Totally agree, their products are awesome. ive got 3 of their lights and two of their stream decks. its just the wifi chips in those lights that is frustrating. I think "they were not thinking" about the advancements to the wifi standards when they selected the wifi chips they wanted to use. and possibly not enough testing was done. since back in those days when we were all on 2.4Ghz alot has changed. I have noticed now days, that bandsteering has improved alot. its still a little bit finiky but the ability to bind 2.4 and 5 together and have a controller manage and bridge devices to a network has solved this issue for alot of people. I bricked the firmware in my synology rt6600ac router there last week, the lights worked perfectly off that, and now I am using the wifi from the fritz box my ISP gave me, and I got back into the same ballpark as you all, messing with wifi setting just to try get them to connect again. They will need to update their wifi chips now that we are in the era of wifi 6

The video addresses the issue of Elgato Key Lights not connecting to a Windows computer. The solution to the problem is to temporarily downgrade the computer's Wi-Fi card to 2.4 or 802.11 abg. Once the Wi-Fi card has been downgraded, do a search for accessories and the Key Lights will be found. The issue is related to the fact that the Key Lights only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and not 5GHz Wi-Fi. Exactly, well said krachtcoach. But one thing to keep in mind. The overall connection setup requires support from both the os and the router. The reason the os fix does not work for everyone is down to the way the router handles combining the two frequencies. For example WiFi 6 and 6e better manages band steering then the traditional and first iterations of WiFi 5 mmio. Provided the router tech bridges the signal. Hi, i bought a pair of them and received it today, but i'm strugling to connect in my PC, even after i followed your instructions. I'm getting desperate right now is there a posibility to discuss with this matter further ?
After countless tries, restart of PC, Router, Lights - I finally manage to do it: so, get your PC on the same network with your Iphone, go to setings on your Iphone and connect both your lights from your Iphone - once you done, they appear on your PC aswell. Gl
Interesting. I "downgraded" my connection to 2.4 GHz. Before the control center detected the light but failed to connect. Now, it doesn't even detect it. I even reset the light and restarted the router. Do you know why?
Hi Alberto, hard question to answer, as it depends on the advanced configuraiton setting of your router, but in general, with people who are using bandsteering on their routers, (joining the 2.4 and 5 gHz frequencies into one SSID) in these circumstances the issue that I am addressing here in this video has nothing to do with the wifi or the router where the wifi is broadcasting from. In the video here, I am modifying the wireless network card on the computer that will be used to controll the lights. If you want to go down the router trouble shooting route, then disable 5gHz all toegther and only have a 2.4G network. and see what your results are. The lights only work with 2.4, so if you decided to not use 5gHz at all, "which would be a shame", then your probably going to see these lights work (unless the problem is infact something else). You can try reaching out to Elgato tech support but this problem is an issue i feel might be to advanced for even their front line support to fix, your going to need to talk with a technical support rep who really knows what they are talking about. Id be happy to have a shared screen remote session to take a look see if i can see / help. But in general, as a dude who has worked in IT for decades, I train and teach people to never accept remote sessions from strangers.
@@AsidsTechTips Thank you. I disable 5GHz and it didn't work for a couple of times. Then, I managed to connect the light to an Android phone, just leaving it try and retry. The, it magically connected to the PC. It didn't seem so, but after a restart I found the light in the control center.
It did not work! What is drives me nuts is that both lights are showing up in add accessory box. The only way this is happening is that the network is picked up the light. When It asks me what wi-fi network I want to connect to, it will not show my home network. I went as far as to try it on my other computer and even my phone. All three are doing the same thing. They have the light in the "add accessory" box but will not show my home network. I have no clue and they work great before.
Yeah so this is exactly what I explain in the video. The problem is the lights wifi chip. When you see the lights on all 3 devices it is because they broadcast a wifi signal which the devices see. To get them onto the network and functioning you need to downgrade your devices wifi signal to the same frequency the lights use. 802.11 b then add them. Put the 5g back on your wifi chip and hope for the best.
