To this day, Susan's voice still makes me emotional. ♥ But I'd like to add this: everyone was so quick to judge her for her quirky, maybe old-fashioned style and looks that perhaps don't match up with today's "beauty standards" - until they heard her incredible performance. Everyone changed their minds about her then. Which is awesome! But everybody who reacted like this, should also think about how often in life they judge other people, who end up not having such a wonderful talent to "redeem" themselves with. Susan is now a star, because she got this great chance. But there are so many people, who simply don't look like supermodels, too, or who are disabled because of health issues (or simply age; we'll all get there!) or who are poor and can't afford fancy clothes, or people who just have a different (life) style and get covered in tattoos, dye their hair green, enjoy wearing historical clothes in our modern days, or whatever else makes them different from the norm. Different skin color, different gender, different beliefs, different interestst... And maybe they can't even sing like Susan or something like that, but they could be the most kind-hearted people, the most loving parents, devoted animal rescuers, helpful neighbors... Or even if none of that, still people with feelings who can get hurt by superficial judgement. Don't judge a book by it's cover! Judge people's character, not their looks. You might get surprised, how interesting the most unusual people can be, once you give them a chance to get to know you. ;-)
When I first saw her audition a long time ago I thought at the beginning of the video everyone was giggling because she had a cool accent that was cute, or because most people come on the show when they are younger, and then because she did the hip thing. 😔 I felt bad when I realized more of the context of why they were laughing (and I realized also the accent thing doesn't make sense given it's from BGT), but her confidence in the face of it knowing why there were giggles is impressive. 😃 I would love to have even 10% of that kind of confidence lol.
@@robincharles7057 💖 I love your comment! And you're right, this woman's confidence was/is impressive. But you, too, can have it! I wrote my original long comment, because I speak from experience when it comes to being bullied. I was always different, always the outcast. I'm from Germany, but as a child I lived in Africa. There I got bullied because I was from a different country. Then we moved back, and in Germany I got bullied because I'd lived in Africa. Then I came into puberty and wasn't so lucky with my skin, and got made fun of because of that. Then I started having my very own, unique, kinda crazy hippie-gypsy-boho clothing style, and got bullied and shunned because of that. Instead of dressing more normal in order to get more accepted by my school mates, I dressed up even more and then went into the school band as a lead singer. I can't even hold a tune in a bucket! I just did it, to make a point of not "backing down" just because other people had different tastes in something so meaningless as clothes or how you puberty skin looked. Now I'm 43. I have emerald green hair, 17 tattoos, lots of scars on my arms from harming myself when I was younger, and I still dress in fancy stuff. I never get bullied anymore! Grandmas come up to me in grocery stores and tell me I look like a mermaid, and they'd dye their hair colorful, too, if they could just be young again. And I reply, they're not to old to do it NOW! Stangers on the tram tell me about my clothes how great it looks. People turn around and smile or flirt all the time, even though I surely don't look perfect (I still have some acne scaars on my skin from puberty, and my nose could be a raven's beak, lol). Since the pandemic began, I've isolated myself a lot, but before that, I did historic/medieval reenactment, and I loved to go dancing at goth and rock clubs. I wouldn't go onto a stange and try to sing anymore!! XD But, you know, confidence comes from owning your uniqueness! From embracing being different! Thank goodness we're not all on a big stage every day, where hundreds of people get to judge us. But that thing, that Susan did there - this acting as if she already owned the place... I think, that's the trick to emanating the (self-)confidence, which then makes people look at you in a positive light. Might not always work in school - kids are little assholes! But I swear, as an adult you can be what and however you want, beautifully and confidently, and most people who don't like your style will just ignore it, and the rest of them will lift you up for it. 💜
@@Allegory_of_Wolves 🥺 I am so sorry so many were mean to you, you sound like a really nice person. I was shy and depressed and kind of silent for awhile, but got along well with people in school. It was after school I had a bunch of stuff happen that kind of shattered me and my confidence. I am glad you are doing so much better and not getting bullied! 🤗 It's awesome that you can inspire others now too!
Her cover of Wild Horses is just incredible. I hated seeing everyone laughing at her but they sure changed their tune once she started singing! Love Susan Boyle!
