Vaughan plays WITH the groove, against the beat for the most part. He doesn't spray his notes on top, his phrasing weaves in and out of beat, lets them breath, like a horn player would. He plays whats right for the song, not what he can fit into a measure. There's so much to learn from what he's doing, people who think he's boring aren't listening closely enough.
What you're watching is SRV's biggest influence. Jimmy has a style all his own. Very tasetful and playing for the song. Much respect for Mr. Vaughan. Veteran.
I call that extra extra Jimmy's. Nobody can do it like Jimmie Vaughan. I feel like the luckiest man on Earth cuz I got to see the Thunderbirds in 83 with Keith Ferguson and many times in 86 87 with Preston Hubbard. And that Kim Wilson's with the voice from heaven in the harmonica harp from outer space the greatest thing since slice bread... and I think sliced bread is great
Few guitarists use space as well as Jimmie does. If anyone wonders what the secret to his good taste is, I'd venture it is the fact that he's not afraid to leave space in his playing. If you listen to his runs, they are actually fairly fast (he's not sweep picking but there are a lot of 16th notes.) But it seems easy to listen to because he gives you time to take it in between runs.
@JJM It's pretty much subjective. It's not a contest. I loved Stevie's "open channel" (I think E.C. used that description once) ability to just rip wide open, never seeming to be at a loss for where to go next. He was a master at dynamics as well. Their styles are quite different. Jimmie plays his way. Less is more. You don't like it, that's your prerogative. You don't get it. Not a contest.
I used to think Jimmy was struggling when his brow would crease like that, now I realise that's just how he grooves out. The smell of those riffs are so potent he can't help but squint.
I remember the fabulous thunderbirds did a couple of numbers on a late night talk show sometime in the 1990's. Jimmy vaughan was wearing a gun, and the leather holster with the requisite bullet on it. Too cool, the guy has his own style, but totally different.
@JJM You are on a sure fire run replying to god knows how many 3 year old comments, trying to tarnish Jimmies name. Which you aren't capable off. Stevie let the world know Jimmie was his main influence and how good he is/was, Eric Clapton, BB King and many other greats have complimented his playing religiously throughout the years. Quit being a troll and maybe sign off the internet for a while.
Wow, the comment section is really..odd to say the least... It's a video of Jimmie..its not a comparison... those that want to "compare" just don't get it... never will.. May i suggest going out on the tube and watch Jimmie and Stevie play the double neck Strat with Pipeline.. notice how big brother got little brothers back and plays along in the blind from behind.. if you can't see or hear the talent Jimmie has.. don't know why you are here in the first place.. sorry for your bad luck.. Two brothers.. both great talents with love shared.. what a life they had and have... Play on Big Brother..
Both Sax players were original roomful members while we are on that subject....Doug James and Greg Piccolo....and I am assuming you just like to stir stuff up because you clearly don’t ‘now what “shady shit is”...
Absolutely. He is so considered. No ‘sugar notes’. Plays the bass lines when he’s got nothing to add. I myself try to play like a brass section, it’s what you leave out.
Of course Stevie is a huge loss. But, don't get confused here. Two entirely different players. And remember, without Jimmie, there would have been no Stevie.
There's so much to learn from him: he doesn't play too many notes, only the good ones... Just try to play "Hillbillies from outerspace" with a drum machine, and no buddies, and you'll understand.
christ Jimmie's got better timing than the drummer. i think if you took away the band and just let him play you'd still be able to dance. SO underrated!!
Of course you have every right in the world to not like JV's playing and that's totally acceptable. What you can't say is that JV is a bad guitarist/musician. And that's because Jimmy's a part of blues guitar history. He has already been judged by millions of musicians and listeners and given a place next to the greats not to mention that his playing has influenced many many young (and older) guitar players. So please stick to subjective comments else you're just making fools of yourselves.
Simply the best guitar player of his era. If ya can't hear it you don't know anything about soul! Oh, by the way there was a post a while back were Robert Plant "jammed" with Jimmie. This post got more likes and coverage I couldn't count them all. I don't understand this at all. Jimmie is the real thing. Plant isn't even in his league. I just don't understand the mass taste.
That doesn't make sense. The whole purpose of soul is how the music makes you feel. Not how you should feel about the music. If people don't like this and think it's boring that's fair. Music is subjective which means people have just as much right to dislike it as you have to love it. There is no one size fits all in music, stop trying to force it.
Stevie once said (famously) "I play 80% of what I know. Jimmie plays about 1%. He can play anything." You are demonstrating your ignorance, or you simply are not listening.
@@jaykayrouz7210 Uhm.... this is perhaps the most blatantly ignorant and obviously stupid comment I think I've ever seen on TH-cam. I'm sorry, but you couldn't possibly be any more of a moron. Maybe you should stick to Sunday afternoon sports on tv, maybe through in some all-star wrestling. And I thought the, "are we sure they're related" comment was ridiculous, you've taken stupid to a whole nother level!
@@christopherp.9616no, he is absolutely correct. This guy is so overrated and gets on every blues tour and still gets tour dates all because of his name. There are people, young and hopeful players at most local bar jams with no recognition across the US and probably over seas that are eons better and more authentic than him.
True. Some people just can't hear tones correctly. He's pretty bad to say the least. He used to be pretty decent though. Been awhile! Good for him though, doing what he loves!
Dreadlock Banana Your missing the point entirely dude. Its an old school blues feel. Less is more for this Cat. All the licks are well phrased short and sweet. He has the magic of not having to overplay to make his point and his tone is cool as fuck
If you like mindless note repeating at breakneck speed making no sense Danny is a good one to go to....he could get none with talent to listen to him or promote him and he killed himself....good choice....

