Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for June 23, 2024 - Mark 4:35-41
Jesus Commands the Storm
Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 95
Alleluia: Lk 7:16
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
A great prophet has risen in our
midst God has visited his people.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel: Mark 4:35-41
And on that day, when evening had arrived, he said to them, “Let us cross over.” And dismissing the crowd, they brought him, so that he was in one boat, and other boats were with him. And a great wind storm occurred, and the waves broke over the boat, so that the boat was being filled. And he was in the stern of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, does it not concern you that we are perishing?” And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and he said to the sea: “Silence. Be stilled.” And the wind ceased. And a great tranquility occurred. And he said to them: “Why are you afraid? Do you still lack faith?” And they were struck with a great fear. And they said to one another, “Who do you think this is, that both wind and sea obey him?”

Sunday, June 23, 2024 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.
Reflection: How do you find peace in the storms of your life, and do you turn to Jesus for calm and reassurance?
Prayer: My sleeping Lord, as I endure the many storms of life, may I always have faith in the saving power of Your Cross and Resurrection. May I always call upon You to calm the storms and hear You speak to me the many truths I need to hear. Jesus, I trust in You.

A wonderful message to ponder over! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could encounter the trials that those followers of Christ encountered in real time! The early birth of faith in Christ, at the least must have been challenging when encountered one after another in those early travels. To take in the many miracles He performed along with a message of clarification to the law which the Jewish leaders distorted as blasphemous to the faith, those must have been confusing times indeed. I guess I am fortunate to be able to read the Gospels and discern a message of truth by those who underwent the actual events. It matters not which gospel you read, the bottom line is still the same, we have been forgiven through the selfless gift of crucifixion and life eternal through the resurrection! The message here is that it has been offered to us by confession, baptism, and a rebirth in faith. It is God who desires our repentance and if we desire be one in our faith, then it is we who must surrender ourselves into His loving arms. We all have a cross to bear because we are all sinners. It is through our repentance that the weight of that cross is removed so that we can live our lives in fulfilling the will that God has for us. Proverbs 1:7 says all that needs to be said, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." We should not fear God, but should have a respect and reverence for who He is in our lives. Recognizing His omnipotence in our lives is the beginning of wisdom. We have had two thousand years to "evaluate" the Greatest Story Ever Told, and the truth is we are not much better than the Pharisees were at it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Has anytime in history ever embraced this most simple commandment that we were given? I think not.🙏💖🕊🕊🕊🕊