She doesn’t have those looks people judge singers by in these modern times. Unfortunately, people laugh when they see something out of the ordinary. Happens to me too despite not looking that bad. It could also be the vibe from being autistic. I’m autistic as well, so people may sense this “weirdness”.
@@taoist32 At least she got a nice makeover. I think it was just difficult being 47 already. Most people that age have already been in the business awhile so we “forgive” them getting older. Unfortunately, Susan grew up thinking she was “slow.” She was actually quite intelligent, so I am not sure how people would assume that. It turns out she had Aspergers all along.
Susan Boyle is an example of not judging a book by its cover and giving people a chance who would normally be discounted or written off. Susan has Asperger's and again, she's an example for giving people a chance.
What I loved was that everyone usually comes in jeans and a T shirt and Susan, from a tiny provincial Scottish village, dressed up in her best dress, terribly old fashioned, like she was going to a 1950s wedding. So sweet. Her authenticity, and the purity and sincerity in her voice are matchless.
I think the producers actually suggested she dress in a way to make herself look dowdy. They knew she had a voice, and she would be judged on her appearance.
She was not old fashiond. The mistake she made was wearing dark tights with a light dress and shoes. If she had a little bit make up and her hair blow dried to make it softer looking she would've looked so much better. I'm a hairdresser and I've spent my whole life getting people ready for every kind of event.. now that she has help in the styling depth she looks lovely. My daughter sees her regularly on public transport in Central Scotland. Good for her. She always comes over for a chat.
I watched the original audition when it was broadcast and she shocked a nation, everyone judged her, she humbled a LOT of people and taught so many not to judge by appearance, Susan is amazing, still gives me goosebumps every time I hear this.
Don't be so hard on yourself. She surprised us all! I cannot count the times I have listened to this song and I get goose bumps every time💖💖💖 I have her first CD, she is wonderful. If I remember correctly, she lived with and cared for her mom until her mom passed away.
Yes she looked after both her parents till they died, she was from a one street village and was extremely "SHY" and didn't know the big bad world, and comes off as overt ❤🌟❤
@Murron B it was my understanding she lived in a Village, meaning an independent house located on a private parcel of property within a community. A contrast to living in a City, where a typical home occupies a unit of space within a large building. Many include common areas for residents to share. They're often referred to as; apartment, flat, condo or townhouse.
If you watch the full version when they interview her backstage before the performance, she says she's going to make the audience rock. She knew what s h e could do. If you watch closely, when the intro to the song plays, she gives a knowing little smile- and then opens her mouth and lets everyone have it. She knew she could do it.
Don’t apologize for becoming emotional when listening to good music. That’s what music is supposed to do, touch our emotions. I enjoyed your reaction to Susan Boyle, and now you can listen to her music any time.
She's such a light in this dark world. It's so heartbreaking to watch them basically laugh at her and mock her but what's impressive to me is that she didn't let that get her down. Im not a huge Susan Boyle fan this is the only song I've ever heard but some people have such light in them that it only takes once to deeply impact someone.
I've lost track of how many times I've watched this performance over the years and it still gives me goosebumps and makes me want to cry. She does a beautiful job of so many songs, but I think my favourite is 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. I've never heard a voice so beautiful and powerful.
Dear Shahin, thank you so much for releasing this video of your honest reaction to Susan Boyle's audition. You had the option to re-record your reaction showing yourself in a better, less judgemental way and you are generous in spirit and honesty to have posted this. Your heart and empathy are so warming. Thank you! This, too, teaches us a lesson. There is hardly a single person in the United Kingdom who does not know who Susan Boyle is and has not, at least, heard about this famous audition; famous because at the beginning, like you, just about everyone was prejudiced against her and laughing at the thought that this 'ridiculous' middle-aged woman could possibly have any talent whatsoever! She has been an education to literally millions of people on prejudice; how first opinions can be so utterly misleading and cruel; and how talent can exist where we suspect none - with zero evidence and 100% ill-judged presumptions. I wish you - and the magnificent, courageous and beautiful Susan Boyle - every happiness!
