UPDATE!! At 7 stops (highest VND strength), this one has a slight gradient. Nothing noticeable but on a white wall or something similar, you'd be able to see it!
Yes it has it at the top range but it's still the best 2 in 1 among all similar types of filters. VND top range goes higher than most of the competition. Others do 1-5 stops (ND2-ND32) while Haida does 3 to 7 (ND8 - ND128).

I even reached out to customer service only to get the cold shoulder. Glad to see someone else in the same issue and I’ll definitely be giving this filter a shot
This one's great, just two nuances that I've picked up with it. 1st is the VND strength lever, it rotates the whole CPL thing quite easily so you'd have to two hand it. 2nd is that there's no colour shifts BUT there's a flat gradient on the highest VND strength. It's not too noticeable but if it's like a white wall or something similar, you'd be able to notice it.
Thanks for the informative content. Can I stack individual filters on top of each other like nd, cpl, black mist? If so what would you put in order? Should they be the same mm size? Thank youu
You can put black mist first and then ND or VND or VNDCPL. You can stack more but ghosting will be worse and it'll have some weird stuff going on. Could work with some stuff but not ideal. Max 2 filters as long as it's not VND and CPL together.

Hi! I have a question. Is it possible to attach the mist filter on a vnd+cpl filter? I want to purchase these ones but didn't figure out how to use them together
Hm... It's very very interesting! Maybe you tried the NISI True Color VND? I heard a lot of good reviews about this filter, so it's interesting how Haida looks compared to NISI...
@@VictorLaforteza Wow! It's really really interesting! Do you already know what you prefer between NISI and Haida? I wanted to buy a NISI one today, but saw your review, and now i'm in doubts 🙂 What do you think, what is more usable, 1-5 Stops in NISI or 3-7 in Haida? Looks like 3-7 might be more useful. But on the other hand NISI has magnetic +4 Stops solid ND, so it became 5-9... Price of Haida is much lower, by the way :-)
@@MagnetiqLabs Haida is great! But it does have a gradient vignette like on 6-7 stops on a 24mm Full frame, not overly noticeable but it is there. NiSi doesn’t have this issue!
@@VictorLaforteza Thank you Victor for the answer! I have just one last question before buying, I swear :-) What do you think, at bright sunny day, at full frame, at wide open 1.4 aperture, is 7 stops ND will be not enough? I have a feeling that at daylight even 9 Stops will be not enough. I thought that Haida with 3-7 stops will be more practical, but now I started to think that maybe 3-7 range will be not enough at daylight anyway. So NISI 1-5 + 4nd might be more practical
@@MagnetiqLabs no worries!! if you have more questions, keep asking em! Happy to answer all of them haha! at 1.4 and if you're shooting LOG profile with the base iso of 800 (sony cams) it'll be super bright and you'll need the 5-9 stops on a bright sunny day!
Hey Victor, it's been a year since this video published. Do you still use this filter? I've been researching and it seems like this is the best for a 2-1 VND + CPL (vs. K&F), but it seems like it would be better to get them separately. However, my plan is to buy the Haida and deal with it's nuances to figure out how often I'd use either or, since I don't have experience with either filter. What are your thoughts?
I still use the Haida, yes but I prefer using a solid ND for professional work. This one is good for run and gun. I dont have any experience with the K&F sorry!
How about vignetting in corners in a full power on that ND? I bought 1-5 stops variable ND from KaF concept which everyone praised on TH-cam reviews and I have terrible vignetting in opposite corners at 5 stop. It's especially visible on the white paper.
@@VictorLaforteza Thanks for the info. It was on 24mm. I have read from one TH-cam user under the different video, that he have same Haida as you and he have "uneven exposure with darker and lighter sections of the image" and it also have "x pattern to some degree" 🫤
@@vojtanethio okay so I just tested it out! 3-5 stop range has no issues and then at 6 it starts to show a little bit and then at 7 stops it shows up. It's a more gradient pattern but nonetheless it is there!
@@VictorLaforteza thanks! Did you test that on white paper or something else plain white? So it have "only" darker gradient, not brighter, darker spots or X pattern?
I think it must do something with physics and constructions of circular ND filters overall which is impossible(?) to eliminate. Because my KaF concept starts doing vignetting thingy in opposite corners after third stops as well
Are you kabayan? Hehe. Im thorned between haida 4-9 stops and this 2 in 1 filter. I have 1.4f and 2.8f 55mm lenses, ofcourse i will still buy step up ring 55mm to 67mm for my lens. What will be the best choice? Hehe thanks
I have a Black Magic 4K, so I will need an IR cut filter. Does the cut filter go before the ND filter (before as in closer to the camera lens)? This Haida has two thread sizes, so I am trying to figure out what IR Cut thread size I need.