This could be due to different network settings. Make sure your IP and Subnet are the same when on wifi as on wireless. Sometimes depending on your router config you might end up with a different 3rd octet on your ip. Make sure your wireless network and your wired lan are have a bridged nat.
hey man, once I changed to "2.4GHz 802.11b/g" my WiFi hasn't been able to show up on PC since then. I can see my WiFi on my Apple devices but not my windows PC now. I have no idea how to fix this now that I have made this change & my lights still aren't connected, can you help?
is there a way to reverse those changes we made in this video with my PC not being able to see my WiFi Network? for example, can I now go from "2.4GHz 802.11b/g" back to "6. Dual Band" ?
This light drives me nuts. Bluetooth would be better. And, it should at least have a manual brightness and color temp dial. Got it 2 weeks ago and have now used it at 6 different filming locations. At each location I had to spend between 10 to 50 minutes just to get the stupid thing to connect through WIFI.
i gave it 1 star bc you have to have 2.4 ghz networking all of our networks at the office and cellphone is 5 ghz network. I just bought mine today and now upset bc I cant even connect to it. Changing the networking effect other items using wifi.
i have a problem i dont find a solution i connected my keylights via phone and now on my phone they are able to controll but on my pc it say no device in your network
Hi Shadow, not sure what you mean. the lights are wireless, there are no ethernet ports on them. for the sake of this Ill try keep it simple, lets say "like most" you have router, it is this device which you create the network on. (Network) the next element of the network is how to connect devices to it. and your options in general are wireless and wired. does not matter how you connect once a device is connected to the network, other devices will be able to see it. Like currently in my case, my lights are wirelessly connected to my network but my PC here which controlls them "the controller" is wired. The problem above is the initial connection of the lights to the network. once they are connected, devices "wired or wireless" will be able to see and control them. The fix above showes my initial problem finding the lights "back in the day" on a computer that was also wirelessly connecting to my network. the Lights require a 2.5 Frequency. so your (Wireless Router) which also is the device that hosts your network, must broadcast 2.5. The issue is we live in an era of 5.0Ghz. Most routers now days support a consoladated dual band switching mode, where the broadcast includes both 2.5 and 5Ghz. so as seen above, I temporarily limited my wireless laptop to 2.5Ghz to see and allow me to connect the lights to the network, after that all was fine. Once you get the lights connected, if you wire up, you will see them and if not the solution to add them is simple, you just check your routers DCHP leases, ID the IP of the lights, copy and past into the elgato control center and off you go. Hope that helps.
Ah cool it worked for you. I could not recreate the issue, after the fix for me my system kept recognizing them. I'm happy this helped you, thought I might me the only one.
@@AsidsTechTips From what I've read from ElGato's support on their official sub reddit you only need to struggle through this when you set them up. Afterwards you can even connect via ethernet and still control your lights despite not being connected to the wifi network you configured them on.
@@AsidsTechTips Thank you so much! I didn't have an issue before, but I changed my router and this happened. I was able to easily connect my light to my phone using the app, but was at a loss for why it wasn't working on my pc. The problem IS the key light & Elgato actually. The fk'n thing is literally connected to my laptop via USB for charging - why the fk can't it connect to control center via USB & direct connection to my laptop? Why is WiFi the only fk'ng way it connects? If I'm going to stream using them, I don't want my WiFi bandwidth being wasted by a fk'ng light.
I just bought 2 and they will connect to my network then disappear. I have to actually connect to my Mesh wifi from my PC..which makes no sense. That means I am connected to my wifi via ethernet and my own local wifi...makes NO SENSE.
Hey One, I hear you, I hear your frustrustration. but your being to blunt, I need extreamly detailed descriptions if your asking for my help. WiFi did not connect to what, How many networks do you have, what do you mean by original network. what exactly did you do.
This thing is the biggest piece of shit ever. Why they would do this drives me nuts. They should have at the very least put a physical button to control the light, having to change your entire network infrastructure to use a light makes me want to jump out of my window lol.
