The coverage of this show has been really bad, middle of the night for uk, giants live do not have the results posted anywhere I can see, no idea who won the show, no clips of anything until days after, doesn't even show the attempts at 505kg which was the major selling point of the show. I follow strongman so I've found out the results etc, but for a casual fan I don't see them having any chance.
If they posted the footage immediately it would disincentivize people to pay for the live stream. For live results at pretty much any comp you can find them on strongman archives. Also a casual fan probably isn’t going to care about a comp that isn’t one of the big 4, and why do you want to see a bunch of failed 505 attempts?

This production is really bad. Why are you cutting to closeups on the shins on certain attempts. Why is the event counter covering athlete faces on lockout? Why are the athletes washed out by the lights on the main cam, and then way too dark on the dynamic cam? Who is running this event?
No 505 attempts? Glad to see Trey's 470 though, the highlight of the show
Cause the only one close to pull it was someone they didn't pay to just do the deadlifts.

He won’t work with GL ever again after they gave Eddie video footage from WSM 2017 for his documentary smear campaign. They’ve apologized and invited him
@@cisrael468 the whole thing was a fiasco. if you look at the footage as neutral as possible you can see where eddie is coming from, those were questionable reps, but how it all was handled, especially from eddies side, was a complete shitshow, which is so sad, because both he and hafthor are great athletes.
@@DennisGr There's also more to it, including conversations about moving events from qualifiers to finals that were favourable. That recorded conversation with Stoltman and Bryce didn't help that end either. Thor was wrong on his lifts and such, nor can I deny he was a bit of a primadona at these events, but life goes on. He's definitely not the ego he once was and Eddie was hardly much better - especially his behaviour pre-fight. As for GL and WSM, there's some light at end of tunnel. Per Shahlei, there has been contacts, there was some inroads made but it's probably not happening this year.
@@DennisGr it’s actually pretty simple. Thor showed poor sportsmanship in 2017 and isn’t the first or last competitor to do so. The bigger issue is that the promoters who are supposed to remain neutral allowed Eddie to use footage to paint lies about how bad things were such as editing footage to make it look like Thor didn’t shake his hand on the podium. A comp promoter cannot aid in tarnishing the reputation of an athlete that has helped grow their brand for a decade. Absolutely untrustworthy behavior and the fact that the smear videos are still on Eddie’s channel makes it worse. I watch GL shows because of the competitors but Colin messed up big time and I don’t blame Thor for not coming back

In other camera angles you could see how much that 470KG deadlift meant to Trey while he was walking away. So awesome how he performed, putting heat on Mitch through the whole comp. Hell yeah man!

These shows seem to be getting worse every year. I didn't bother with this one, partly because it was at 2am. From what I've seen the arena was half empty too. And to top it all off, it looks like it was recorded on a potato. Bravo great production 👏
Trey doing 470 with no suite is crazy. Also Lucy is so ahead in the female deadlift, it’s insane.

These guys are pretty good. Still all of them are a far leap behind Hafthor. It's quite sad actually - this event is boring as hell because there has been no progress for a couple years and the only man on earth capable to really do something special wants nothing to do with the show.
Hafthor will likely break the record in a comp if given the right opportunity and he stays healthy. He'll do it for 2 reasons - prove doubters wrong and to ensure that Giants Live never has someone break his record while he is a live. He would do it simply so they have to bump their weight up to 510kg or more. Right now 505kg is an impossible number and he'll eventually add salt to that stat line.
Suck for Heinla. Guy is great but he's peaked. He'll never stay healthy long enough to grow to 505kg from his 480ish kg best. He's not that old but he looks less healthy every year. Guy is carrying far too much weight for his frame. If he was 10 years younger he could suffer through for a few more PRs but I don't know if he has any left.
I wish holding the bar was in the rules. These fingertip lifts are just hideous
Let's admit it, every one of us knew that it will not be pulled. Let's keep supporting Hafthor and he will break it with a better organization like Arnold Strongman Classic or Rogue Invitational.

I came to the comments looking for this to make sure I wasn't going crazy/blind. They forgot to grade some of the footage. I appreciate the effort to get this video out as quickly as possible after the show, though. Puts the 6-month wait for WSM footage to shame.

Tom and Mitchell is a classic example of how talent is nothing without hard work, not saying Mitchell isn’t immensely talented but this guy just works so hard, whether it’s content, his business appearances etc he has still be working hard in the gym getting better while Tom seems to almost be at a plateau

Giants Live, thanks for the video (message from the majority of viewers who don't post hate comments) !
They need to clean the bar after each attempt thoroughly. You can see blood stains from the athlete that pulled before on some lifts on the bar.
As many of them pull along their shins and open up gashes they have a risk of infection / transmitting potential diseases.
Im not implying that anyone of the guys is sick - its just a measure to protect the athletes.
Please take more care of that in the future.

Just go's to show what a monster Thor is. He's way ahead of these guys. In a different league. Hicks was all talk before of going for the record and he couldn't even lift 470kg! Shows that a lot of these guys are out of touch as to what it's gonna take to beat Thor's record.
Wow, most of these comments are jaded af. Does no one realize how astonishing it is that anyone lifts 400kg? It was "impossible" in my lifetime. Even more amazing that lots of guys are doing it. Thanks very much for giving a venue for top-tier professional athletes Giants Live.
I think the issue is Giants themselves promote this as a 505kg competition, and not a deadlift competition. Everything in the comp is tailored to someone pulling the record, and honestly fucks over everyone who isn't gunning for that and the overall competition. Having 3 people tied at each weight jump is stupid for competition.

