Not a copy. Its a Paul Reed Smith - Silver Sky. It was designed by PRS and John Mayer. Yeah, it looks like a Strat body and a PRS neck. That's what it essentially is!
Mark Lansing I actually did know what it was, this was a reference to Gibson’s latest round of “Let’s Sue Everyone, the Play Authentic Edition”. This is the round where they sue companies like Dean guitars (over guitar designs, some of which Dean has sold for 40 years) and the toy company “Funko” because, I kid you not, the guitars that their licensed characters of Slash, Gene Simmons, and others look sorta like Gibson’s... and they claim it could cause consumer confusion. The toys don’t have any brand markings and they aren’t correct in scale, hardware, etc. Hence the joke that anything that might resemble something Gibson has on their guitars is lawsuit fodder. 😏
@@stoneycarter6429 My biggest influence is McCartney and I mostly write and play stuff similar to his work in the Beatles. Don't think I need to slap for that lol
I saw Victor Wooten with his solo band, basically his brothers. Regi Wooten is a guitar slapping fool. Otiel Burbridge sat in bc it was in Birmingham. There was a whole lots slappin goin on.
Jealous. I just saw Victor live last week actually, and saw Regi solo years ago in Nashville. That family did something right because they got slapped with the talent genes for sure.
LOL I used to play that game a ton back in the early 80s, in the arcades. Always tried to dig a straight path up to one of the boulders with as many bad guys waiting underneath to get hit by it as possible. :)
Are you sure it is a triplet? Kinda sounds something like a nintuplet (not sure if spelling is correct). Or are you using an odd time signature? There just is something of about the timing that I can’t put a finger on
Phil McKnight! Always saying he sucks at guitar, then comes flexin with the lesson video!! Awesome stuff man! Can't wait for the full review of that silver sky.
thanks phil really love this. If only wish my gf was as responsive as a strat. But I'll keep right on go'n ahead an slapin up a storm anyhoo if only a strat could get in the kitchen and make us a sandwich us guys would be one happy pappy's ... an i right? ...... yeeeaah.... DAMN RIGHT

I can slap really well on my air guitar. Not so well on my real one though
Im confused. What kind of setup you do to your air guitar?
🤦🏾♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sameeeeee
At least you can act
Been playing for 40 years and that is like magic to me. I'm terrible at it.
Rick Romanelli Ditto. It is foreign to me. Love the sound tho
Davie504: confused screaming
I just watched many technical players try to explain this in there examples and tabs and your like the first to ACTUALLY EXPLAIN THE SLAP!!
Davie504: I WANT BASS /SLAPP

He's got a video where he slapps on a guitar
This video is cursed lmao
Great to hear the ins and outs from a bass player who also plays guitar. Thanks for this, Phil!
I counted 6 strings & 6 tuners...clearly a Gibson copy. Great video otherwise. ;-) #GibsonsGonnaSue

@@philipwpartain Thanks! That's new info to me. Now I get your joke!
And I'm primarily a bassist who cant even slap on bass! Haha

I'm a bassist , for 30 yrs and i Hate slapping. It's sounds like amateurish claptrap to me no matter who does it.

One of the clearest explanations of this technique I've seen - thank you!
Damn that silver sky sounds so clean ugh and it's in the best color
@@pejoarda772 better that one than an ehem authentic broken one lol
Slap? You mean Tosin Abasi noises?
No it's Chris Brown noises
Thanks for sharing the slapping technique. It will take some practice to get it down pat but can come in handy when you want to play some funk.
Thanks Phil. The slapping technique definitely changes the guitar sound and vibe. Very interesting.
This is soooo cool! Such a great technique for spicing things up. More like this please!
One of the first things I did when I picked up the original Ibanez Universe. Great video Phil
Oh noes! Rob Scallon lost his hair
LOL!
Way beyond my skill level, but excellent lesson. I understood everything, even if I'm not capable yet. Good stuff.
Video seems much higher resolution the before! Great job as always Phil. Thank you and - Know Your Gear
Fitting to use a Silver Sky for a riff that sounds vaguely like John Mayer's "Neon"
Wow. This video is great. Great playing, good instructions, and super short.
I have never thought about slap on a guitar. Looks like a fun technique. Cool video!
Man that was cool...I remember getting the hang of this technique years ago..it was like I woke up one morning and I was doing it,lol!
Thx for the video man, simple and objective, with great professionalism.
Hey man good video, quick and to the point. This is something I've never done and I see how I can incorporate it as a changeup.
learned how to slap midway through the video. you are a guru

THIS IS EPIC!
Nice Phil satisfies my bass shadow
Great video. I've been wanting to get into guitar slapping. Thank you.
this is so cool . i`ve never even thought of slapping on the guitar and i have been playing for 30 years
Hi Phillip. Thanks for the lesson. Do you use an special efect when you are slapping?
How cool....I have always wondered how it was done. THANKS!!!
Nice one Phil! Great video and good tutorial 👍
Good looking Silver Sky. Is that the “Tungsten” color?
Yes it is
Great lesson! Love that style. Thanks
im defiantly gonna practice that this weekend

Yes i noticed how good you were with slap guitar ever since i watched the kaizen video
Great info! Very helpful!
Informative video, thanks Phil. You guys should check out the Jared Dines and Rob Scallon version which is just a total funny crazyness :-)
Dude u explained so damn well u look like charles berthoud teacher.
i loved this video
You Rock Phil!
great lesson , i wish you would do more video's like this one
What is that killer blue semi-Hollow with the p90's on the wall?
Sounded like the "Dig Dug" arcade game there... 4:25

Was not expecting the Silver Sky for this episode!
This is great content please keep it coming!
Always wondered about that! Awesome!
Kool! Thanks Phillip
Does this work on acoustic?
Now do you have the arthritic hand method too
Great job buddy
Is that standard tuning?
For a bass player you play guitar good Phil
That’s gool
what is the name of your guitar?
Are you sure it is a triplet? Kinda sounds something like a nintuplet (not sure if spelling is correct). Or are you using an odd time signature?
There just is something of about the timing that I can’t put a finger on
I have never been more excited to watch a video on youtube
What about slapping acoustic? 🥺
Great 6 strings Bass
Does the guitar matter? Im using a custom 24 and it seems kinda small in string space for slapping
I know what I'm working this weekend!!
*abasi* *intensifies*
What part of my thumb do I use?
What was the song you played at 2:25?
Funny I did some funky stuff slapping on one of my practice vids last night. Lol
I have trouble slapping the 5th string... Do I mute the 6th and 4th strings with the left hand? Because I keep ringing them
Gracias, buen tutorial 👍
This is good.
that's a cool technique...thanks for the vid ;-{-)
There are times when recommendations work.
What's a pick?!
but something that I still dont get it? do I "punch" the string against the freatboard?
Why does your BASS have 6 strings? Weird.
The perks of being a bass player too

You play it like you were born to it. Sounds cool, but I'll never have the patience to practice it...
Can you send a tab please
And they say that bass players wish they were guitar players...

very impressive but can you..... wait, wrong channel
Gibson is going to sue PRS for copying the Fender Strat.
Way to much slapping on the guitar. Hell way to much slapping on me by my wife when I mention a new guitar. STOP The SLAPPING
