Jack Flaherty over Max Scherzer. I get it though, Scherzer would be a one year commitment, but the Mets could use those resources in other areas of need. Scherzer is not the same guy who came into New York in 2022, so its important to keep that in mind.
I would rather Flaherty over Sherzer. But maybe Sherzer over Montas. If anything, we probably need another BP arm. Sign or don't sign Alonso, but we need to figure it out sooner rather than later. If not, we should probably try and get Bregman. If we do sign him, we should try and work out a trade and send Baty/Marte (Either/or) and get either a full time DH/OF or another starter (Castillo/Cease). Something like this would help a lot, in my opinion.
Listen he did a lot of heavy lifting to raise the profile of the club under the new owners and has to be remembered and thanked for that. He also went without any issues after being dumped, showed dignity there - but he was out of steam towards the end and proved it in Texas... No thank you - nothing against him but no thank you #LGM
This is why David Stearns is a joke. That they're even considering this is embarrassing. All the while he's shutting the door on a home grown talent that deserves to stay.
I have not been pro Stearns but I haven’t been anti Stearns. That said, it’s getting to a point where it seems like he’s purposely being a dick and either not making moves or making absurd moves. This is insanity.
Dude, your comments was the best I have read 😂 exactly how I feel. But, I think this is him he dumpster dives bc he was a GM at Brewers. He was a good for Coupon Wilpons not Cohen. He doesn’t know how to use big resources.

Depends on the cost. If it doesn't break the bank, I'm all for it. I think he could be a solid backline starter if healthy, and a positive influence on younger players.
Why would take a pitcher that will be injured during spring training and have a dead arm after the 6th start, then he'll give a press meeting why he's out no no no no please no.
If there’s any truth to this report, Steve take the money your savings on Pete and use it for a brain scan . And if your GM thinks it’s a good idea take him with you too.
It was almost as bad as the Glavine game against the Marlins with the season on the line. He was done, Scherzer is DONE, Verlander is DONE and Degrom was done awhile ago
No way ... good GOD! Please no. Over the hill..... period. Look, I like Max, I like his winning intensity. I did not like it when he pitched against us. Nonetheless, this would not be a good move.
The NY Mets made a stupid move spending $805 million dollars on Juan Soto for fifteen (15) years. They could have signed Corbin Burnes, Anthony Santander, Willy Aames, Jack Flaherty, and traded for Dylan Cease or Luis Castillo. The NY Mets should have let the NY Yankees sign Juan Soto for $750 million dollars. Instead Juan Soto got greedy and signed with the NY Mets for $760 million dollars, which include a $75 million dollar bonus.
This is very interesting. Okay, although Scherzer & Verlander disappointed when it counted most for the Mets, the Mets were still able to aquire Acuna for Max. Is Max Scherzer injury prone? Heck, YES. With that being said, the idea of a future HOF being part of a 6-man rotation, just might work. Now, if the Mets bring him back, it must be a 1 year contract ONLY. Okay, let's say his ego can't deal with Verlander getting more money than him in 2025, I would offer him a contract structured like this: 1 year, $15 million deal with a $12 million signing bonus (yes, do the Dodger thing), which would equates to a $3 million AAV. Now, the Mets should include performance escalators. Maybe once he gets to 10 starts, he can earn $500,000 for 10, 15, 20 and 25 starts. Also, give him another $500,000 for becoming an Allstar, Top 3 Cy Young, Wins a Gold Glove, Top 3 MVP, NLCS MVP and World Series MVP. So, if Max Scherzer hits on every escalator, he would turn his $15 million deal into a $20 million deal. Now, on the flip side, if Scherzer spent more than 30 days on the IL, the Mets have the right to void his contract. If he agrees to contract similar to this one, I would take a chance. LGM!!!
Schelzer did nothing wrong and neither the Mets. We were not supposed to be competitive in 2024… the Mets were just good and made a run for it. 2025 was the year to be competitive, and that’s what Cohen is doing. Bring Scherzer back on a one year deal.
pitching lab didn't exist when Max was on the team and the training staff was incompetent up until last season. I'd take a flyer on him if he takes the same deal as Verlander and we have like 4 guys to slot in behind him when he gets hurt.
This is not just any 40 year old. It's Max. If he's healthy bring it on.
