Nah. If you knowingly and willingly punch someone, you have no right to complain when the same person punches you back.
Honestly, it was like the friend came begging for that revenge punch by asking for OPs help.
Edit: I do not mean this as an excuse for hitting someone or something similar. This is about knowing that all actions have consequences and it is on us as adults to be responsible for them. Literally one of the MOST important things about being an adult.

Despite being completely cleared by the police his name had been in the media with the accusations and the stink and shame ruined his teaching career. Casual accusations like this are despicable and must be challenged immediately.

Her showing up to demand an apology from OP is nothing more than stroking her ego. Op should never have apologized to her, especially if OP's family is now taking ex friends side. I ran into an enormous bureaucratic excrement show taking grandchildren to Disneyland ten years ago when they decided to play hide and seek in the overpriced hotel and one got lost in the basement laundry. I have to admit it was an excellent hiding place. The problem was when she fell asleep until after the staff had gone home and locked up.
Seriously, even with the documentation and easy contact with her parents it was an expensive challenge to pry her away from California's Child Protection Services. Bureaucracy gone mad, with a month between court dates and social workers who ignored the judge's order to return her to me. Stay away from the USA while travelling with other people's children, because they assume every adult is a potential abuser.
Besides, Disney is a waste of time. You will spend a lot of time and money for the privilege of standing in lines all day. You can get the same thrill pretending you have to renew your drivers licence.