This can happen when 892.11 a B and g are disabled. And they csn be disabled in rare cases by default on newer devices that prefer a 5ghz connection. Another setting that can cause this is a setting called BandSteering where a wireless network combines both 2.4 And 5ghz. What happens here is the first request from a device to the network is received on 2.4 and the network moves it automatically to 5ghz because it thinks it can handle a faster transmission. An ugly work around here "if band steering is the case" is to seperate 2.4 and 5ghz into two ssids and then bridge them via nat. This way both networks are connected together and devices that are only 2.4ghz compatible such as the lights can talk with devices that use the faster 5ghz network. The only down side is you will end up with 2 wireless networks.
I just want to say thank you to you all for your comments. I am so happy that I have been able to help so many people with these "frustrating" but cool accessories. and to all of you who have not been successful in your attempts, I am sorry. its 2024 and were still having these issues. 10K setup and all my issues are with elgato software and hardware. Their products look nice but man they are garbage.
sadly this still didnt work for me. such a shame an issue like this comes along with such a simple product.
And such an EXPENSIVE product as well. How the hell does this light not just come with a remote or manual controls on the back? It's absurd the amount of issues EVERYONE has with this product for the price they charge.

i tried to roll back to 2.4gh / b and g etc. tried all 3 options. but my streamlight just won't connect =_= its so annoying. why pay all the money to elgato, when the light is just not user friendly... omfg...
This helped so much thank you.
Thank you so much! This was driving me crazy!
I wasn't aware I was going to need wifi on my PC to have this done. Sadly didn't have it built in and now I'm left with either needing a wifi adapter or adding a laptop to my setup to do this. I've tried the mobile app and it just spins forever. Absolutely awful. I will be giving your solution a try as soon as I spend more money to do so.
Once the lights are connected to your lan, wired devices will see them.
You can use your phone.
@@AsidsTechTips I get that loop on my phone you described. It will not connect to my device :(
@@BiffMcSkylark if every option fails. Then it's time to hassle tech support. And man are they going to have a hard time solving the issue. If they do. Be sure to let me know
@@AsidsTechTips I contacted tech support, I've tried EVERYTHING. My key light was working last night (and for the past year and a half) and when I unplugged it to move it it needed to reconnect to the network...Now it cannot find my network. -sigh- Tech Support literally has no idea what to do.
Hi, i bought a pair of them and received it today, but i'm strugling to connect in my PC, even after i followed your instructions. I'm getting desperate right now is there a posibility to discuss with this matter further ?
yes. email me, Asidscript@gmail.com
Did the trick for me. Thank you so much.
how do i do this on mac?
Thank you! This worked for me.
you are a life saver THANK YOU
I use ethernet, how do I fix that?
Yes, it did help. Thanks!
After countless tries, restart of PC, Router, Lights - I finally manage to do it: so, get your PC on the same network with your Iphone, go to setings on your Iphone and connect both your lights from your Iphone - once you done, they appear on your PC aswell. Gl
I'm not so sure this is ONLY a router/network card problem. It worked on one light but not the other? Any suggestions? Anyone?
Honestly Elgato needs to make a psysical light controller
@@AsidsTechTips try you at 3:14 and it killed the wifi.
it works, but when I plug my ethernet cable it stops working rip
This could be due to different network settings. Make sure your IP and Subnet are the same when on wifi as on wireless. Sometimes depending on your router config you might end up with a different 3rd octet on your ip. Make sure your wireless network and your wired lan are have a bridged nat.
hey man, once I changed to "2.4GHz 802.11b/g" my WiFi hasn't been able to show up on PC since then. I can see my WiFi on my Apple devices but not my windows PC now. I have no idea how to fix this now that I have made this change & my lights still aren't connected, can you help?
this is somewhat urgent as I run my business from my PC, would really appreciate a response!
is there a way to reverse those changes we made in this video with my PC not being able to see my WiFi Network?
for example, can I now go from "2.4GHz 802.11b/g" back to "6. Dual Band" ?
I did this it worked but I can’t get it to go back now🤦🏽
what do you mean, "Back"?
