    I've had this FileHub for awhile now and I've been very happy with it. While searching online for a simular product this came up in the search results and thought I'd try it. As other people have said the app designed for it isn't very user friendly, I've found the FileHub easy to manage with other apps. Storage isn't a problem, as the manual states the FileHub supports drives up to 3TB, but I have connected drives with a larger capacity with no problems.

    Thank you very much on the detail instruction. I mainly use it as a router at my university though and it is extremely convenient in it small form factor. I bought it at first a few years a go for its external storage capacity but barely use it. It now found its new life as a router.

  • @CsSchoolwork

    Thank you so much for this thorough and comprehensive review! The video and the comments section have answered so many of my questions prior to purchasing the FileHub. My primary goal for this device is to back up my travel photos without lugging around a laptop. The back-up system on my last few trips has been to retain my photos on a series of SD cards, but also transfer the files to folders on my laptop (where they will upload to the cloud assuming I have reliable WiFi - which I frequently do not). This leaves me with two hard copies of my photos - on the SD cards and on my laptop hard drive (I can't count on cloud storage). I'd like to do something similar with the FileHub - back up my photos to an external storage device while also keeping the original copies on my SD cards.
    I've learned from other viewer's questions that the FileHub has no 'smart' capability to recognize the files it has already copied, so it will simply perform a mass "dump" into a dated folder. I have three questions about this process:
    1. Let's say I back up the files from SD card #1 to my external storage on the night of January 1st, but I continue using SD card #1 on January 2nd. When I re-insert the SD card and back-up my January 2nd files, the photos from January 1st will also be copied into the folder labeled January 2nd. At this point, am I able to delete the January 1 file from my external storage using my FileHub phone app?
    2. Let's say I back up my files from SD card #1 on the evening of January 1st, but then I remove SD card #2 from my dive camera and back that up on January 1st as well. Will the FileHub distinguish between the two different SD cards or will it create one dated folder and dump everything into one place?
    3. As I understand these SD card file transfers to be quite slow, I assume I will be performing my back-ups overnight while I sleep. When midnight hits, will the FileHub cease uploading to the folder titled "January 1" and create a new folder called "January 2"?
    Thank you so much for attempting my questions. I understand if you don't know all the answers, I'm just grateful to you for the time you've invested in helping others figure out all this technology stuff!

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks CsSchoolwork!. 1. Yes - but always double check!. 2. There should be 2 different folders with different folder names. 3. The folder name will be based on the date and time you start the backup.

    Excellent review/tutorial. For what it covers, no other TH-cam video is better. You are spot on about the manual, comprehensive but the poor English makes it difficult to follow at times, plus as you pointed out, there is valuable information that needs to be included. Like all RAVPower units, it would greatly benefit from clear step by step directions for each function since the device is NOT intuitive. Thanks!!

    Such a thorough review of this device.. saved video for later..
    Mine comes in Tuesday.. I was trying to find solutions to get more use out of my ipad pro & my gf's ipad air 3..
    The limiting file transfer options are annoying and the inability to use standard portable hdd's has been inconvenient. While the iPad won't fully replace a PC.. It may make a really great alternative to bringing a laptop if it has some more functionality of a laptop.
    Ipad life is a dongle life.. This Rav hub makes it a game changer for people like me.. my home pc is a Beast..
    But my laptop is a 17.3 in hardly portable monster of a laptop at 12lbs that doesn't fit into any of my camera bags that has a mega brick power block.. Sure it's a great laptop.. but Not fun for travel.. editinh on the go..
    This Rav hub definitely will help me greatly with traveling from backing up files to hdd's.. to being a media transfer hub to and from my ipad.. or being a base for me to stream media from instead of storing the files on the iPad itself.
    While transfer speeds are limited.. this thing is one hell of a device.

    I have 2 questions:
    1. I tried 2 apps from ravpower. One plays the M2TS perfectly, but without sound. The other app plays the sound but gives a stuttering video. Does IOS has the same problems?
    2. When I try the music, photo or video button, I see (on Android) that I need to load the file to Volume1/share. What does this mean and how can I do this? (The files are visible on the file manager).
    Update:
    1. M2TS can be opened with a third party app, by longpressing on a file.
    2.I found the 'share' folder on my hard drive. When I copy something to here, I can watch it in, video, music or photo button on the main screen of the app.

      @@TheTechnologyMan I took delivery of one today and I do not think it is sufficiently intelligent. It does not appear to remember (log) the files it has already backed up/copied.
      My routine is to use a single memory card for more than one day and to want to back up each evening. I have a memory card from my last holiday which contains files from several days. I backed the card up successfully. A few minutes later I backed it up again and expected it to establish that there were no new files on the card. Instead it created a new folder on the target disk timed a little later and started to back up the 91 files again.
      Last week I was on holiday for seven days and took almost 800 images. If we imagine I take 100 per day then on night 7 I will have 700 day 1 images, 600 day 2 images, 500 day 3 images etc. and by the end of the week I will have 2,800 files when I have taken 700 images (and need the space for four times the quantity taken).

    light flashes white. However nothing else seems to work including pressing the 2.4/5 g button for three seconds. Does the device not work while charging. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi, I purchased the Ravpower the other day for my girlfriend as her iPhone memory is full so wanted to transfer her photos to an external SD card to free up some space on her phone as she has 13000 pics on there. I am finding that the majority of photos say that they have failed. Will it transfer HEIC files across as they seem to be the ones that are failing. Thanks in advance

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - if you can see the files in the RavPower app or Files - they should transfer across - but the Photos app is an unusual one. You could check Automatic is selected under Transfer to Mac or PC in Photos settings. But my personal solution for backing up photos is using the Google Photos app which will automatically back them all up for free.

  • @paullewis3419
    @paullewis3419 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am using this only to back up photo files to a portable SSD. I have found the file transfer to be quite slow. This is not a problem as I can just go and make a cup of tea while I wait, but is this normal, and is there a way to optimise transfer speed?

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes unfortunately it is slow - I show some of the speeds I got in the review. At the time of the review I found using the RavPower app provided faster transfer speeds.

    so basically I connect the device to my comcast modem/router and my solid drive to the device and the Ipad will export wireless to the solid drive?so when the device asks you for password is your internet connection password or the device comes with an independent password?

    • @TheTechnologyMan

      +YAHUSHA KING If you connect with an ethernet cable to your router you don't need any password setup. I don't fully understand your question but I show setup in the video.

    Thanks for this excellent review, I've a question have you tried connecting a NTFS formatted hard dive to file hub and access the contents on iPad? I've read on various communities that
    Ipad os doesn't support NTFS drives and I've got three hard drives all in NTFS and I've tried various things none of which helps and only your video looks promising... please do reply

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! NTFS drives are supported - only the Filehub needs to support the drive - doesn't matter about the iPad since you're accessing the files through the Filehub.

    Thank you for your video. Is it possible to transfer say 100 raw files to the LR CC App with this device or is it only possible to transfer say 5 raw files ... and how long does it take ?

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - I would save the files to a folder within Files. Then add photos from that location. It’s around 10MB/s using the FileHub app so depending on the size of your RAW files 100 files shouldn’t take take long: (100x{size of RAW file}/10)s.

      I believe you can. Just plug a USB hub to the ravpower hub then you expand more USB for use for more ext hd. However, this will end up reducing and draining more on the built in battery on the ravpower hub.

      Only if you have an app on your phone that can read that particular RAW file format.