I'm new to using nd filters and a stobe for portraits. I got a 1-5. Is that enough or should i go for 1-9 or 5-9? I'm doing indoor and outdoor sports portraits for school sports as a volunteer
So is it possible to alter VND and CPL separately on this one filter basically? I’m still new to filmmaking and I’m trying to get a good ND filter, but I want to make sure how this one works before I decide to get it lol
@@That__Brandon yeah, it will always alter the other unless you rotate the cpl back to it's place where you had it originally.. it's versatile but also cumbersome at times.
Glad you think so!! Yes, I have the mist filter first and then the 2-1 :) It'll have ghosting at night or direct light sources! Other than that no other issues!
Hey! Thanks for the review! What about shooting in SLog3 800 ISO sunny day, is 7 stops enough to shoot in f1.4 and keep the shutter 50 on 25fps and the exposure correct? Thanks.
I bought this Haida CPL VND, but found I wasn't able to use with my SmallRig matte box on account of the way the VND control lever sticks out. I mainly use SRMB as a good hood and rain shield plus option for adding fx filters like black mist etc. Irony is I just bought a more expensive Polar Pro PM Signature ii edition. Have yet to test that properly for 'weird' colour shifts. Maybe I will eventually just have to go with fixed NDs. Separately, it looks like you could benefit from a good mike stand, or boom/arm etc to hold your mike? IMO waving it around, hand held, was a tad distracting. I found my eye just drawn to your mike waving about. Best just out of frame (ideally boomed) or at least static in shot.
@@sofiabermudez478 No not had any problem with stuck filters. Prior experience of sticking filters usually related to over hasty fitting and lack of care to avoid crossing threads when screw fitting onto a lens. Nowadays I always take care (and time) to correctly ensure the threads engage smoothly. It's never good to apply force to fit. If threads are reasonably clean then the filter should just 'screw on' with little effort or force. If it won't turn, then I always counter rotate and re attempt to 'mate' threads properly - little force is needed. It just works. Too much 'brute force' is a great recipe for crossing your threads and having ongoing difficulties. I know 'cus I tried that many years ago and learnt from my error.
hi, i wanna buy the haida vnd-cpl one, but how can i stack it with the mist filter. The mist filter is gonna stack in front of the vnd or behind it? im new to camera filters :D
can you remove the metal handle (whatever we wanna call it lol) so it will fit in a matte box? Also, do you think on a sunny day, 7 stops is typically needed if you want to shoot wide open?
yeah that one is removable! just be careful not to lose it hahaha 7 stops is enough on a sunny day! sometimes you need more though but I find on a good sunny weather, it's perf. just watch out at 7 stops there a slight gradient.
Mind asking if it work with lens mounted with matte box? I am using the SmallRig mini matte box lite which support round filter but I am worry about the tilting notch that the filter have for twisting the amount of filter effect for vnd will not able to turn or even mount on with the matte box. Please advise.❤
Maybe you can help me…. I use Phantom Luts in Premiere pro. When i use a CPL filter, the colours are depending on the position of this filter. So if i spin it, inallready see in the atomos monitor, that the colours are getting crazy. Do you have any tips?
It’s the polarizer working. If you increase the strength of the ND you have to make sure you rotate it again to where it looked before. Unfortunately, it’s how it’s designed :(
@@VictorLaforteza great thanks for your answer 👍🏻 but why is it only like this if i use nd and cpl filter in combination? When i only use the ND Filter or cpl filter there is no colour missmatch while spinning it
After having bad results of VND with vignetting. Solved with buying a 95mm vnd on a 82mm lense and using step down rings. 1/8 tiffen mist filter never leaves the lense. And is stacked first. After that step up ring and freewell VND. Rarely will have third filter which isb the freewell CPL magnetic, can't use it much because when I have all these other filters before, CPL doesn't have much strenth compared when using only a mist filter + cpl. A small workaround to have all 3 is to separe the ring of the cpl and the filter it self, and apply the filter on VND. (It stays because is magnetic) Now, it seems that CPL is stronger. But introduce another problem, is harder to rotate cause doesn't have the ring😁. This haida filter 2 in 1, seems might be a solution. Tho, it looks it has less stops strength.
I love the magnetic freewell filters!! on and off so quickly lol I got them banged up pretty good since i just put them in my pockets when i dont need em haha! oops. But ya the Haida one has a solid design. A moveable mechanism for the CPL and another movable mechanism for the VND! It's 3-7 stops for the VND it's a great balance between 2-5 and 6-9!
