I remember.. I got the Snow Cat, mailed to me.. From my Aunt and Uncle. As a gift.. It was an awesome surprise!! I recall putting it together, like it was yesterday.. Many Arctic adventures were had!!
Also, a part of the review missing is that if you remove the rear piece, like a door, gear can be stored inside the hollow of the vehicle quite nicely, though admittadly might need to be shaken out depending on how how small it is. Its good for backpacks and larger rifles, and even Blizzard's ski's fit inside quite nicely, and if you ask me, this is quite a nice feature that sometimes goes unnoticed by GI Joe collectors or even kids.
Saying the box is just "cardboard" is like saying the figures are just plastic. It's all nostalgia. For some people, the box art and the feeling of holding the box brings back memories of opening that box as a kid. Some might even prefer the box over the figure.
+affoster79 I have seen the new Cobra version, but I didn't get it since I don't collect modern Joes. Well, with a few exceptions. I did pick up the Silent Strike set.
100% agreed about Frostbite's smile. :) He's an exception. Another expression that I really like is the archaic smile on Road Pig's face. He's "sorta" smiling. As a kid his face was the proof for me that he's just misunderstood.
A view days ago I found some old GI Joe figures in the basement of my parents house and took them home with me. I had totally forgotten how cool and great these toys were back in the days. Now I decided to start collecting all the old GI Joe toys that I had as a kid or always wanted but never had. After seen this review the Snowcat will be the first vehicle I try to get on ebay I think :) Thanx
@@christianhafer9819 Yes, I actually and seriously started a collection back then. I have about 100 figures in the collection so far and about 30 vehicles and playsets. I only collect Gi Joe Toys from 1982-88 though. Just bought a Tele-Viper 14 days ago. I always try to buy figures and vehicles that are complete and in good condition. I now have everything I owned as a child and much more besides. About 2 years ago I also started collecting vintage Kenner Star Wars figures and vehicles. Except for one figure (Lando General Pilot) I already have all of them. Since a few days I also buy vintage Gen. 1 Transformers. But I don't know yet whether I'll really start collecting them. But if feels good to have some of my childhood Transformers back at home :)
@@ganimed1976 Only a hundred? 😉 I've been collecting GI Joe's for only 2 years and have 187. Plus about 50 vehicles and playsets. I collect from 1982-1983-1990. Though, I'm only collecting the carded figures and drivers. No subteams like Python Patrol or Night Force, or anything like that. You should really think about getting some '89's and 1990. Ambush, is a spectacular figure for example. Alley Viper, Night Viper, Night Creeper, so other great ones. Just throwing it out there. TMNT is my main collection though. I have practically everything of that. The 1988-1995. Nothing newer.
After having owned the Tigercat in my childhood, I knew that I had own a Snowcat when I started collecting G.I. Joe again in my 20's. I always loved seeing it in the cartoon series and the comics. I lucked out finding a Snowcat with all of the parts loose and hardly any wear on it at all. Since I collect the newer G.I. Joe figures, I am thinking about getting a Snowcat made for the newer style figures.
The scope on the M16 is a PVS-4 early night vision starlight scope. When I was in the army 96-98 we still had a few of them in our arms room even though there were enough PVS-7 night observation devices (NODS) for every soldier.
Too angular? Jiminy Cricket! You complain for the sake of complaining. This vehicle is excellent. You weren't nearly as effusive as you should have been. Working windshield wipers? That's awesome! Yeah you liked it overall, but you still knocked some stuff. Frostbite is a superb figure as well. I have two Snow Cats and 3 Frostbite's. Some of my favorites.
Great review, really thorough. I have a few pieces of my childhood Snow Cat and I'm going to be looking in my parents' attic for the rest next month. Always loved this vehicle as a kid!
Tikifire's Retro Clubhouse Since I grew up in a region that didn't get a lot of snow, snow vehicles were not a high priority for me. I appreciate them more now as an adult collector. They're great!
I used to pretend the ski missles were like a remote defense type deal. I would set the up on the ground and pretend they could be launched remotely that way lol. Frostbite has one of the best sculpted heads to me idk if its just me but it is one of the best detailed heads of the original line
Thank you for the nice review. This is one piece that I never had the original of or the repaint of it called the tiger cat from the tiger Force series.
The first GI Joe vehicle I ever owned. In the UK they were still being marketed as Action Force. I loved it, and yes, the clips on my missile rack broke.
A friend of mine had this one but I never did. It didn't snow much In the part of AZ that I lived in and it was white so it stood out too much in the grassy plains of my back yard. I did love frostbite's M-16 though.
Yeah Hasbro loved ski misses. I guess it would be fun for kids sliding them down snow ramps. I’ve never seen any military attempt such a thing and it would be hampered by any brush or rough ground. On the other hand the pay load could be heavier since thrust wouldn’t need to be used to keep it airborne.
I know that something like this shouldn't matter, but I thought it was funny when they started loading up the figures at the end of the video, during the commercial, and one of the figures was Quick Kick. Because every kid's first choice of a soldier for an Arctic mission is going to be the karate guy that doesn't wear a shirt and walks around with bare feet.
Jason Luttrull I don't have the re-release. I'd like to see the differences between the modern and the vintage version. I'd like to know if they fixed some of the weak points.
Hey hooded cobra commander 788? Can you review the first version of airtight? If you have him? He was my first gi joe that I owned back in the 80s. I think he was released in 1984 or 1985. Thanks
The ski missiles are for heavy vehicles nearby or breached through the ice submarines nearby. It was an idea floated around during the cold War which went nowhere because they are impractical if you could just have high powered guns instead. It wasn't designed for attacking anything like a base. That's why there are only two. Why they are heavier than the rockets also helps them become surface to depth torpedoes in some rare occasions. Cool concept but ultimately impractical.
I just recently completed my snowcat, took me three snow cat bodies and buying all the accessories separate to do it. If anyone needs a snowcat with two skis and 5 missiles, the turret, and back door hit me up.
I think they should have called it a snow his..The Havok and the Red Alert should had been a vesion of the HISS tank also. The dominator and Razorback tank should should had also been a hiss tank. They all have similar design ques of the HISS.
Torpedo ski is great, it's deigned for kids and playability, like you see in a commercial at the end. In reall life it wouldn't make sense and it is a toy after all.
The last time I was in an arctic firefight, I was praying for a skii missile. It was butt cold , my car heater broke, the person two cars up from me, inline at Starbucks was taking a long time to place an order.
They (HASBRO) also re-released the Snowcat as part of the modern era line, around the time point between movies, but with a different driver (and maybe a different name?). Then a couple or 3 years AFTER that, they released it in a 50th boxed set, repainted as the Cobra Basilisk, in blue & red... Which really made ZERO sense.
G.I JOE'S one and only half tracks i wish hasbro would have made more half tracks them thang are cool as shit oh and thank for the weather update way to rub that in our face its like 0 degrees here in new york ...LOL great review hope to see more
Half tracks are great, versatile vehicles! It's surprising they didn't go to that well more often. Notice I said it was warm here "yesterday." Today it is cold and snowy!
as for half tracks go Forces of valor and BBI elite force make good 1.18 scale vehicles that go good with vintage and modern G.I JOES but as you might know they are not cheap but you can find good deals on ebay i not to long ago fund an m4 half track in the 1.18 scale for about under 50 bucks but the helicopters in that toy line go for big buck some where like in the 200 400 dollar range and about the weather it's still better then 0....LOL by the way did you do a review on the G.I JOE MAULER ?
no name here I haven't done the Mauler yet. It will take some time to do that one. As you know, it has some very hard-to-find parts and accessories. Believe me, it's one I really want to do. It will just take me some time to get a complete one.
This was one of my favourite toys as a kid. Fun fact, in 2004 Hasbro released a Transformer for the Energon line that was somewhat based on this called, surprise surprise, Snow Cat toys.tfw2005.com/snowcat-896
Slightly disappointed, HCC...Frostbite's surname and birthplace are unmistakably an "homage" to U.S. history...namely, (former Senator) William Seward being responsible for the Alaska purchase...cheers bro...and Merry Christmas

