    If you can find one that use foot pedal instead of hand crank, that's a whole lot better. Cranking these things by hand, you gonna be cussing by 5 minutes.

    I'm still wondering why there are few , actually almost none, indoor bikes or gym spinners that have this king of generator integrated. I guess for a 30 min workout you could get a good enough charge. Or maybe even have 2 or 3 such generatore serialized 🥰. Nice video 👍🏻.

    I just got this today and I tested on charging my phone, it's quite easy to crank while charging phone but if I plug in any other USB device it's getting hard to crank like it will have heavy resistance then suddenly no resistance... And it keep repeating.
    And I also try connect it up to a power inverter and run a 5w LED bulb and it sort of works.
    Overall I think it's a good product I think I will buy another 1 :)

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The bigger the load, the heavier the resistance you will feel while turning it. I noticed it as well once I tried to charge a larger power bank with it.. its normal

    Very interesting although the hand crank configuration could be improved with the bicycle movement or at least provide holes so you can tie it up on a tree or something and even extend the length of the crank arm.

    • @user-tr2dh4xx6u
      @user-tr2dh4xx6u 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. Bicycle movement,
      This sounds like a good idea but the device would have to be larger.
      2. Needs rotary motion so idk how holes to tie to a tree would work
      3. Longer handle could work if you change the gear ratio to make it harder to crank. Adding a longer handle would add more torque but less speed

    I have some radio/ light combos that have solar and crank generator capabilities. The power is stored in a Metal hydride power cell, can charge cell phones that have USB, C capabilities
    The lights are powerful LEDs, the radio part has AM,FM, Weather Band capabilities. These came in handy during a severe winter storm event in which I lost power for quite a while. I ❤ these things. I ❤ your device as well. If you can put the power from your unit into these power cells, you would have some light,etc. for quite a while. ❤

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is the only one I have, I have seen bigger units, ones with pedals where you can charge via the pedals instead of a hand crank but those cost a whole lot more.. like around 200 bucks.

    • @adventureinlife7700
      @adventureinlife7700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Iridium242 Yeah same here. I've seen a few foot pedal ones as well. Usually it's the K-TOR Power Box that shows up and yeah they are $200 and more. What surprises me about the Survival Crank Generator you reviewed is that it can produce the same 20Watts as the K-TOR Power Box but at a significantly lower price tag. Shoot with a little DIY custom building one could mount the Survival Crank Generator to a sturdy pedal rig and voila you'll have a much more versatile setup with the same power output and likely still be less expensive to the K-TOR.

    I haven’t seen these before I will consider getting one I have a portable 110-220 generator but electricity could be out for days it would be useful for my electric wheelchair cause it can deplete of power. I don’t think you need to charge the car battery because it needs to be jump started with the spark plug then running the engine with gas charges it back up again. I’d definitely worry lots less with one for emergencies

      ⚠️Reminder about generator safety: This is a very important announcement for everyone just to make sure:
      1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards.
      2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house.
      3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules.
      4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords.
      Hope this helps. Thank you. It’s important to follow all the generator safety rules whenever you use your portable generator.

      The ones that go in the water to charge phones can be lost when the current changes and it will drag you're charging device into thew after. The cables on them are also very long to reach out of the water and you loose power the longer the cable. It would be ideal to redirect the water using a PVC pipe, placing the hydro generator at the end

    2/3/19 Walmart is now carrying it for $39.99 with free shipping. I have a question before placing my order. Do you see by looking at it how one would connect this to the back wheel hub of a bike?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The back of the unit where the hand crank is, has a metal pole sticking out, you could easily put a gear on it and run that gear to a chain on a bike. The unit itself is small enough to mount almost anywhere with the chain connected to it.

    I'm planning on buying an inflatable raft and getting a troling electric motor for it to ride around the lake with and was considering buying one of these to have in the raft incase the electric battery dies/to charge it with but it sounds like it wouldn't be enough to do that and I'd be cranking for hours just to get juice out of it for such a purpose correct? They basically use something like a car battery.