@@AsidsTechTips to 5G it’s ok I’ve worked it out. Thanks lights are all working
Thanks a 100 for this but I was wondering is there a way to get this working on Android?

This light drives me nuts. Bluetooth would be better. And, it should at least have a manual brightness and color temp dial. Got it 2 weeks ago and have now used it at 6 different filming locations. At each location I had to spend between 10 to 50 minutes just to get the stupid thing to connect through WIFI.
WPA2 + WPA 3 didn't work on my router I switched to WPA2 + WPA2 or AES that worked. otherwise the light wouldn't connect
Love ya Brother thanks for the easy fix. good stuff.
i tried this and mine won't connect any tips?
What do i do if it still does not work?
Thanks for the tip
Worked perfect. Thank you
This has helped me! Thank you!
Thank you, it really worked!
You are very welcome Franco, I am glad I could help. Take care amigo.

Je pensais pas te voir ici ! C'est à mon tour d'être dans la même galère ahaha
i gave it 1 star bc you have to have 2.4 ghz networking all of our networks at the office and cellphone is 5 ghz network. I just bought mine today and now upset bc I cant even connect to it. Changing the networking effect other items using wifi.
anyone know the solution if you have 802.11 ax/ac/n
Why these products!!! 200$ and shitty products. Put some buttons on the light. Why complicate it!!! So sad.
i have a problem i dont find a solution
i connected my keylights via phone and now on my phone they are able to controll but on my pc it say no device in your network
Have you followed my instructions in this video on your pc?
Can You do it with ethernet cable ;)
Hope that helps.
rebooting the router seems to work too
Thank you
I advise everyone against buying Elgato Ring Light. I'm having the same issue and for this price, it's ridiculous.
Probably going to just pack these things up, send them back to Amazon and get GVM's version. This is straight bullshit. What a colossal waste of time.
Thank you very much!
@@Leowulfs sounds good, can you share the source of that info with me pls.
@@AsidsTechTips Thank you so much! I didn't have an issue before, but I changed my router and this happened. I was able to easily connect my light to my phone using the app, but was at a loss for why it wasn't working on my pc. Every time I tried to connect, I lost internet access for a brief second whilst it searched but the result was always fruitless. Once I changed the internet settings though it worked instantly!
I did what you say and it doesn't work. I'm very grateful. It's really annoying to make an investment for something so difficult.
Any solution?, still can´t connect it
See my new comment, maybe this will help you
Hell yes!!
I just bought 2 and they will connect to my network then disappear. I have to actually connect to my Mesh wifi from my PC..which makes no sense. That means I am connected to my wifi via ethernet and my own local wifi...makes NO SENSE.
Perfect! TY
thank you!
I tried this and it still didn't work -_- for some reason i can see them on my phone but my pc doesn't see them
I really wanted this to work but my Wi-Fi didn't reconnect after I switched over and it wouldn't let me connect to my original network.
Hey One, I hear you, I hear your frustrustration. but your being to blunt, I need extreamly detailed descriptions if your asking for my help.
WiFi did not connect to what, How many networks do you have, what do you mean by original network. what exactly did you do.
My elgato keeps flashing. Even after I did reset it doesn’t stop when it’s on
This does not sound normal, I'd call support
So I did this and lost connection to my Wi-Fi….. please help
Thank you so much
Mine won’t even cut on cause it’s a trash product
I'll be returning these lights. Very expensive and they want me to drop my wifi to 2.4. No way...
Even this didn't work for me.
This thing is the biggest piece of shit ever. Why they would do this drives me nuts. They should have at the very least put a physical button to control the light, having to change your entire network infrastructure to use a light makes me want to jump out of my window lol.
I downgraded to 2.4 and my network doesn't show up anymore :(
This can happen when 892.11 a B and g are disabled. The only down side is you will end up with 2 wireless networks.
did not work for me :(
the same thing,, maybe it's hardware flaw
Give them a review please! only way to get things changed
This didn't fix my issue sadly
:(