When I need to feel the good of humanity....... I go and listen to Susan's audition........ Tears of joy every time!! I see someone said she is a teacher along with being a singer....... she teaches the world to be kind, accepting, and unafraid to face your challenges!! This was the perfect song for her world debut performance!! 😉😉😉
I watched that when it was first shown. Yes, I'm ashamed to say I wasn't expecting much. When Susan Boyle opened her mouth my jaw hit the ground and the tears fell down my face. What a beautiful voice. I'm so happy that you found your success at last Susan Boyle. I regularly watch it here on YT, it was a moment I shall never forget as long as I live.
Please don't apologize! If you don't get emotional watching this clip, something is wrong with you! The phrase "a Susan Boyle moment" is actually a thing in the English language now; whenever someone who seems like a "nobody" just blows everyone away with their talent. Thank you for doing this reaction. I never get tired of watching the clip, and seeing someone else experience it for the first time is extra-special.
I saw this the day after it happened. Since then I have seen it hundreds of times. I watch it any time I am feeling down and it always makes me smile. Always. She is a gift and a blessing to us all.
She is on the spectrum. She is amazing in how she can convey emotions in her voice! A gift from God! I have a nephew on the spectrum. He is one my favorite people in this world!
I'm high functioning on the spectrum and never felt the need to laugh at her. In fact, I don't understand why anyone laughed at all. She was cheeky, but I don't understand anyone assuming what her talent was like based on her looks. It doesn't make any logical sense to me. One of those "I don't get it"
She's an amazing, sweet lady from a little town who really did have a dream. Susan's discovery gives credence to the concept of a talent show like this. She struggled with the sudden enormous fame she had to deal with, but from what I understand, with time and some help, she's doing well now.
I will NEVER tire of listening to her performance. Wonderful forever. She and Charlotte and Jonathan are my favorite auditions of all time. Beautiful surprises.
She won!! The World fell in love with her!! She has a sense of humor as you could see!! Part of her story is she took care of her mother and it was her time to shine at age 47!!! What a true inspiration!! 💜💜
I thought that she didn’t win, but had a breakdown after the strain of the competition. However she was supported to rise again and began he successful journey after that. So it hasn’t been a smooth journey all the way. I’m a fan.
Diversity won and Susan came second. She did have a breakdown after but that was due to the papers being nasty and not leaving her alone. I read her autobiography.
@@CoffeeBeam0510 I understand her having a breakdown. She had lived a sheltered life and I think that most of us would be overwhelmed with the enormity of what was happening to her. I’m a big fan of hers and wish her the very best for her. PS she did get to sing with Elaine Page. Don’t know if I spelled that name right.
Every once in a while I go back and watch the video you just watched, to see this frumpy older woman walk out to everyone snickering, myself included. It doesn't take but a few seconds of her singing to become emotional. No matter how many times I've watched this it still impacts me the same. Thanks for the reaction video. You reacted pretty much like I did the first time. She was given an amazing gift and I'm glad she is sharing it finally.
I remember watching this at the time...we all giggled. And we all had tears in our eyes when she started singing. It took her 47 years to actually show her amazing talent, that is kinda sad, don't you think?
that moment at 3:21-3:27 always grabs me in the gut--only other singers know how hard it is to do that. my favorite part is that she sang her song and then was ready to walk off. She didn't wait to find out whether they liked it. Her dream was to go out there and sing in front of a big audience, and she did it, and that was all she wanted. so authentic!
What a voice she has! I like your face when she starts singing! Stunning! And don't feel any shame bro! You made it quit ok with your sound and expressions. And again thanks man. Great video ❤
The package wrapping doesn't show the inner gift, that surely Susan has. She is just fantastic!!!! Also, she has now sung with Elaine Paige and, of course, many other artists!!!
Everyone laughed at first, no one expected this! Huge surprise!!! She didn't win but still her career took off! Multiple CDs and TV appearances. She even sang WITH Elaine Page, and she was WAY better than Elaine. Love you, Susan!!!!!
Everyone reacted the same way as soon as she began to sing. Hand over the mouth and just so moved. I remember watching this and crying. Still wowed by this.
