Great video man! I also switched from Fujifilm to Nikon, and I'm very happy with it! I have the same lens set up, and I also added the 50mm f/1.8 s to my kit. Such a sharp and amazing lens. Still waiting for more compact options because that is the biggest thing missing in my opinion (and I miss the aperture rings). I don't miss film simulations too much because the raw files are quite easy to edit! Looking forward to more content, subscribed!
Yeah, this was a bit confusing lol. Nikon and Canon are longtime industry standards, with Sony coming in strong third especially in recent years with many models being leading in some aspects. Maybe engagement bait? Oh well, still enjoyed his take overall.
@lee.ronin.photography what industry lol university of you tube maybe. nikon was always a photo centric company that didn't cater to videographers its only up until recently with mirrorless taking over dslrs they were forced to come out with compelling hybrid cameras. The whole potato thing was like one meme one time 5 years ago. Probably from some sony fanboy. Even with there photos first dslrs the video they could do always looked fantastic.
There are some shooters from other brands who have made the potato joke. This is not new. I shoot Nikon and some of my friends who shoot Sony say the same crap.
I love my ZF too! ...except for the screen, would have preferred the Z7 II flip up or dual flip of Z8 as I never shoot vlog style to need that articulating. Flip up is where it's at for photography. But...the rest of the camera makes up for it. I really have gotten used to the handling without a grip as I usually have the Z 50mm or the smaller primes on and it works well with those lenses for me. The images that come out of this are just great. I had been a Fuji user primarily but sold most of that gear off (just am scratching my head at Fuji's decisions lately) and only kept the X-E4 and the small f2 primes when I need a "nearly" pocketable kit. I hope with the future firmware for ZF we'll get some improvements in the interface to add custom modes (C1,C2,etc) to allow me to create more custom picture profiles with unique WB to have some similar film looks. I have several I use now but I have to manually fiddle with settings as I want to use each.
Good video! I've been using my Zf for a few weeks and I love it! I think Nikon went with the fully articulating screen, at least in part, because you can flip it over and enhance the retro camera look and experience, especially when shooting in full manual using the dials. As a photo shooter who was initially concerned about this design choice on the Zf, it hasn't been an issue for me.
Grip. I started doing Photography when the Nikon F2 was announced. Back then cameras didn't have grips, what you did was use BOTH hands to hold and adjust the camera settings. Because back then the only lenses that did NOT have an aperture ring was a pinhole lens. I'll also note that we also used neckstraps and usually set them up so that a cross body carry put the camera right at your hip. Because cameras were expensive and dropping them usually meant purchasing a new camera and lens. I see someone walking around with a camera held with just one hand and I can only think "Stupid is as Stupid Does", one of the most thoughtful statement ever put in a movie. BTW I agree with you 100% on the 26 and 40mm lenses, have both and they are wonderful lenses. Hot Tip, get the 50mm f1.4, it's the finest 50mm f1.4 Nikon has ever made and I have had every variant. Second Hot Tip, google "Nikon Picture Control" and spend some time surfing the sites that come up. When you do you'll find there is a lot more that can be done with the Picture Controls than you are aware of.
Nice round up of your impressions on the Nikon Zf. I’m also contemplating buying a Nikon Zf as a Fuji shooter. And I also wonder about giving up on film recipes. But more so I worry about the lack of the joystick, cause I use it all the time to move my focus point(s) around. So how was the experience for you to move the focus points on the Zf? Does the touch screen work well for moving the AF points? Or did it feel gimmicky. I’m asking cause you addressed the fact that there is no joystick but mostly for menu handling. :-)
@@franknelissen8041 I was worried about the same before moving over to Nikon. I don't miss it as much as I thought I would (still miss it though haha). Moving the focus point is just not as quick as with a joystick. I do think the better AF performance compensates for this though. It allows me to use a bigger focus area, and trust that the camera will focus on the right thing within that area. And it does 90% of the time. So I still miss it, but it is no way a deal breaker for me
Great review!👌 I’ve been pondering about buying the Nikon zf for ages and I’ve recently sold off my Fuji xt5 camera but I’ve still got my xh2 cameras and xt50
If Nikon would release modern versions of the aperture ring AI-S lenses in Z mount I'd buy a Zf in a heartbeat. In the meantime, X-Pro3 keeps my interest. The screen was a second pain point. The flip up (or flip down a la X-Pro3) would have been a lot more appealing.
You touched on it some but do you notice a strong difference in color from Fuji to Nikon? Specifially skin tone? I'm considering switching to a Nikon z6 iii. Thanks in advance!!
This is awesome dude! I’d love to hear your comparison between the zf and the gfx! I know they’re different but it would be neat to just see the difference!
I did take my GFX with me also to Italy. There are quite a few differences - the amount of detail, and how much highlights and shadows you can save with little to noise on the GFX is insane
Have gotten my hands on both the ZF, and the Lumix s5ii, and I gotta tell you, the s5ii is a better camera in every way you can imagine. Except for the photo/video switch on Nikon, which is a convenience to have. Oh and you can shoot photos in Log on Lumix, something nobody has done to this day.
I have the S5IIX myself, mainly for video but I do use it for my wedding photographer. I much prefer the Nikon ZF for my travels due to the retro design and the overall fun factor!
Nice location (Dolomites), nice models and a few nice picture examples. Unfortunately, more than a year after the Zf's launch, the "review" itself adds zero new info to the many dozens already out there on YT and does not even attempt at looking at things differently.
I believe it's valuable to consider other photographers' perspectives, regardless of the camera they're using, even if it's considered 'late' in the game. My main point is that any camera can capture great images in the right hands. Whether I'm using a Sony, Canon, or any other full-frame, APS-C, or medium format camera, the final result wouldn’t be any different. It wouldn't make me a 'better' photographer, but it could make certain aspects easier depending on the situation. Ultimately, if you don't think my experience and captures offer anything new, you're only wasting your own time. I hope you find someone who better meets your needs. :)
@@lee.ronin.photographythe YT algorithms have a big say on what videos pop up when we launch YT, so, of course, we see stuff that we were not specifically looking for when logging in. Same for everyone else I guess. You invested many active hours in producing your video, I only invested a few passive minutes accidentally watching it. I realise how disproportionate that is, but it is hard to decide before watching any video how relevant it might be. I enjoyed the scenery and many of your pictures but I felt the desire after watching the whole of this one to react to encourage you to go beyond the obvious on next ones in the review bits (or be much earlier in the game or maybe focus on the "how to" of your good pics rather on redundant descriptions of a well known device). I nonetheless wish you the very best in your influencer journey I fully agree with the first part of your response.
The image quality of the Nikon Zf is indeed excellent.
Sold my X-T4 and X-Pro2 to get the ZF. No regrets!
Let’s go!!

This is the only place I’ve seen Nikon referred to as a potato
Haha thank goodness! But it’s definitely a meme in the industry.

I'm actually glad they didn't put a joy stick on this camera, you'd be taking away from the retro fill of this camera.
May I ask whats your strap for ZF? Thanks
The strap i'm using is a custom leather I bought from a friend!

If you want a retro style buy a film camera. From L grips to screw in shutter release buttons to make the camera easier to use. What's the point?
I shoot film also :).