If you’ve been deadlifting for years but somehow still struggle to get your prep right, that’s all on you.
It never ceases to amaze me how “off-point” some can be in their prep and best approach in this game.
It’s all very amateurish in some cases. But I suppose that’s the nature of the game, only a few are actual professionals (as in, this is how they make their living)
The egos don’t help either. The ones who pull a big weight and can’t stop themselves holding it and posing for a few seconds. Draining energy away from the next attempt. It’s just naive stuff.
Is holding 454 at the top as draining as pulling it? No. But it’s still draining you.
The official record stands at 501 kg, which Giants Live often fail to mention. They always mention the world record standing at 500 kg as set by Eddie Hall. However, it would be silly to put 501 on the bar and so would 502, so it's 505. Hmmm. It was clear from the start nobody would lift that, but Mutant Moose Hooper did pretty well and didn't even train for such a weight. I'd pay to watch Hooper and Thor go head to head. No boxing matches, please. Just strongman. No stupid politics. Can Colin Bryce and Thor not go into a smoke-filled room, close the single door, and duke it out inside for however long it takes to make things right again? That would be cool. Favoritism and stupid politics only hurt the sport.
Would love to see Nakonechnyy, Peiman and Asko Karu at the DL champs some day. MASSIVE pullers if healthy.
Change the production team for the show, the videos, the edits, the quality and the timing are all amateur at best
Evan singleton always looks like a kid who has just shown his parents a trick he learned after he lifts. Looks around to make sure they saw, gets nervous, scurries away excitedly.
There's a lot of negativity here, and some of it is fair, but thank you for putting this up for free. I think it would have been better to show the failed attempts as well, so fans can see how close athletes were to certain numbers.
I see the DL record falling in 2 years there’s a lot of hungry young talent coming up, unfortunately you have to prioritize DL only to break the record while the rest of the lifts my drop a little, just like Brian Shaw said it’s very difficult to be a well rounded athlete

Mitch came surprisingly close to the 505, He also seems to be able to progress and peak better than anyone else. I wouldn't put anything past mitch at this point.

I would ban figure of eight loop straps they are a cheating mechanism due to possibly being slack and saving 2" on pull.

No 505 happened, but there were still some amazing lifts, especially Trey's suitless deadlift world record. Eddie also improved a lot. Disappointed about Hicks and the Stoltmen though.
I swear Hicks and Makarov in training look like world beaters but it never materializes in comps. It's nuts.
Is Eddie Williams incredibly dense? He doesn't look like he'd weigh 190 kg.

Can someone tell me why some guys don't wear shoes ? and why some wear what look like slippers / small thin shoes ? Why don't they wear sneakers or the shoes they use for the rest of the competition ?
Puts you closer to the floor so you don't have to lift as far and also for stability.

It is. But we have a larger pool of people training so it makes sense. Plus the knowledge base for diet, training, and effective use of peds has definitely progressed as well.
At this point, I think the only candidate that has a shot is Mitch Hooper. His 505 attempt looked the most convincing by far. You guys really need to convince Thor to come back somehow, otherwise the only chance of 505+ being lifted at Giants Live will be a Hooper that actually dedicates himself to break the world record. This seems kinda unlikely any time soon though since it would affect his overall performance in strongman competitions negatively.
Thor will likely break the record at another comp/event in the next year and put it out of reach. If he hits 510 I doubt giants live will try having guys push for 511 after all the fails with 505
The deadlift championships is getting boring. EVERY year it’s the same thing. A couple guys pull 470 and everyone knows nobody is pulling 505. Mitch will not get it next year. The only way I see Mitch pulling 505 is doing what Thor did which is train exclusively to break the world record. People say that Mitch almost had it but no he did not. He pulled it right below his knee caps(very impressive) however if you get in a deadlift position and place an empty bar 1-2 inches below your knee caps and go up the rest of the way. It’s still a long ways to pull especially when you are taller. Mitch is 6’3. Which is about the average height for most strongmen but still considered tall for the average man. I also think Mitch will have to put on some weight if he is going to pull 505kg.
Rauno is a deadlift monster. Smaller than other top lifters, but he made it look like it was easy. Respect!
Maybe that's an advantage as he doesn't have to lift it as high up?

Anyone else notice that Tom didn’t use figure 8 straps and everyone else did? You don’t have to rely on your grip no where near as much when using 8’s. Tom was using his grip and his forearms were probably shot. EDIT: after looking over again I noticed including Tom that Trey, Biby and Luke didn’t use 8’s. I think that’s everyone. 😄

Looking back now Trey’s 470 was more impressive than Hooper getting 505 to below his knee caps. No suit and no figure 8’s at 470kg is actually insane. He is actually now the first person to ever pull 470 conventional without a suit. Trey with a lot of practice in a suit and figure 8’s has to be in the 490 range on a good day.

It doesn't seem to be Mitch's goal, but if he focuses on the dl, he can get 500 within a year (that's what it looks like to me).
I think maybe Mitch Hooper will do it one day. He's still young, and he works really hard on perfecting his technique. I reckon he's waiting for the right time to focus on it

The amazing thing is that 8 years later, these guys are still only beating the previous best by 5kg. Regardless of the shit talk about Hafthor vs Eddie, the "home gym lift", chipping it by 1kg... Eddie smacking the world record in the mouth by 35kg is certainly a legendary feat of strength. We might never see a jump like that ever again.
