Cool shmup from Taito with a pretty rocking soundtrack, plus a rather nifty power-up system.
Instead of collecting different weapons and upgrades, you charge up your ship's primary blaster by collecting the tiny, pulsating balls that float onto the screen. You can unleash stored charge to devastating effect, creating a wide blast of plasma that disintegrates most things in it's path, or, if charged to the fullest extent, a lightning storm that obliterates everything on the screen. This is particularly effective against bosses, and the effect can be prolonged for as long as you continue to collect power-ups.
If you're looking for a cool shooter which isn't a total R-Type derivative, give Metal Black a try!

The first levels music struck a chord with me. Its starts depressing as you fight amongst the remnants of earth and then as you fight back with our last weapon hope shines through.

I love how the bosses also use the weird molecule like particles to their advantage, and they are not something that just benefits the player like other games

for an old game im amazed by the quality of this game,it has different feels from the other shoot em up games. The world and the lore seems connected with elder beings rather than some alien, this entity connected with human existence itself

Lots of the ideas in G Darius are in this game but its like a 'rough version'. Its cool to see what Taito could do with just some rudimentary
      scaling FX

You know, I think this game was indeed inspired by that movie. Why else would this game's "story" and atmosphere become increasingly surreal and psychedelic up to the end?

@@nobodytonobodysbusiness Yep both belong together. They may look very different yet they feel very similar. Senba Takatsuna was originally a Gundam Anime artist. That's why both games have an exceptional presentation on all levels. There went serious thought into both games. On of the fewer moments were a developer made sure he can realise his vision without any interference. And yes both OSTs are very special. They actually deserve the term soundtrack.
