  • Abandoned Trafford Park Tenax Road Level Crossing, Trafford Park, Manchester.
    Location: Tenax Road, Trafford Park and Ashbridge, Trafford Park
    Date Filmed: 25-11-2020
    Located near to the Parkway roundabout and tram stop on Tenax Road. This is one of a couple of a few remaining examples of infrastructure from the old Trafford Park Railway, which is a disused railway that sprawls across the Trafford Park industrial estate. The network dated back as far as the early 1900s, but since fell into decline in the 1960s and had been neglected by the 1980s. The last trains stopped in 1998 so the railways and crossings have been abandoned since then.
    A single railway line crosses a dual-carriageway road and two single-carriageway roads as part of a junction. This created a massive and very unique crossing which, as it stood on this date, had a total of eight halogen warning lights, seven alarms and two old halogen pedestrian lights. Most of the warning lights have faded borders and some bulbs and colour lenses are missing. One of the warning lights shown has light shades at opposing angles and one and another looks like its been hit. On another warning light, one of the alarms was dangling freely by its wire. This is one of the biggest and most unique abandoned crossings I have ever filmed and its a shame to see its been left abandoned and unused for so long.
    Thanks For Watching!

    I remember coming here once. Nice Video and Showcase! 👍🏻 Some of them ‘St Andrew’s Crosses still look in good condition.

    I won't mention that I use to work on the Trafford Park railway decades ago.
    Probably sick of me reminding you of that Jamie! 😂
    Great video though! 👍

    Those yodalarms look like they're in quite good condition and look new! Same for the equiptment apart from the wigwags!

    Very good video. Shame the crossing is in such a poor state with the lights being in a poor condition but the Crosses look fine.

    That's very interesting. The crossing seems ancient but it was in use recently enough to get "red man" indicators?
    I say ancient, Google Maps (map view) still shows the railway as being in place into the car park of the Trafford Centre (and satellite view shows they may have in fact just left the rails in place and built a car park around them, or just not re-surfaced the existing concrete).

      Red man indicators have been around for a while so it wasn't recent technology as such. These crossings date back to around the 1980s at a guess.

    An abandoned level crossing that you should go to is at Fosseway Lane in Lichfield. Previously there was half barriers but now there isn't

    They could re-open this line to the trams and leave the crossing equipment in...

      Why would anyone re-use this equiptment? Its knackerd, and the alarms are probably broken. Also, it wouldnt be safe for todays standards

    • @TheosTrainsWalesOfficial

      @@SouthWestCrossingsUK Fair do's. They could at least replace the equipment and preserve the old equipment somewhere...

    • @Soundersandbeacons
      @Soundersandbeacons 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @TheosTrainsWalesOfficial they aren't going to preserve old equipment for every rail asset in the world Theo. MK1s have no use now so they wouldn't even be needed for training as there are very few around and a centre/museum wouldn't get enough interest from the public. As for this crossing, most of it is broken.

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The crossing equipment is far from re-usable now lol. And anyway, regulations for tramways require the use of give way/stop signs or traffic lights instead of wigwags.

    A bit of eerie feeling about but there's lot's of wigwags on show, I would guess that at least two could be saved and preserved? What a waste to just leave them abandoned to fade, decay and fall to bits!

      There was so many just standing there, it was quite weird. Unfortunately, every light was still very much in the ground so no way of salvaging anything lol.

    Great video! It's a shame that freight rail has declined so much over there, that seems like it'd be a rather cool crossing to film if it was still active.

      @@UKLevelCrossingsChannel actually from what i've heard there were still some small scale operations on the TPR in the early 2000s.
      Also the short line running alongside barton dock road was used by container trains until late 2012.
