- Disaster strikes and this could have left us HOMELESS while traveling the wild Atlantic way in IRELAND. While living full time in our self built camper, vanlife and travel isn’t always easy, and when disaster strikes on the road you need to get it sorted straight away. Whilst travelling around Ireland we woke up and realised that our fully loaded 55 litre gas tank is hanging off our van which could have been catastrophic to not only us but others too, but after a good cup of tea and a special toasty we got the problem fixed and carried on traveling in our self built campervan living the van life in Ireland . we think youll enjoy this video • Full Time Van Life In ...

You know what I love about you guys?, no it's not your accent, I'm a south London boy and it's taken me ages to understand you......but seriously, it's your HONESTY, and your down to earth videos that are no frills, no nonsense, just giving a straight talking account of your travels with a touch of humour and no arty farty content. So many TH-camr Van-Lifers would have hidden this gas tank mishap for fear of criticism, but you just once again tell it like it is. The way that you battled through this really is so impressive, I know you wouldn't see it that way and would just put it down to one of those things that need sorting, but most of us would have run to the nearest garage and thrown money at them to sort it. Even when you were both under the van there were no tears, just two happy go lucky faces looking up at the camera........Hope I'm lucky enough to bump into you on the road one day on my travels, it would be my pleasure. In the meantime I'll catch up on my Scouse/Cockney translation book just in case we struggle to understand each other........Safe travels guys
Wow firstly thank you for this amazing comment, we are both really touched that you have taken the time to write this, and yes we totally understand the language barrier as us scouser’s talk very fast, and have our own little sayings and me and Neil are probably worse than most as when we can’t remember what somethings called we make up our own names for things 😂😂😂
But in all honesty we had to show what happened as it could happen to anyone on the road and if it makes even one person check their van/motorhome more often it’s worth it, and yes it gave us a fright but it had to be dealt with or our travels would have come to end, or even worse if we moved someone could have got hurt and we couldn’t have handled that. Secondly with a comment like you have left, we now feel we will have to hunt you down and give you scouse cuddles 😊😊
I do t blame you wanting to fix it back in properly, I would be constantly under there checking that ratchet strap. Nice work on fixing it you two 😎 In with the adventure 😎

Stay clear of big towns, countryside for us. PS We stayed at number 12 last month same sight as you. We had to get the branches cut down above. Lake Lanagh was a squirkey camp site. Lovely walks by the lake. PS we caravan & seeing more of Ireland now than we ever did with you. You must go to Cong. That you will enjoy ❤

Wow, glad you caught it, i lost a 10lb fire extinguisher once, i watched it ping pong off the center concrete dividers before pitching itself off the edge of the road.. thankfully there was no traffic around, i now use dual locking mounts ✌️
Things definitely can go wrong in the blink of an eye on the road, it’s a lesson we have learnt, it’s just lucky we spotted it so no one got hurt!!

This is true, we have been to a few towns as we do need to stock up and to be fair, the towns we have been to we have been lucky that they aren’t massive with heavy traffic!
That's a perfect reason to go gasless in a van , 1 less hazard to deal with

I’d bolt a strip of angle iron to the flat bar to stop it flexing as this is what would have caused the issue in the first place, flexing causes fatigue 👍

I'd consider using stainless steel or Brass just for the anti rust factor especially as your having to drill location holes.

To be fair apart from the gas tank hanging off it was all good . Our vans high so we didn’t need any ramps or any thing like that but yer all done and no fingers lost which is a bonus

The default gas tank size for a VW Crafter is some 94 liters, not a regular 55 liters for normal car (unless you changed your gas tank).
It’s the gas tank for our heating, hot water and cooking, we had underslung fitted not the fuel to run the van, we opted for that instead of gas bottles.
Thanks for sharing your journey. You are brilliant at just facing what life chucks at you. Such an inspiration. ❤. Btw we have stayed at several sites with baths now. Lovely for soothing achey legs after a long hike. (Or for washing yer bumhole!)

