That video was way informative. That is the first time iv seen a specimen with gold that is fully visible. Awesome
If you use a metal detector or a pointer, you can save a lot of time and sweat. A pointer is much lighter than a larger detector.
Exactly Becky. He keeps throwing away pieces 2 in thick that could hv gold in. A metal detector and pointer is for sure what he needs
Would a spot like this be worth building a small mine into to see what happens with that vein further into the mountain?

Living at 9000' in altitude in Colorado and going offroad for hours then finding a mine in the middle of the most rugged extreme terrain is beyond impressive for the dedication and the hardened people who built them, and like you were saying alot are not on any map, I came across a Chinese drift mine 2 years ago and just beginning to explore the ground. Can't wait until we melt off snow in about a month or so more! Wishing you all the best and thank you for excellent adventures and knowledge!
It's wild stumbling across test pits and whatnot out in the boonies, I haven't personally come across any old mines just yet (I did find what looked like a portal with a rock pile nearby on tunnel drive, but didn't enter it because it could've been a lion or bear den and the area is notoriously crumbly) tons of test pits just out of town though. While I don't usually find mines or paystreaks often, I do love looking at my boots after a long hike and being able to spot a flake or two of gold stuck on them.
Always cool bumping into some "local" people online, might bump into ya in the royal gorge region someday if you're ever down here. I'll shoot ya a sub and see if I can't learn a bit more about the geology out here in CO.
@100GTAGUY very nice, test pits all all over up here, as everything except for a few mining/residential are all thar is available, if you can find available. Actually one of my board members has some land in Royal Gorge and hope to hit the Arkansas River sometime down there! Will touch base when we head that way!
I remember reading about how old timers used to plant multiple quartz floaters on the base areas of a spot that would possibly fit the bill for a vein as a deception to keep others away from what they found and off searching the set up area. The pump fake has been in use far before basketball came around, lol.
I live in Nevada and I could take you to heaps of quartz outcrops that are massive and highly mineralized. I used to work for a large gold company and your video makes me want to start prospecting again. I still have all my gear and gave never lost the fever!

I use a 7x aspherical magnifier with an LED light. Gives me enough magnification to overcome my reduced eyesight and then some...

I used to believe that Jesus is the savior till I read the Quran cover to cover in 2016.
I finally made my shahada about 10 months later. The Quran makes a lot of sense but the trinity didn't.
Praying to the saints didn't. I was Catholic and encouraged to pray the rosary.
Pretty sure he didn't want to talk about religion. To each thier own. I don't care what anyone does or what they believe in, but I can't help but kinda take issue when a person is basically telling someone else that their religion doesn't make sense at the same time as telling them how their own religion does make sense, especially when all the 1st person was just basically wishing a separate person that they will be well and that their God will be kinda looking after them. (That's how I see it anyways.)
Personally, I don't really believe in "God" exactly. I believe that there is A LOT that we don't understand. And also who knows what people back then exactly were referring to when they refer to "God". I don't want to say it's aliens.... but... it's aliens..... kidding.... maybe.... I also tend to believe that both the Bible and the Quran were written by people.... and people..... well, they can suck. I think it'd be a very hard temptation to resist for anyone writing the literal handbook that would guide a whole religion of people, to not write at least some things in the book in a way that would be more in line in a way that the writer would think he get some benefit or political purpose. A good example is how some parts could get, uh, removed. Tell the whole thing, ya know? I also think that people can deliberately misinterpret the texts is ways that better suit thier agenda. Because organized religion is probably the greatest form of control over people. Undeniable. I also think it's Undeniable that as society drifts further away from religion, the worse off things are. Except in the middle east, the shit is ALWAYS hitting the fan over there. What's with that? Am I an infidel? What do you do with infidels? Hmm, which religion doesn't make sense?
Thought exercise, can you imagine what would happen if a person like David Copperfield or some other naturally skilled magician were alive back then? You think that a person like that wouldn't be called a God? Or worship him or something?
Anyways, I do believe that there is some kind of energy within us, (soul? Maybe.), and that maybe that energy within us casts an aura that some people can see or sense. And that something happens with that energy when we die. I just personally don't really think that there is some all controlling being that essentially relegates us to being his "ant farm." I just like to think of us as more than a hobby for a all knowing, all powerful, all controlling Supreme being. But who knows?
See? It kinda sucks when someone just start talking about things you weren't really talking about and kinda wondering if your religion change may not have been..... anyways. I don't care what other people do or believe in, but when the 1st guy is just withing someone we'll and saying Jesus will keep him safe (or whatever), maybe just take that for the kind hearted gesture that it was, realize that is getting more rare these days, and not take it as an invitation to try and convert someone. You converted? Cool. Good for you. Maybe not everyone wants to hear about how thier religion doesn't make sense and that's why you converted.

Interesting stuff, being prospector (placer gold though) myself... i've ran into few quarz veins on my time and have taken very close look at them always. How ever it is very hard to figure out what to exactly look for in the veins this vid helps ... if in nothing else, but atleast motivation to keep cracking the quartz.

Always pulling for you in the videos but especially like the field work. I'm a placer guy but I'm really intrigued by the vein gold,.....looks like hard work though. There's a lot to be said for sitting atop yellow iron and making smoke.

I live in SW Washington, so it looks like I need to head up north a little bit and try and find some of those good areas like that to look around and maybe even do some panning as well. An excellent video Jason....I have a similar spot on my claim with a 75' - 100' drop almost vertical to the creek below. I have been happy working the creek and finding gold, but I might start looking at the quartz outcropping at the top of the cliff, it's big...about 25' long and about 15' high, covered in moss ....lots of mineralization in spots but I only have about a 3'-5' ledge to work to work on, so I'll Safely try to get some samples next year.... Great video.. Most informative one Ive seen on finding color in a quartz vein. Ive always thought to look for a vein of gold in quartz and may have been passing up small nuggets.

Nice video Jason.Thanks for sharing.I got a MD 20 falcon gold detector no so long ago and I've found that it will detect pieces even smaller then the sort of pieces you unearthed .Not only that, it does have some penetration thru quartz .I reckon it may have been a really useful tool in that situation .I feel pretty sure it would have detected some gold in those quartz zones.Just food for thought,

Super video! You make a good point about not getting hung up on one spot. I found float which lead to a 4 foot wide vein on my claim! Havent explored enough to determine mineral content though, but there is micro placer gold in the area, and it is quite coarse. Lots of ugly quartz in smaller veins, very red quartz along with a soft red mica, and flaky black mica, and some fine grained grey/silver mineralization all in the same sample. Wish I had a crusher!

I've seen these kinds of veins in Texas, growing up and hiking along small cliffs near creeks.

Jason - I'm amazed you carried all that gear out there man. I just had a similar trip last weekend and was doing the exact same thing. It was hard with just a 3pound hammer, chisel and mini shovel haha! Thanks for explaining the difference between the hanging wall and footer wall. That's really cool to see you find visible gold in western Washington. I've spent a lot of time in the hills and mountains in Washington and I walk past many quartz veins. I'm not always looking for gold, bu when I am, it's hard to stop and believe that one of them might actually have visible gold in it, especially when I go by so many that must be barren. It helps to have a lead like you did, but I'll have to be more thorough in my examination in the future.

It’s good to see a miner finding shiny while he explains the process he is usingn, really good teaching moment for me as a novice. 8 years underground but in the coal seams in eastern Utah. No Gold. Seams of yellow resin of course.
