The 'real' future we're living in now is very dismal Halium, and has a lot more in common with some of the worst aspects of the 19th century just under the surface illusion of modern technology, unfortunately. The 'future' was in fact the distant past of the 1950's, 60's and '80s. (The '70s, no.)
