Thirty minutes in and had to take a break. Mr. Tutt drives a hard interview! Waiting impatiently for Mr. Johnston's third volume of "Prolegomena", have read everything else of his at least once. Just finished Kiorina Kordela's "Being, Time, Bios" and found its Spinozian corrective to Descartes very instructive. I highly recommend it alongside Johnston's work as exceptionally good explications of the matter, pun intended.
That's right, Mr. Johnston is not down with "panpsychism." The fact that he uses the term multiple times here in order to reject it seems suspicious. Is there some dualistic transcendence still hiding within "transcendental materialism?"
The analytic/continental divide in philosophy today is dead, and the only relevant question remains Hegel or Spinoza. And Hegelians have a difficult task of debunking Deleuze (and Guattari), something that Žižek is failing to accomplish, since he clearly doesn't understand Deleuze's ontology (virtual/actual, molecular/molar). If just a quarter of energy spent on interpreting Hegel, German Idealism or Lacan was spent on understanding the other side of the divide, philosophy would have much more important role to play IRL. Unfortunately, as things stand, philosophy is condemned to be just a vocation for Adrian Johnstons and Žižeks of the world, means for their income, in the tradition of Hegel (remember how he grabbed the opportunity to teach in Heidelberg while Spinoza declined in the name of academic freedom) and Lacan (who was charging dearly even for the shorter, 10 minute session).
Hegel today; people should stop caring about him and other word salad spewing philosophers. They have just about no value to add to the world, except for these niche "theory" circles that pretend to know what him, Deleuze, Derrida and other weirdos are saying

Dope video. Almost attended UNM's graduate phil program, would've loved to have taken a class with Dr. J
Almost?? What happened?
Very interesting - I like his respect for the natural sciences.
underrated channel.
Algorithm's fault? Or has leftist attention on TH-cam just changed flavours?

Some talk of historical events; much name-dropping and 'who disagreed with whom'.
Nothing on the ideas.

spinoza is an integral part of the hegelian edifice (substance-wise) - but otoh hegel's output basically tanked after he took that job.
Nahum brown has a great comparison between deleuze and hegels modal theories (in relation to leibniz) in “Hegel on possibilities”
First