I had better check my lpg tank now before we head off on our next journey. My wife (from Louisburg, Co. Mayo) and I are delighted that you are enjoying Ireland. This is why we show when things go wrong as if it helps raise awareness of things that can happen for others to be able to check and Neil says everyone should carry a good ratchet 😂😂 and Ireland has just completely blown us away! We both said we wished we had come sooner, but we would need years over here to see it all properly 😂😂
@@UrbanVanlife I moved over here from England 30 years ago. Only last weekend I got to go up to Malin Head, just a 2 hour drive up the road from home in Co. Leitrim.
Now that our van is back in top form we will be exploring a lot more of Ireland (and I thought I'd seen it all! 😅). Hope you both, plus pups, continue to enjoy your time over here 👍

The black pipe the is on the front is a snorkel . It brings fresh air in to the engine . If that’s the one you’re thinking which I think it is . There great for dusty sandy places as your getting air from higher up and getting less crap in to the engine

@@UrbanVanlife Well, I'm still here so far...BUT... it's not been noticed as yet though so there's still time :) I popped it on the roof of the van so it was stealth when it wouldn't be noticed! - watch this space - anyway... I gave it a go at the weekend, seemed to work well, nice compact size. The larger dishes seems to have faster download and upload though, I saw about 20 up / 45-75 down, but for the size for our van, and the power consumption, really happy... and the latency is very low which was super impressive. Have a great rest of the week, David 😀

Beaches and Mountains are where it's at....why would you want to go into towns😉😉....particularly just for content. In my opinion its much nicer to watch people do what they enjoy....otherwise it just becomes a travel channel.
We do love being in the outdoors and out spaces more than in towns to be fair as you get to see so many different things, and our experience of Ireland so far has just wowed us!!!

At lough Lannagh campsite you are right beside the lake also.. there's a little path to it directly from there. A playground and a large amount of outdoor exercise equipment across the footbridge over the lake.
Yeah it’s a beautiful walk I took the dogs when the rain went off, as little madam Dolly and cheeky chops Raven wouldn’t go in the rain, but once it went off I got them out and they loved it 😊 🐾🐾

We had the same thing happen to our gassed Range Rover again lucky fell off over night when we were in Cornwall on holiday! Cost us a fortune running on petrol to get home! Like the country mover than the towns. Keep doing what you're doing, if you are enjoying it, it's better to watch 😊
It’s horrible when things like this happen as it alters what you had planned doing massively, we love the country side more than towns as it’s more relaxing and some of the places are out of this world! Cornwall is another beautiful place!!!

Ohhhh noooo what a nitemare good job you spotted that before it started dragging on floor, atleast you sorted it guys. I love off grid upgraded our leisure battery this year to double what we had with our last battery never seen a bath on a site before 🤣🤣

We really appreciate your videos that are based on coastal / inland countryside / small hamlets videos. An occasional visit to small town museums or points of interest would not be amiss, though. In something like a 5 or 10 to 1 ratio, maybe?

Cheers bud . I was tempted to leave the strap on to be honest but then thought the steel we used was double the thickness plus having a recovery strap would at some point come in very handy

Why would you do something you dont want to do? people watch the channel for the content you are making. Loads of other channels do towns, and once you have seen one.... well you have seen loads. Waterfalls, rocks and sea are the best type of content IMO.

I enjoy the travel content much more than the gadget content and you both seem to be enjoying the freedom of the open road more.
As for whether you should stick to coast and country rather than towns and cities, my thoughts are stick with what you are both most comfortable with. As my old grandad used to say 'no point forcing the rear door if the front door is open and becoming you in' I don't really know what he meant as he only had a side door up to his flat, but he used to wink when he said it so I assume it was profound 😊

Well done Neil, it's times like that where you think i should of packed that. But of course you know if you had packed extra tools your never use them.
To be honest mate it’s made me think that we do need to upgrade our tool box to be honest . And keep some soair parts as well . What ones I don’t know but I think defo looking at what tools we carry will be a big thing when we get back . But I also intend on replacing both bottom ball joints track rod ends and wheel bearings
I carry a 10t rachet strap for towing, and if anything decides to fall off the van

We use to sell them but have recently changed our logo after getting a new one designed . So we will get some more done and soon as we do they will be on stories

I think that your cup of tea did the job and may have also stained that white hoodie lol. coastal is better but why don't you challenge yourselves to cook something that you really loved and enjoyed cooking at home you could do one day and then the wife the next. If you didn't cook then just get a takeaway and let us all enjoy it with you lol.

Hi ya, welcome to the madhouse and thank you for coming along with us, we have just spent some time over in the east coast direction we are around 6 weeks behind with our videos at the moment, but working on it! We are very sadly returning to England soon for prior commitments, but fully intend on coming back as we still have so much to see!!

Great job on the gas tank. Do what you want travel all over beautiful Ireland. But just stay away from the protests in Ireland as they look a bit nuts. So i would stay away from towns just for now. And injoy a peaceful van life.
Yeah we do tend to stay away for towns for the most part as we have both lived and worked in big cities for most of our lives, and it’s very sad what’s happening all over at the moment, we had to take a few days out to process what had happened so close to our home town! We will make sure to stay away from any dangerous situations ♥️♥️
