Carissa, Iwan & Frankie decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month they were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call their new home. We picked up Albi the cat along the way. Subscribe to follow our journey as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

Iwan, I think you need a go pro to either wear around your chest or have mounted on your cycle helmet so you don't need to ride your bike one handed.
The actress Carol Drinkwater has written books about growing olives and earlier this year there was a tv programme about her and her olives. I remember that she would go to the fishmonger to buy sardines and would pop a sardine in a bottle of water that she would hang in every olive tree. She claimed that humans couldnt smell them but flies could and that it was the most effective way to deal with the flies.
    Your kitchen/lounge looks great.

I saw you heated up some water for your shower? A good way to heat water up is having a plastic bidon sitting in the sun and try put it high up to gravity feed you water and then a cold bidon you can connect to for cold tap in case it gets too hot which it often does! 😊xx

can make simple fly traps by using old 1½-2 liter plastic bottles... cut the top off, reverse it inside itself, ducttape it on, fill it with sugarwater, some also say sugaryeast water works, haven't tried it... flies fly inside, and are too dumb to fly out again and eventually just drown in it, so no chemicals/poisons and is super cheap and simple to make

When I lived in Spain, we were taught to put artichokes in tin foil with a little olive oil and then chuck them on the barbecue or fire - natural and nice! We had a glut of them and struggled to find a means of preserving them.

Great video. Being from Souther Italy I grew up eating home grown artichokes 🙂 my mum made a wonderful artichoke risotto with little chunks of sausage. My grandma would take the hearts, coat them in an egg wash, cover with breadcrumbs and fry in olive oil. Delicious! You can also preserve them in olive oil for or lightly boil them and freeze them for winter 🙂 enjoy! Love from Scotland x

20:37 It's kind of ironic, but if you place the fly trap close to living quarters, you will experience more flies than what you had before. Trap them away from your living spaces. My favorite way of dealing with the buggers, is with a swatter! I am a pro and think it should become a competitive sport (only because I happen to be really good at it). I am available at reasonable rates...

If you can find a farm that will sell you hay/straw bales cheap it makes a great garden mulch that breaks down really well & attracts worms. The better the soil gets the easier the weeds come out. If you can find bales of lupin straw even better.