+Judd Austin ya mean behind the beat, right? blues needs it
well, yeah, bb king stuff, shuffles need it, but not everything. my comment "against the groove was meant to express that.
He's awesome.
Amen Brother..... He's Baaaad !!
Totally agree. He's a complex player when you begin to try and emulate him. He makes it look easy. One of my favorites for sure.
When i was a much younger I could not stand this type of playing or music. Now I can only shake my head at the ignorance of my youth.
What you're watching is SRV's biggest influence. Jimmy has a style all his own. Very tasetful and playing for the song. Much respect for Mr. Vaughan. Veteran.
This guy... taught SRV.. and for that Master we thankyou.
Jimmy, his hair is the only thing cooler than his playing. Love this.
Always Love to hear Jimmie Vaughan play . I loved his Playing with the The Fabulous Thunderbirds .
I call that extra extra Jimmy's. Nobody can do it like Jimmie Vaughan. @JJM you are obviously deaf dumb and blind I'll pray for you
Jimmie has a really cool vintage tone, love those flatwound guitar strings.

Very original way to play. Very nice.
Jimmie is great. If you can't hear it, you're not listening.

And I just relistened to this...not his best, so objectively I hear where you're coming from. Listen to more stuff from him..there's better out there.
Jimmy is great.
Jimmie its great!
What a beautiful warm and fuzzy tone on that guitar 🎸 Jimbo is a master
Love that JV phrasing. Beauty.
I love you Jimmie -- thank you so much for being good to us down here in San Antonio. :)
Jimmie Vaughan the blue's legend..terrific entertainment..great guitar player...sweet sound
Cool, tasty playing.
To the poster: First, thanks for posting! Nice quality! Second, the name is 'Jimmie Vaughan' and the name of the song is "Comin' and goin'"' :)
Fantastic. Phrasing and tone. It’s way more than just his strat
Comments on Jimmy's videos are always fascinating. All of his videos are paradoxically the best reply to the stupid comments they generate.
That's great stuff. Always appreciated Jimmies style.
Jimmy is a Genius!...What a teaser!
Pure classic vintage 50s style..love it!
Hopefully a new album release this year, and even better..a live concert DVD release?
I love jimmy V his brother pure brilliance obviously but Jimmy is sooooooooooo tasteful!
Ya ! Jimmy ! your talent really shows through there !?! I seen you when , just in front of me you signed a guy's mini bar fridge door ?
I used to think Jimmy was struggling when his brow would crease like that, now I realise that's just how he grooves out. The smell of those riffs are so potent he can't help but squint.
The best and the coolest.
I have seen Jimmy Vaughan live in Sweden (Eric Clapton tour) many years ago. 😘
Love me some Jimmie
This is great JLV. I like to describe it as Thelonious Bone Walker style.
You know his tone is very unique,it definitely seperates him from the others, has a little rockabilly to it
Fkn great camera work! Whoever did this. Almost as good as bluesbroad!
its vaughan you know..with an A , and he's cooler then the other side of my pillow
I remember the fabulous thunderbirds did a couple of numbers on a late night talk show sometime in the 1990's. Jimmy vaughan was wearing a gun, and the leather holster with the requisite bullet on it. Too cool, the guy has his own style, but totally different.
Wow! Reminds me of the 60/70's.
great touch, tasteful phrasing and vintage tone
And at 70, Jimmy still got it man. Tasty!
Love, love, love
Great as Always,Go Jimmie Go!
Bien Jimmy tocado jazzy se nota que no hay cosa que no pueda tocar
Saludos
He's great sound is deep, band tight doesn't get better than that.

