So dope! Yelawolf was basically my introduction into rap! Yea I listened to Eminem prior to knowing who Yelawolf was and even had CDs but I didnt seek out more artists or anything! From a white boy in Los Angeles into the 90s-2010s punk rock scene it was Yelawolf who bridged that gap for me! The crazy white boys collab with travis barker and Tim Timebomb Armstrong from Rancid and Yela was my baby steps into rap! Now i rarely listen to any of my Punk music anymore! I think Mountain Dew Mouth or Just the Intro collab with Cassidy, are the ones to sell Flawd on Yelas ability to hang with the best! Then he can get into the rest of his catalog and theres a shit ton of material to react too!
He did a rhyme scheme starting with "Dust we about to kick up." and carried that through till "Say something fly or zip up"
It's popular to hate Joe now and he honestly brought it on himself but Joe's pen game is absolutely legit. Dude owned the underground mixtape scene in the early 2000s. Mood Muzik 2 is a classic, I don't care what anyone says. The whole MM series but vol 2 especially. Dumb Out is still one of the sickest tracks I ever heard.
I love Joe Budden. He is potent as fuck. Em is more complex in what he does, the variety, the sharpness and how he connects things so well on so many levels. But Joe is potent in what he says. He perfectly phrazes insights, his words are sharp and he craft emotiion as 2pac - Em also does this though.
Both also are great at painting pictures and telling stories.
I wish slaughterhouse stayed together and came out with more music. I can't think of a more lyrical group.
Yelawolf is a fire artist, not just a rapper, a very talented all round artist. His music is crazy definitely worth taking some time and checking it out, you won’t be disappointed.
