      I have this fantasy that cities could build human power generators where you walk up and push on a horizontal handle connected to a generator.
      It would be a functional symbol for what people can do when they choose to co-operate like a new kind of electric church.

    You might want that longer handle once you put an actual load on the generator beecause more force will be needed in turning it to counter the back-EMF generated Also, since it requires one hand to turn the crank while the other hand holds the unit, it can be easily operated on the edge of a table or countertop.

    Be aware the USB port is not separate from the output connectors which means if you select any voltage, that will also show up on the USB port. Ensure you have the voltage set for 5V or you may destroy the USB devices you wish to change.

    Wonder if you could rig this, or a few, to be craned by attaching to an exercise bike, or regular bike on a stand...

  • @theirisheditor
    @theirisheditor 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I'm surprised there are not any exercise bikes on the market that use a generator for resistance instead of magnetic or friction based resistance, at least not around here in Ireland (or UK). With a generator that could power a TV or recharge a laptop, I'm sure it would work well to encourage working out, even if the electric bill savings is negligible. Like this hand cranked generator, it would provide power during a power cut. Being pedal powered would also provide a lot more power, probably around 100 to 150 watts based on one TH-cam video showing a DIY pedal powered bike powering an old CRT TV along with a few incandescent light bulbs.

    ******Maybe someone here can help me*****. I bought this for emergencies. I tested it out the box due to a coincidental power outtage when it arrived. I wanted to charge my phone. I set it to 5 as it says everywhere to do. I cranked for 30mins desperate to charge my phone and all it did was continue to lose power. The phone said it was charging but just kept dying. I've tried it on several devices since then and it's the same story and there's like no info online about this issue. Any ideas? Or ideas for a fix?? Side note. On devices with more than 50% power there is more resistance, but its not consistent!! Sometimes it slips like it's charging a dead battery then goes back to stiff again. Thank you for any potential advice!!!

  • @Inkling777
    @Inkling777 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have an older version of the K-Tor "Power Socket" hand-crank generator. It is U.S.-made and rugged, but it unfortunately illustrates the problem with hand generators. It's a lot of effort for a little result-1 amp USB output cranking like mad. The makers are right. Fifteen minutes of cranking will charge an iPhone well enough to make a quick call. But I did some calculations. Fully charging it would take almost an entire day of cranking. There's also a core problem with hand generators. You can't do much of anything else while hand-cranking. A bicycle-like generator is better. It leaves your hands free for other tasks and legs can generate more power than arms while getting less tired. The company that made my hand generator does make a sturdy pedal generator called the Power Box 50, but at $395 it is a bit costly.

    I'm in NC and might need something like this if I was on grid. You never know I may need one anyway if they are no sun for a while. I have a 18 v drill I'm thinking about making ga 5v charger from it. Use a buck converter and use it to charge 18650 batts to power my phone charger. I can just put a handle in the Chuck. I have seen times I'd like to had one!

    It would be better to have this thing driven by the legs. Getting even a small amount of power out of a hand-cranked generator would be exhausting.

    Many companies manufacture this same type model with different names. The best one so far is the one made by HYDDNice. Is this one made by them or is it a knockoff?

    I have to admit I have a new respect for generators. I spent about a hour at the gym peddeling. To generate power. And only generated enough power to light a low wattage bulb for 30 minutes. And I was peddling at supposeadly 20 mph! A grid tie inverter and a exercise bike with a generator great idea...charge ppl to come in to generate power for you! Awesome!!!

    Aghhh, It hurts me to say it, but this review was kinda sloppy and in general, not very useful. Why there was no actual test with a load?? Can this thing keep the voltage stable, when you power something? Also, when you connect a load, the force needed to spin that motor, would be much greater and you will appreciate the long handle. :)
    Cheers

      @@biff322 Definitely just to charge battery pack and then use that battery pack to power up various electronics (within reason ofc :) )
