  • In Persian, the term Shah Cheragh roughly translates to "king of the light." It's a fitting name for the glittering mosque in Shiraz, Iran. The building, adorned with shimmering multi-colored pieces of tile and glass, is considered the country's third most important pilgrimage site. It functions as a a funerary monument, a mosque and a beautiful holy place for thousands of worshippers.

The people who are making hate comments about this beautiful masterpiece of Persian architecture are full of arrogance and their eyes are spoiled by fear & anger.
But i bet that even those haters would have been forgotten their impulse to abuse for a second because of the magnificent glimpse of this human heritage.

There are not around 60,000 jews living peacefully in Iran from when you wrote that comment (2017) according to the virtual Jewish library Iran had an estimated Jewish population of ~ 8,500 as well as that Iran does not have the highest Jewish population outside of Israel that goes to the US which as of 2017 when you wrote that comment had a Jewish population of 5.7 million and according to the Jewish virtual library Iran does not even fit into the top 15 nations with the highest Jewish population there are not 26 UNESCO heritage sites in Iran in 2017 the world atlas reported that Iran had 22 UNESCO world heritage sites altogether not 26 sites and in addition Iran does not house more ski resorts than the combined total of south America according to nevasport Iran had 6 ski resorts in 2014 whereas for mainland south America (the countries where which data was available those being Argentina Bolivia and Chille) alone had 54 ski resorts alone which means that south America does have more ski resorts than Iran not the other way using wikipedias list of active synagouges in Iran there was a combined total 65 synagouges in Iran (not 15) and Tehran alone held 34 of the synagouges (not 8)

From the gorgeous patterns of the tiled surfaces, to the mirrored surfaces that dazzle the eyes and enchant by the sheer complexity of the play of light. *Story of Shah Chirag* :
Shah Chirag (King of Light) is a title given to Ahmad ibn Musa (Eldest son of 7th Shia Holy Imam Musa al Kazim & a Great Grandson of Prophet Muhammad)
Ahmad was not Iranian, he was born in the holy city of his great grandfather Prophet Muhammad "Medina", which makes him an Arab. During those days Shia Muslims and Syeds (descendants of Prophet Muhammad) were being killed by Abbasid Caliphs for being against corruption caused by Caliphs
Many Syeds migrated to other regions leaving their forefathers land for saving their children, and Ahmad along with his other siblings migrated to Iran to meet his Beloved Brother, 8th Shia Holy Imam, Ali ibn Musa al Reza (whose shrine is located in Mash'had, Iran) who was forcibly taken away from Medina to Khurasan, Iran by the Abbasid Caliph Mamun al Rashid
On the way to meet his beloved brother, Ali al Reza, Ahmad received the heart breaking news of the murder of his brother Imam Ali al Reza, who was poisoned by Mamun al Rashid
Ahmad and his siblings along with other family members and companions grieved a lot.
Ahmad and his caravan was surrounded by a large army sent by Mamun al Rashid to kill them.
Ahmad and his other brothers fought 4 times bravely for saving themselves from Abbasid Army but 5th time he along with his another younger brother (possibly Muhammad) was assassinated
His body was thrown down the hills.
After some days, some women saw a light coming from a place at evening, they got scared so they informed the village elders about it
One of the old scholars there, after seeing the light said "Indeed, that's the King of the Light"
When they got near there, they saw a body uncorrupt and fresh, on the hands of the body there was ring on which was written "Blessings and Peace be upon Ahmad, son of Musa al Kazim"

I hope to one day see this mosque with my own eyes and return to the land of my birth. Sadly with war between America/Saudi Arabia/Israel and Iran looming, I fear that holy sites like this will be destroyed and gone forever. Salafi Muslims of Saudi Arabia will not allow any shrine like this to stand. Where any sane person sees incredible beauty and divine inspiration, they see hatred, death, and evil because it was built as a tribute to holy men (saints) and thus HARAM (forbidden) in their twisted and sad version of Islam. My heart breaks thinking about way happen. Most of my fellow Americans do not want war with Iran. We have no quarrel with the Iranian people.
