Seeing dogs kicking like this after relieving themselves, I've always assumed this to be some kind of primal behavior that was once more effective long ago to where they're trying to cover their tracks. This guy's theory could be it or maybe it's both.
My dog does it after peeing, (looks like a charging bull)..but he's only 9lbs.😁
I call it Raking
The belief is that by doing this the scent of the business is further dispersed

Why do dogs scratch off after they pee? Cleaning. Is the same as why we wash our hands after peeing.