@@VictorLaforteza misread first when I read how many stops it has. You are right, 3-7 stops is a sweet spot able to cover even in slog outside on a regular day. Was sceptic when you said, no vignetting and that X, well here to confirm there is no vignetting. Recieved the filter today. That CPL does it's job too. Didn't think would like the handle, I was wrong. It is really practical. Also love how they implemented hard stop at 3 stop and the 7th stop. Not expensive at all compared on what brings to the table. Thanks for review.

Yup you can stack it! Pro must first and then the VND :)
@@VictorLaforteza Thanks for the reply Victor! As you have mentioned, wouldn’t stacking it up cause some glaring issues? Have you been able to test this out?
@@erwnalejo definitely more prone to ghosting! But doable as long as you don’t directly point it at a light source.
@@VictorLaforteza thank you for the reply!
Is there a cap available for the Haida filter? Any help would be appreciated.
No cap for it
Hi Victor, is that the Sony 24 1.4 you're recording this video with?
Yup!! That’s correct!
@@VictorLaforteza it looks stunning
I was looking for a good VND filter, I'll keep this in mind.
Wait so can you use the Haida 2 in 1 AND add the diffusion filter? Or if you have the filter you can’t use a VND?
Yup! Diffusion first and then this one!
Bought it! Love it!
Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Victor, nice video.Pls tell me, at 7!stops Haida vnd is any cross or vineting ?
on my 24mm I don't see any cross vignetting!
Quick question, for these videos, are you shooting in in 24 fps? Also, I love my freewell ND!
24 fps :)
Great video! Subbed immediately
I want to buy kase filters, have you ever test kase product? They seems better quality
have no idea with Kase filters never used em :( but my friend who's a renowned wedding filmmaker uses them and have great results.
what is the lut you are using in this video?
This was film base lut from the sunset film pack with adjustments to the WB

Hi! I have a question. Is it possible to attach the mist filter on a vnd+cpl filter? I want to purchase these ones but didn't figure out how to use them together
Before it, yes! But you have to be careful of lens ghosting since it’ll be two filters.
@@VictorLaforteza ok, thanks!
Hey buddy! Have u tried the h&y brand? I have their vnd cp plus black mist 1/8 magnetic and the filter fastens to 67-82 lens filter threads.
I haven't!! are they any good?
Which filter would you recommend as an all-rounder? ND 2-32 or 4-64. I mostly shoot/film outside and in different light situations
4-64 would be your best bet
@@VictorLaforteza Thank you 🙌 Have a good start in the New Year 🎆
Is there anyway to lessen the polarizer please? As i want to be able to use it on a 16mm lens(apsc) thanks buddy
I don’t think so :(
haida vnd filter looks siccc
RIGHT?! looks next level!
Hm... It's very very interesting! Maybe you tried the NISI True Color VND? I heard a lot of good reviews about this filter, so it's interesting how Haida looks compared to NISI...
I just got my hands on the NiSi true color VND! Still testing it out but it’s really good as well.
@@VictorLaforteza Wow! It's really really interesting! Do you already know what you prefer between NISI and Haida?
I wanted to buy a NISI one today, but saw your review, and now i'm in doubts 🙂
What do you think, what is more usable, 1-5 Stops in NISI or 3-7 in Haida? Looks like 3-7 might be more useful. But on the other hand NISI has magnetic +4 Stops solid ND, so it became 5-9...
Price of Haida is much lower, by the way :-)
@@MagnetiqLabs Haida is great! But it does have a gradient vignette like on 6-7 stops on a 24mm Full frame, not overly noticeable but it is there. NiSi doesn’t have this issue!
@@VictorLaforteza Thank you Victor for the answer! I have just one last question before buying, I swear :-)
What do you think, at bright sunny day, at full frame, at wide open 1.4 aperture, is 7 stops ND will be not enough?
Great informative video!
Glad it was helpful!
does the front of the filter spin if you have something screwed infront?
No thread in front of the VND, it has to be the last one on the stack!
How about vignetting in corners in a full power on that ND?
I bought 1-5 stops variable ND from KaF concept which everyone praised on TH-cam reviews and I have terrible vignetting in opposite corners at 5 stop. It's especially visible on the white paper.
What focal length do you have? At 24mm and using the 82mm there’s no vignette but I haven’t tried wider lens. I can confirm in a bit for you
@@VictorLaforteza Thanks for the info.
Because my KaF concept starts doing vignetting thingy in opposite corners after third stops as well
Kuya! do you stack pro mist over the VND CPL?
