Found several cycle lane traffic lights around Elephant and Castle centre which I thought were interesting to film. These mini bicycle traffic lights have been installed around London over the past few years. All these traffic lights were manufactured by Motus and all LED (including pedestrian signals).

Nice! Those are pretty strange and I can't say I have ever seen lights like that myself even though I did have an interest in traffic lights and pedestrian crossings for a bit when I was younger.

Very nice! Those miniature traffic lights aren't very common at all in the UK (to my perspective)! I haven't seen any of those around the West Midlands yet, the only place I can remember seeing miniature traffic lights was when I went to Nottingham in June last year.

Thanks. I've only seen these things in London and they seem to be becoming more common in the capital. It seems other cities are using them too if you've seen some in Nottingham. I'm going to try and film more traffic lights on my channel (look out for a poll soon).

I find it unusual why these cycle traffic lights have a cycle symbol on the red aspect; normally on 3 aspect cycle signals, the cycle symbol is only on the amber and green aspects and the red light displays the full roundel.

I think they've been changed just to make it clear the traffic lights are for cyclists and to not confuse other road traffic.

UK Level Crossings Channel I don't see how it could confuse other traffic with the full red roundel; the amber cycle during the starting amber period would be a warning to other traffic that the movement relates to cycles only, and only cycles can go when it shows the green cycle, just like when some traffic lights in the UK have an amber arrow in addition to the green arrow; to warn drivers that the lane relates to that direction only and must not be used for any other direction when the green arrow shows, but during the leaving amber period, unlike the cycle lights where drivers of other traffic would understand that it's only cycles stopping, the amber arrow confused some drivers, thinking it meant "proceed with caution".

@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel I've seen a bunch of Cycle traffic lights in Lincoln on one of the junctions (PEEK LEDs) and the red aspect also had a cycle symbol too. Maybe all the new installations on cycle traffic lights now have to have a cycle symbol on all 3 aspects?

Great video! Mini-traffic lights like that can't really be found here in the US, as the MUTCD only allows 8 inch and 12 inch lenses in use, but Portland, OR, (IIRC) has a few in use there, for some reason.

Thanks. Apparently according to Will, these mini cycle lights are used elsewhere other than in London. They are most popular in London as there's loads of cycle lanes around the city. The lanes are suppose to encourage people to cycle rather than use their cars but as expected, not one cyclist passed me whilst I was filming for 20 minutes.

The traffic lights are just for bicycles with is quite cool. You can find them in busy parts of London.

They're trying to make London more cycle friendly by putting in cycle lanes and dedicating more and more of the road to cyclists but in reality it's just causing more congestion. Interesting lights though.

Strangely not one cyclist past me whilst I was filming the lights for 20 minutes, sort of shows how much the cycle lanes are used. If I was commuting in London I would most likely be a user of the cycle lanes. The lights are becoming more common and I first saw them at Stratford. Going to try and film a few more when I go to London in the next few months.

It goes from amber to red very quickly! From what I've seen of London traffic, I wouldn't dare try those streets on a bicycle. (To be honest, I wouldn't try it with a car, either) That's why The Tube was invented......

I wouldn't mind cycling around London, but only on these segregated cycle super highways and not some crappy cycle lane which is in-fact a bus lane too. I agree driving is a nightmare lol