Deceptively simple guitar work. Jimmie is a swinging monster.
Nice! Good music still exists.

Wasn't he always playing with his fingers? This is new to me... Anyway, great! Love his tone!
The Master of understatement.
you can tell T Bone Walker inspired his style of playing alot.
What modern Blues Guitarist did TB NOT inspire? Whether they admit it or not....
These cats is grooovin!
Extra Jazzy Jimmies?
At 6:40 is that Stevie's old bass player sitting right up the front there.
No.
That sax player used to be with Room Full Of Blues! Greg Piccolo.
Both Sax players were original roomful members while we are on that subject....Doug James and Greg Piccolo....and I am assuming you just like to stir stuff up because you clearly don’t ‘now what “shady shit is”...
Props to the lefty drummer!
Very Nice!
That does it. I'm hanging a poster of this guy on my bedroom wall.
Funky! I hear some Leo Nocentelli on this one
He's playing with a pick for this song, rare to see him do that since he changed to using just his fingers many years ago.
Well JV detractors - JD Simo looks up to him as a key influence - nuff said.
Coolest player in the univerše
So friggin cool!
Absolutely. He is so considered. No ‘sugar notes’. Plays the bass lines when he’s got nothing to add. I myself try to play like a brass section, it’s what you leave out.
Yeah Jimmie Comin' & Goin'
awesomeness
AWESOME
The real deal.
He is ok. I miss Stevie.
We all still miss Stevie. He is not Stevie. He is Jimmy.
Of course Stevie is a huge loss. But, don't get confused here. Two entirely different players. And remember, without Jimmie, there would have been no Stevie.
Cool video, but you should edit to spell his name correctly. JimmIE VaughAn. Having said that, he’s the COOLEST.
No "A".
you sound like me when i’m taping
Love the jazzy licks but not fond of thd amp tone. Jimmmys still one of my favs
My favorite Vaughn bro for sure.
❤
where was this ? looks a cool spot
George Rains on drums ?
+Pascal Delmas Yes!
THanks !
It's Jimmie not Jimmy. Good video and sound.
Leave the guy alone and let him play for God sakes,,,,
Listen, up,,,you might even like it,,,
Louie ck on the fat sax!
There's so much to learn from him: he doesn't play too many notes, only the good ones... Just try to play "Hillbillies from outerspace" with a drum machine, and no buddies, and you'll understand.
Was that Lloyd Jones playing the Epiphone?
Billy Pittman
anybody know what kind of amps are behind the horn players ?
Srv was Faster. But I've always enjoyed Jimmy's playing more.
The sneakiest guitarist
christ Jimmie's got better timing than the drummer. i think if you took away the band and just let him play you'd still be able to dance. SO underrated!!
Drummer is a bit out of the pocket at the beginning but gets better as it goes. Cold start probably.
excelente
Nice trombone
Roomful horns

Stevie Ray is a guitar slinger. Jimmie Lee is a bluesman.
Tasty

Love this stuff from Jimmy. But I need some better drumming. Ouch!
Exactly. Don't like it
Got better as it went.

He's a great guy and all but he simply is NOT the best guitarist of "his era"...... intermediate at best. Good for him though, doing what he loves!
....so we're 100% sure he's related to stevie ray?
James Cuffle 1000 % sure....just go check out all the interviews the 2 of them do together.
Yes. It's the only reason he gets any attention.

Horrible, sounds like a beginner guitarist but hey GOOD FOR HIM!! Doing what he loves and getting paid!! RIP Sweet Stevie!!
Jimmy is not really a very good guitar player but sheeple tend to think so , why? Because he’s SRV’s brother
True. Some people just can't hear tones correctly. He's pretty bad to say the least. He used to be pretty decent though. Been awhile! Good for him though, doing what he loves!

Lick Cazzo
+Jimi Rocks ...yeah.
Clapton went through the less is more phase everyone was saying he lost his touch but he was maturing and honing his style
check out danny gatton instead dont waste your time
apples and oranges, friend.