a great toy. i do think "arctic" is way too niche for the toy line tho. my only real complaints with this one is the color (the variation is a step in the right direction, but a jungle or desert camo would have been perfect). I also would have liked a different designation other than "snow cat". the driver is lame as hell. its a border-line top tier vehicle to me...would have made more sense as a quick strike, non-direct combat artillery unit than the arctic patrol/mid armor unit its portrayed as.

HCC, There is a polar bear patch that is used as Alaska Defense Command patch.
This review helped me identify the windshield wiper, I now have a complete Snow Cat, thank you!!!!
No problem! I'm glad I could help!
My uncle Pat bought me this for Christmas one year. Best present he ever got me. My aunt and him normally just gave me coloring books. Lol
I love how Transformers Energon homaged the Snow Cat with a character with a Snow Cat vehicle mode.
He was even called snowcat
One of the best rifles included with a figure. They recently did a cobra version of the Snow Cat the Basilisk in blue and red.

hahahah, same here, but it was the tiger force version
I can remember when and where I was when I got most of my toys years ago. I had forgotten about this one for some reason.
I would consider it more a ski torpedo than a missile.
You missed another Hama joke name. Seward, Farley refers to "Seward's Folly", the nickname given to the purchase of Alaska.
Interesting; gotta remember that...

Did you?
awesome review...to me the "ski missile" was more akin to a water torpedo but skied over the snow
