dinner!!! (jk, A lame attempt at humor bcuz of your name) XD
@guitarthroat it sounds like you agree with me, but you aren;t into people "copying" others. fair enough. first, he isnt trying to pass it as his own, he openly celebrates stevie with his audience cause he knows we are also there to hear him play stevie. noone else even comes close. 2nd, if you actually listen to his cd's you will here him in a different voice, all his own. 3rd, some people, believe it or not, dont care about originality. lets be truthful, most original songs suck.
Jimmy will find his tune..pick up where Stevie left off is what I'd work on if I was Jimmy and Stevie's brother..Stevie wasn't done with music..That helicopter crash finished it for Stevie..That's what I think.
@guitarthroat Gotcha! Just cause he's his brother doesnt mean anything. As far as playing goes, he doesnt wow anyone but other average guitarists, at best. KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD!!!!!!!!!!! ALL DAY EVRY DAY!!!
Listen to those early T-Birds records....I'll put those up against ANY blues record....I was somewhat dismayed when he started doing the capo thing cuz it changed his style...To me his style is killer rhythm and his version of BB King style lead...
Stevie no blues king never was never will be...gtr PLAYER..played music of the GREAT ones..nuttn really new..Jimmie I like..I rather Jimi Vee then..stupid roo..big Albert gave that name..he doesn't need to bring up stevie...world already knows..
@speckman2591 That is an incredibly stupid thing to say. SRV learned from Jimmie, not the other way round, so why should Jimmie talk about his baby brother when they are asking him stuff about his own style? Makes no sense. Also, the stuff towards the end about the importance of silences in music was really awesome. Confirms my theory that JV is the Miles Davis of the guitar.
IF he sucked he wouldnt be playing anywhere he has his own style and that is awsome i wish more guys would find their own style instead of trying to sound like SRV or Jimi I can't tell you how many guys can't find their own sound they spend a small fortune trying to sound like Stevie. Enough already. I can't stand two bit hacks who thinkt hey know good music open your ears.
Oh for goodness’ sake, sorry to be parked in the nitpicking camp, but Jimmie, of ALL people, ought to be blooming well amplified for this sort of thing !!!
What a great interview. The older I get, the more I appreciate Jimmie.
Fuck Jimmy Vaughan
Taught me so much in such little words, pause let it sink in, then play again. As Jimmie's brother Stevie Ray once said keep it simple, such down to earth guys, we all miss and love you Stevie.
I never get tired of this interview. Jimmie's playing is truly inspiring. His phrasing says so much about space and note choice and not overplaying.......just as he talks about. I think it takes years to get to that point. The older I get, the more I appreciate space in playing.
I love Jimmie! He is such a great player, tone, taste, groove, kindness and look!
Yes Jimmie you are one of my favorites!
I love Jimmie Vaughan, one of the best roadhouse players ever to grace a stage, pure style, pure feeling. Jimmie is a good man. A real good player and a fine Texan.
Fuck Jimmi Vaughan
Let the people feel it Jimmy Vaughan..You just keep playing what you play best and that's all that matters..Jimmy is a legend and a sensational guitar player..
humble man awesome player
I just couldn't imaginehow anybody could be that cool.....
Just seen him live tonight!! Just pure authentic Blues! What an experience!!!! Still shocked;)!!
i just learned more about blues in this 5 min seg w Jimmie I love the musicologists like Keith and Billy G Eric SRV They are the keepers of the blues flame. Thank u for posting this
this is great. Out of all guitar players, Jimmies approach is the one I've wanted to hear about most. Thank you for the post.
Great insight, thanks for getting some quality time with Jimmie...
GuitarEdge and Jimmie, Thanks a bunch for this video!! So much wisdom from Jimmie in this interview. Very, very inspiring!
I agree - this is priceless. Jimmie is a total original who manages to both display his influences and yet sound very unique. And I love his singing.....
There's so much depth of knowledge here.Very fine gentleman, giving us insight into how to become better musicians.
Soak it up , good people.
Yeah right
Better musician
He is a shitty musician
I first seen Jimmie at Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette La. in the early or mid 70's and was hooked from then. Never missed any show he put on if I was anywhere near.
He is a master - his words are deep and absolutely sensible!
great interview and fun too.
Excellent discussion. He has a lot of good knowledge. Musicians always borrow each others' licks when they are learning. That's not stealing, not hurtful. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Words of wisdom from brother Jimmy! He is a serious cat, a true craftsman.
Thanks for this, great to have an insight into the man, love his playing.
“I imagined myself in a room with these guys”…. And years later it was well beyond that sharing stages with various guitarists he mentioned. So humble and what a guitarist. Saw him with EC at MSG this week.
Jimmie is one of the finest blues cats of our time...
@scrumpymanjack I would just like to say that I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jimmie. It was in Austin and he was far from being a jerk. Hi Jason. It's good to see you again with Jimmie. Good luck!
Coolest interview ever! What a down to earth cat, thanks Jimmy
coming to madrid this week, so excited!
In addition to being a legitimate artisan who belongs in the blues pantheon, this man is one of the most decent and unaffected people any of us will ever meet.
Cool to hear Jimmie reference Clarence Gate mouth Brown.
One of my favs along with Jimmie
Jimmie is a bare bones player. No flash, no power chords, no speed over substance. Like Lynwood Slim on harp, Jimmie doesn't waste notes.
I enjoy listening to his music and his interviews.
Oh c'mon.....he asked the right questions and Jimmie provided all of us blues lovers with great insight and wisdom. Why the hate, brutha?
I hope he 'll make a DVD of all of that he learned.....it would be great for all guitar players....
Perhaps the best concert I ever witnessed: 1994 Strange Pleasure tour. Backed up by 3 gospel singers.
The gospelsingers sing beautiful
💗
Took all the different influences and put them together. Stevie Ray took it and brought it to a whole new level. Jimmy was great, Stevie was the greatest
awsome thanks
Jimmie's going to be at a show at Deer Lake, Burnaby and I plan on going to see him, it'll be great !!!!
hes one of the first super great players too say we all model our playing off of others it s true and beutiful
This man can walk on water when it comes to guitar, SRV used to say his brother was one of the best players he had ever heard, sometimes people don't know what to listen for, if u understand guitar playing you will understand what jimmy is doing is not something u will hear to often
The solo on "Tuff Enough" is one of my favorites.
I guess it's kinda hard describing the invisible.
I have a red and white Jimmy Vaughn Fender Strat.
Jimmie is an American treasure.
i just met him. he is a really cool, down to earth guy. he signed my pickguard. so did lou ann barton.
Great video thank you
Good advice to aspiring guitarists...gotta like Jimmie.
Good interview ! Thanks !
I liked Jimmie's style with the T'birds - he has that staccato old school choppy lead thing going on.
Love Jimmie, cool guy and interesting player..
@KeepOnBluesin I saw him. Small venue and i was so disappointed when it ended. If you can go see him.
Best gig I ever went to was Fab T's at Marquee club,London, maybe 1980
@screenpuller