After this she had to take some time away because she wasn't prepared for such a media uproar but she came back stronger than ever and is now an international superstar. She still lives in her village though and is known to be a humble and kind human being. THIS is the kind of talent who I love to see and why I watch these shows. Go explore her other songs. She is inspiring!
Her voice hit me the same way. Even now, after hearing her voice a hundred times, it STILL hits me to the core, EVERY SINGLE TIME, that I hear it. She is incredible, and such an awesome person.
She's a Beautiful soul, my BEST friend died from COVID-19, she Loved her, and I listen to this song almost every day.. to feel what she felt when she listened to you.🙏🙏🙏 Bless you Beautiful lady, and Thank you 🥺❤️
I absolutely loved this performance and especially Simon’s reaction. He is a fierce critic and knows his music and the music industry. He was duly impressed. Hoping it just wasn’t the look he gets in his eyes and face when he’s counting the money ahead of time. Very happy for Miss Boyle that her dream of becoming a professional singer came true. So happy for myself and the world who gets to feel joy from her enormous talent. God bless her.
No matter how many times I see this, I still cry and get goosebumps. What nobody saw when she walked out and started talking, was that she was 100% confident in her talent because she had clearly trained her voice for decades. Her voice is such a gorgeous voice and it IS a privilege to listen to it.
She is an amazing beautiful person, and how the world judge's a book by its cover, this is why the world is how it is, always remember NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER! just because someone seems or looks different it doesn't make them not human and without feelings, whoever they are. She is a wonderful example of this 🇬🇧
This video inspired so many people to follow their dreams, and the big lesson of never judging a book by its cover. Her albums are fantastic. I see it touched you too. ❤
First time seeing this, I was so moved. She was such an underdog and came out on top - I think that's what everyone reacts to. She has a wonderful voice. Went on to make some incredible albums and perform with her idol, Elaine Paige. She made her dream come true despite what she was up against. And aren't we the better for it?
When I attended a musical performance some years ago in Edinburgh she sat in front of me in the audience. Chatted a little and I remember her as quite funny and witty. She is really special.
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback- it was actually cooler that you weren’t ready for it! I love the way you did such a 180 - you made my day by being so in awe and appreciative of her.
Susan is phenomenal and has indeed reached her dream of being an equal to Susan Paige. She was always a bit different and as an adult, was diagnosed on the spectrum and she was relieved to get that diagnosis as it explained a lot to her. She is a super star now and richly deserves it. I encourage you to listen to her albums.

I do not fear the end and it's "judgement", because when I learned enough, what I had to learn, I have nothing to fear, otherwise I only get "send back" (although I hope last one is not happening). Get rid of your fear and you will see, how many want people keep in fear, so that they can control them better. Look at nature and tell me, where you find animals who have fears in the wild? I pet, you will see none. I do not speak of pets and of them who had terrible owners, because they are domesticated. I mean the wild. A crow will always attack a buzzard when it comes to near to its nest. At least in the area where I live, where nature can be nature. And it needs only one crow, to show the buzzard its "red line" and the buzzard understands it and sails into another direction! Go and have a look and you will see, all the "church stuff" is only "another propaganda". Enjoy your weekend. ❤️
To this day, Susan's voice still makes me emotional. ♥
But I'd like to add this: everyone was so quick to judge her for her quirky, maybe old-fashioned style and looks that perhaps don't match up with today's "beauty standards" - until they heard her incredible performance.
Well said.
Me too. I always cry.
Her cover of Wild Horses is just incredible. I hated seeing everyone laughing at her but they sure changed their tune once she started singing! Love Susan Boyle!
Yes!!That is my favorite song by her … it blew me away!! Also her version of Mad World.
☝️Me to.💖👍😎😊🙂
So true!
The first time I heard her sing I had chills, and I cried because it is such a beautiful rendition.
I still cry and I have seen this original video over 100 times
Still do. Beautiful xxxx
And Simon made her a star!! Yaaaaay!!! Worth about $40 million and nobody's laughing now. She's wonderful!! You go Susan!!!!
if i ever meet her i'm going to chat her up , marry her and live like a king
@@Frank75288 wtf!?
She made herself a star
I'm sure she made Simon $40 million as well.
@@NoComment79 That she did.
