I was at a concert in NY (i think around 2002) where Em and 50 were headlining. Eminem was on stage and this song started up. Out of nowhere, Jigga walked on stage and they did the whole song together. The crowd was going crazy, prob one of the best concert moments I have experienced.

I have listened to Eminem every day of my life since the 00s - I'm 32 now, I have all his CDs, singles the lot... His music has gotten me through everything I've been through... People say he fell off - Nah, he just doesn't have the rage anymore but the passion is there... His lyrics just hit differently.

People seem to forget that perspectives, values, beliefs, emotions, and everything else, changes as we grow older. It kinda makes me think some of the people that bitch about how he’s changed can’t understand that he grew as an artist and father, because those people either didn’t grow, or didn’t grow enough. So they want their favorite artist to be like they used to be, because they can understand anything else.

This song is Eminem’s originally. He wrote it (the beat too) for himself and Royce originally. Royce couldn’t be on the track for some reason, and Em gave it to Jay. Jay had it for years - with Em’s verses already written - before he put it on The Blueprint. So Renegade is really Em’s track. It’s amazing tho!

With Em altho his verse is spectacular lyrically it's still about him, its about the underdog who was dissing everyone and as a result was being hated on by everyone for being extremely controversial. With Jayz he is not just talking about himself he is talking about every person (not just black) who is from a marginalised community or have had a hard life, hell some of the lines in his lyrics apply to Eminem too. That's why it's more relevant, it touches more hearts, it is more relatable. But it is not as great lyrically. That's why I think it's a tie.

I still vividly remember the days that I bought the Marshall Mathers LP the day it came out and Eminem show the day it came out. I have vivid memories of blasting those on the way to basketball practice. I had to rush across town, to get to the CD the day they released, and back to practice in time😂
I also have a vivid memory of when the blueprint released and me freaking out when I saw that Eminem and Jay Z finally had a song. Only to realize that it was going to be some of Eminem's best verses of his career. 🤯
But I also don't think that m&m killed Jay Z on this, I think Jay Z did his own thing. But I'm biased because they're both two of my favorite rappers of all time. 🤷

14:45 "like how do you even think of that" Flawed is right when he said this verse could only happen at that point and time. You have to remember what Em was going through at this point. He was SUPER famous in a time that would ruin someones life to get a scoop or a story and hebhad the whole Bush administration after him for his lyrics. This song was like venting to those unique circumstances and im glad they recorded it.

This song was my annual most listened to song on Spotify for like 5 years straight.
It is just two of the GOATs at their peak, with a cold beat, cold message and 4 cold verses. It ain't normal how good this track is.
To me this is Ems best collab track which is insane considering no love, drop the world, forever and all that shit.

I'm someone who likes to dissect lyrics and understand them on every level. It's pathological for me, I don't even mean to do it, it just happens naturally. I've loved this song since the day it came out but honestly, somehow, never understood it fully until watching this reaction to it. Love ya'll for that. You always catch me when I'm slippin.

I remember hearing this song for the first time at a rave in the hills outside Los Angeles in 2001 right after it dropped.. we were all rolling and Mind LITERALLY Blown. Especially the timing of it.. if I remember correctly this was Jay Zs Blueprint 2 album which was in-between the Marshall Mathers LP and the Eminem Show.. there was a lot of comedy in both Eminem's first two albums but this was amazing. Like he seriously understood the bigger picture of what he was doing. Crazy.

"I drove by the fork in the road and went straight" means that Jayz grew up in the hood and he described in prior 2 verses how bad that life was and how many ways he could fuck it up but he saw that possibility and decided to not go down that path and became a successful rapper. genius

Y'all make great vids. I do follow you on Rumble but I'm old, hella old and I forget, LOL! I have such a habit of going to TH-cam, even though it sucks now. I'll get back over there.
