My best friends here in the US are four giant Croatian-American father and sons whom I have known since 1986 (Persian connection). I visit them regularly every month, but I never learned a Croatian word. This is the first time I see this useful video with a beautiful Croatian lady. They have invited me to go to Croatia (he has a restaurant in Split) which I am planning to go as soon as the virus is out. So, thank you so much for this. I have to learn the basic.
Great job. I have already spoken Czech, Polish and Ukrainian for many years and found this to be more of the same family. Croatian is beautiful language laced with loads of rich words! This teacher does a very good job of making sure that you hear the word spoken correctly and that you really understand the meaning as well.
@@hernandezmiller6719 No, my husband is Croatian also, but learn from the own person we are married normally doesn't work, maybe he could help, talking in his language and in some questions, but teaching is another thing...
It's good to get the grammar etc from a teacher but maybe he can start speaking to you for basics in Croatian and build from there. My dad taught me some basics and pronunciation but I wish he had taught me more conversational Croatian. Sretno!!😊
Your transitioning between talking to foreigners and quickly going in character like speaking to Croatians is fantastic. Very enterntaining and good. Great video.
I just came back from Croatia having had dental implant as it costs much less than in the UK. I fell in love with the country and its people. I'm going back in three month's time for a follow up. I'm trying now to learn the language. Am told it's difficult. But I believe with a bit of effort and motivation nothing can stand in the way of learning it or indeed any. I'm multilingual. So hope this will help. I'm glad I've come across your channel . Just subscribed. wish me luck 😍
I feel like the trick is not to get bogged down in grammar rules right off. Ideally you'd have access to Croatian media outlets so you can just turn the tv on and listen to what they're saying. Start picking up vocabulary so you recognize words or phrases. One thing I've run across is the sheer number of dialects in Croatia. Andrea mentions Dubrovnik and those coastal areas apparently use lots of slang and different words from other areas, so much so that they can appear to be speaking almost a different but related language. Several people said learning Stokavian dialect is better since it's like a purer form of Croatian that everyone learns in school. You'd be understood speaking it in most places in Croatia.
I'm from India. I have a croatian friend, so I am looking for any video about basics of Croatia language and I found you. I want to impress my friend by talking in this language.
You have a clear, interesting way of teaching Croatian! Your personality comes through nicely as well and keeps our attention. Really appreciate this great video!
Croatian language in 🇭🇷1558. was named ❤" Mother of all Slavic languages". ❤ Croatian language became one of the official languages in Western universities at that time. Every single slavic student had to speak croatian language in order to study in any Western university. That is why Faust Vrančić published the first Dictionary of the croatian language in 1595 🇭🇷 and Bartul Kašić published the first croatian grammar in 1604. 🇭🇷. Croats are the first Slavic People to publish book in its language in 🇭🇷 1483 " Misal po zakonu rimskoga dvora"
I like Croatian since I learned some Russian and find impressive similarities. One day I would like to visit beautiful Hrvatska, but still I would like to speak-it somehow. Hvala!
As a slavic speaker. My speculation is that “Kenova” is a mix of italian and croatian and literaly translates to “what’s new.” Ke is from italian Que and probably means what and Nova means new in every slavic language and as slovak is closer to croatian than I thought I suppose it’s the same there too.

Been studying Croatian for a while since my girlfriend is from there. She speaks English but it would be useful for me to learn the language too for when I visit her. Started off studying the pronunciations and now learning words and phrases. It's honestly super fun learning languages. It used to bore me in school but now as an adult is super enjoyable
Very simple and helpful! A few things though: nazdravlje = 'bless you' versus uzdravlje/zivjeli = 'to your health/cheers'! At least that's how we were taught to speak 'back in the day' i.e. before the 21st century. Also, zbogom = 'goodbye' versus see you/bye = 'dovidjenja'. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk 😁