So sweet. Her authenticity, and the purity and sincerity in her voice are matchless.
what an awesome comment! this is what everyone was thinking, but you managed to type the right words. good job!
@@juliemccrea5481 🥰
And that just made her more perfect than if she’d had a professional makeover.
I have heard this 100x and still cry every time!! Just so beautiful!!!
Everyone laughed when she said how old she was and what her dream was but as soon as she started singing, we all realized her dream was obtainable!!
I watched the original audition when it was broadcast and she shocked a nation, everyone judged her, she humbled a LOT of people and taught so many not to judge by appearance, Susan is amazing, still gives me goosebumps every time I hear this.
Don't be so hard on yourself. She surprised us all! I cannot count the times I have listened to this song and I get goose bumps every time💖💖💖
I have her first CD, she is wonderful.
If I remember correctly, she lived with and cared for her mom until her mom passed away.
Yes she looked after both her parents till they died, she was from a one street village and was extremely "SHY" and didn't know the big bad world, and comes off as overt ❤🌟❤
Roni like you I have listened over the years this audition of hers and it never fails to make me well up a bit and I am over 70.
I still cry every time I watch this. Love her other albums . so glad I ever watched her.
@@dnllmaurer1 with a population of 5,730, that's one big village!
If you watch the full version when they interview her backstage before the performance, she says she's going to make the audience rock. She knew what s h e could do. If you watch closely, when the intro to the song plays, she gives a knowing little smile- and then opens her mouth and lets everyone have it. She knew she could do it.
One of the best auditions after all these years. She did such a beautiful job.
Every time I watch her perform this, I think about all the times that I've judged a book by its cover and feel completely humbled.
Don’t apologize for becoming emotional when listening to good music. That’s what music is supposed to do, touch our emotions. I enjoyed your reaction to Susan Boyle, and now you can listen to her music any time.
His apology needs to be for laughing at her.
She's such a light in this dark world. It's so heartbreaking to watch them basically laugh at her and mock her but what's impressive to me is that she didn't let that get her down. Im not a huge Susan Boyle fan this is the only song I've ever heard but some people have such light in them that it only takes once to deeply impact someone.
try her cover of wild horses...magnificent
I hope there a special corner in a (not too nasty) hell for that guy who mockingly wolf-whistled her when she came on stage.
People should not judge people how they look and we all have talents.
Never underestimate a little lady, wrapped in a small village, church lady, cat person package. They will knock your socks off!🤗💕
I've lost track of how many times I've watched this performance over the years and it still gives me goosebumps and makes me want to cry.
You can NEVER judge a book by its cover. SO very inspiring for people that have doubters.
I still, to this day, am brought to tears by this wonderous performance.
I am too, and I did not laugh at Susan when she came onstage. I noticed right away.
I'm high functioning on the spectrum and never felt the need to laugh at her. In fact, I don't understand why anyone laughed at all.
She was cheeky, but I don't understand anyone assuming what her talent was like based on her looks. It doesn't make any logical sense to me.
One of those "I don't get it"
I can't get enough of hearing this performance. Absolutely fantastic.
Paul Botts was good too.
THIS IS 2022 AND now she is a HOUSEHOLD WORD and she deserves it. A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!
Susan Boyle, showed the world, Never judge a book by its cover, awesome performance, what a voice, well deserved fame!! Love her ,humbleness x
I’m a fan.
She came in second.

Elaine Paige had that privilege to sing with Susan? Good for her.

It teaches us what we have become doesn’t it. It’s humbling
I still get goosebumps no matter how many times I’ve seen this clip!
Way to go, Susan. What an emotional rollercoaster. Love her.
I remember watching this at the time...we all giggled. And we all had tears in our eyes when she started singing. It took her 47 years to actually show her amazing talent, that is kinda sad, don't you think?
I believe the people in her village were aware of her singing talent. Think she sang in church and in public locally.
that moment at 3:21-3:27 always grabs me in the gut--only other singers know how hard it is to do that.
my favorite part is that she sang her song and then was ready to walk off.

After this she had to take some time away because she wasn't prepared for such a media uproar but she came back stronger than ever and is now an international superstar.