Yeah! Promist first and then VND cpl
@@VictorLaforteza thank you!
so smart but obvious, never thought to use it to reduce shine on skin
dear vicotr hiii . soo you cant see any x patern when rotate vnd? and you means in better thane polar pro?
No x pattern! Just a slight gradient for lighter scenes! I’d say yeah better than polar pro for the price. That thing is super expensive
Which caméra do you use
a7iv with this video
the tiffen filter put glasses on you!😀
shhhhh it's the free prescription glasses hack!! it's our little secret!
@@VictorLaforteza 😂
Hi, do the cpl rotate when you use 1 hand to adjust VND?
Yes, almost always.
@@VictorLaforteza so you have to hold it with another hand then adjusting the VND? If so, it kinda bummer
Are you kabayan? Hehe. Im thorned between haida 4-9 stops and this 2 in 1 filter. I have 1.4f and 2.8f 55mm lenses, ofcourse i will still buy step up ring 55mm to 67mm for my lens. What will be the best choice? Hehe thanks
Kabayan!! Yes that should work 🙌🏽
Bro I’m going to try this Haida filter.
I have a Black Magic 4K, so I will need an IR cut filter. Does the cut filter go before the ND filter (before as in closer to the camera lens)? This Haida has two thread sizes, so I am trying to figure out what IR Cut thread size I need.
I think it goes before the VND but im not too sure i havent used IR cut filters before
Would these filters help to fix the oversharpening smartphones makes?
No but it helps!
I'm new to using nd filters and a stobe for portraits. I got a 1-5. Is that enough or should i go for 1-9 or 5-9? I'm doing indoor and outdoor sports portraits for school sports as a volunteer
Not sure :( never done strobes
@@VictorLaforteza thanks
Great Presentation Champ
Thank you dude! Happy to get back on tutorials again!
So is it possible to alter VND and CPL separately on this one filter basically? I’m still new to filmmaking and I’m trying to get a good ND filter, but I want to make sure how this one works before I decide to get it lol
yeah they can both individually rotated! but it gets tricky since if you move the CPL the VND moves with it too
@@VictorLaforteza So does that mean one always alters the other? Or is it just a simple case of stopping one from rotating while rotating the other?
@@That__Brandon yeah, it will always alter the other unless you rotate the cpl back to it's place where you had it originally.. it's versatile but also cumbersome at times.
Really informative video! Do you typically stack the pro mist filter on top of the 2-1 filter?
Glad you think so!! Yes, I have the mist filter first and then the 2-1 :) It'll have ghosting at night or direct light sources! Other than that no other issues!
Hey! Thanks for the review! What about shooting in SLog3 800 ISO sunny day, is 7 stops enough to shoot in f1.4 and keep the shutter 50 on 25fps and the exposure correct? Thanks.
I'd suggest 9 stops if its fully bright out 7 stops is good for maybe 2-3 pm shots!
Do you have much problem with the Haida getting stuck on the lens?
If you combine a cpl filter with a light that has a cpl film over it you can take amazing video and pictures with 0% glare
great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
hi, i wanna buy the haida vnd-cpl one, but how can i stack it with the mist filter. The mist filter is gonna stack in front of the vnd or behind it? im new to camera filters :D
Behind it!
thank you so much! @@VictorLaforteza
can you remove the metal handle (whatever we wanna call it lol) so it will fit in a matte box?
I have the same mattebox unfortunately it doesn't fit :(
@@VictorLaforteza I think due to the notch
@@VictorLaforteza thanks anyway
Maybe you can help me…. I use Phantom Luts in Premiere pro. When i use a CPL filter, the colours are depending on the position of this filter. So if i spin it, inallready see in the atomos monitor, that the colours are getting crazy.
Do you have any tips?
It’s the polarizer working. If you increase the strength of the ND you have to make sure you rotate it again to where it looked before. Unfortunately, it’s how it’s designed :(
@@VictorLaforteza great thanks for your answer 👍🏻 but why is it only like this if i use nd and cpl filter in combination? When i only use the ND Filter or cpl filter there is no colour missmatch while spinning it
@@VictorLaforteza i know why i had the problem… it‘s the white balancing. It takes some time after spinning the CPL on the ND Filter. (SonyA7III)
Why iso 800 on a Sony camera?
That’s how they set it up. Mind you different Sony cameras and other picture profiles have different base iso s
@FacemChestiiPrinSUA have you tried with a 16mm?
@AshRedline worked well on a 17mm. That's the widest lense I have
bought this filter and get a good amount of vignetting when using lenses below 24mm if the pola isn't in the perfect position, probably going to return for that reason
Yeah it’s the drawback from making the polarizer free to rotate.
