    I have a question if you’re able;
    What is the experience like when you are converted to Christ(when you get converted how do you know it’s a true conversion)?
    Should a Christian usually have a conversion story?
    I’ve heard it said that a true convert was ultimately always converted by the sovereign choosing of God so that there is no such thing as “going from not-saved to saved”. Do you agree with this saying?

      @DogSoldier1948 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically, there's not some sensational feeling, but you will notice a change in lifestyle. You will seek God, and your conscience will guide you through the Holy Spirit. It's a process of sanctification throughout your life that guides you to becoming the image and likeness of God. That process will be completed when you are glorified after your physical death.

      I would add that the realization of your election may be experienced by the individual Christian along side their new belief and after being regenerated by the Holy Spirit…but generally not in some theatrical way.

    • @marjieyoung9570
      @marjieyoung9570 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jay. Most people do have a conversion story, but some don't. Some people were so young that they just don't remember. The saying, "There's no such thing as going from not saved to saved," sounds like it's in the territory of hyper calvinism. There is a moment of regeneration and conversion that occurs; a moment where we pass from spiritual death to spiritual life. This is true even though election and predestination is also true.
      The question about the experience of conversion and how we know it was a true experience is answered by the fruit we exhibit in our lives. When we are saved God takes our old hearts made of stone and makes it flesh; He takes our old rotten dead selves and makes us alive in Christ. Before conversion we had our own pet sins we enjoyed, had sins we minimized and excused, had sins we even worked to justify ourselves in order to clear our guilt if we were plagued by our conscience after all else failed. Before conversion occurred regeneration occurred and we became sensitive to our conscience pointing a damning finger our way. Then someone came along or we read our Bibles or some other divine appointment God had ordained happened and we became aware of the Law of God, and of our sin and guilt before an Almighty Holy God for violating His Law (laid out in the Ten Commandments). This is a terribly excruciating moment for us because as we become convicted we are filled with contrition. This means we emotionally beat our chests filled with deep sorrow and regret for our crimes against God. Depending on the person they could be immediately converted at that point, or they may take a little while to come to Jesus. It's different for everyone.
      When conversion actually happens and we decide once and for all to throw off our old disgusting sinful lives and follow after God (aka repentence), we spiritually bow down to God and humbly confess our sins to Him and ask for Him to forgive us through the substitutionary atoning sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. This fills us with joy and peace because we know we have been reconciled to God. I wouldn't say there was no sensation as one person said. It's deeply emotional. But it's not like a choir of angels appears or some other validating vision. But for a new creation in Christ it is emotional and I personally felt brand new. It's emotional to think about even now and that was 35 years ago.
      One way we know we have indeed experienced a true conversion is by examining the evidence suggesting your life has changed. All the sins you used to love and that used to give your happiness will no longer make you happy. You feel very guilty when you partake in them and desire to be free of it. This can happen in degrees as you learn and grow as a christian. You will have a deep love for God, His Law, His word, and His people. You will enjoy listening and learning and growing in your knowledge of God and your faith (though it is true, some speakers can't ever be fascinating regardless of your spiritual state). Your favorite people will become your brothers and sisters in Christ and you'll want to be with them. You will hunger for the truth and word of God. You'll worry that you aren't really saved and contemplate your sins and be bothered by them. Unsaved people don't tend to worry about that. A new Christian should be growing and moving forward in their Christian walk. They don't become sinless, but over time they do sin less (aka sanctification).
      Getting a firm grasp on the meaning of 2 Cor. 5:21 will help a Christian struggling with doubt. Many times it's difficult for people to really understand salvation is a free gift of God. We think we need to bring some type of good works to the table. But the Bible says even our good works are nothing but filthy rags. We have nothing we can offer in payment for salvation. It goes against the human understanding and nature. We think we need to bring good works into the equation or there's no deal. 2 Cor. 5:21 tells us Jesus became sin for us and bore every single one of our sins, past, present and furture on the cross and He drank the full cup of the wrath of God in our place so that we would not have to. God also took the righteousness of Jesus who never sinned at any time and He put that record on us to cover us so that it is as if we lived the blameless life Jesus did. God sees His Son's record when He looks at His dear children. The fact that Jesus rose again on the third day proved He was worthy and had accomplished His mission and had the power over life and death as He claimed.
      Although salvation is by grace (free gift) alone, that doesn't mean a Christian can continue to sin to allow grace to abound. Doing so would indicate that person was actually never saved at all. As new creations in Christ we should have new desires and wants. We do not follow the Law of God to earn our salvation in any way, we follow His Law because we have new hearts overflowing with gratitude and we love Him and His law. If a person revels in their sin and doesn't have any problem with it and isn't grieved by it, that's a solid reason to evaluate whether that person is truly saved or not.
      I hope that helps. I noticed you are subscribed to Grace to You. Pastor John has some really good sermons on the topic and R.C. Sproul also has some great material on it.

    Another salvation question I just thought of if y’all can;
    Could I/we get a detailed answer on what the difference is between a backslider and an apostate?
    Note- in this scenario, both the backslider and the apostate are unbelievers.

    • @tomh3721
      @tomh3721 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The simple answer would be their is no difference between a backslider and an apostate, essentially these are those people Hebrews 6:4-6 talks about, I believe the best way of understanding exactly what is meant in Hebrews there is found in Christs parable of the sower, both the apostate and backslider would be infertile ground where the word took either no root or only a root on the surface, they may have been “partakers of the Spirit” in the sense that attending a faithful church they would have experienced the grace found in the word of God, preached and read, they might have been through baptism and partook of the Lords Supper and taken part in Christian worship and fellowship and so in a sense have taken part in a congregation wherein the Spirit is clearly active.
      The biggest difference is that neither of them are rooted and established in Christ (Colossians 2:6-7) and therefore are not true partakers in the Spirit or Gods grace and have not had the word of God transform their hearts. Ultimately both require the same thing - repentance and belief in the gospel