A true legend
Same here JT.....what a cool dude!
got to see him about a month after 9/11, he didn't want to leave stage
Jimmie thanks for playing the way you do. I know what you mean about everybody trying to fill in all the time
Cool! JLV! Too cool for school!
Great insight right here.
Picasso once said that true masters don´t lend they steal! I love Jimmie Vaughan. He´s the big bro.
rather annoying, like little kids that get jealous if a friend becomes friends with another kid. Both Jimmie and Stevie are more than spectacular. Different styles do not equal less talent. My strat looks exactly like his strat (it even has his signature on the back of the headstock) :)
Poor Jimmy has to live in his brother's shadow now.... by all accounts, Jimmy was Stevie's BIGGEST guitar influence. I LOVE SRV, but give Jimmy his props too... he's a great blues guitarist in his own right.

Like I died and went to Gitar Heaven! Great as it gets. :)
Good stuff

Drinking at the font, friends. The man speaks the truth.
@proudandjoy You proved my point. Thank you
@jayscott49 I'm pretty certain Jimmie uses and endorses Shubb capos Jay.
Jimmie is the man! He is awesome. and just because he is so awesome he still fit in all that wisdom, but the interviewer is the one who sucks.
It's now 2020..so time has moved on..
yea, some just don't understand that "chops" doesn't equal good. Jimmie has soul and subtlety. He was SRV's favorite guitar player! that alone makes him one of the best......

Well said Pr00 :-)
no doubt! ditto!
I like the way he does it backwards.
Jimmie Vaughan crossroads Interview
A great video ... Jimmie was not my favorite but I have softened my heart to him over the years ...
@@christysmith76 I saw him open for Buddy Guy the 2nd time I saw him.

Jimmie....get down
ooops date is Aug 11th
@standad445 Stevie said that Jimmie was the best of them...
Jason Shadrick sits down with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan to talk about his WHAT?
Jimmy will find his tune..pick up where Stevie left off is what I'd work on if I was Jimmy and Stevie's brother..Stevie wasn't done with music..That helicopter crash finished it for Stevie..That's what I think.
Super guy and great "git-fiddle" players!
