    I see truck retread tires are a problem there too. Had a truck trailer tire blow up as it was passing us right next to the driver window. That was a scary experience. Found rubber and dint in the side after. The truck didn’t even notice and kept on going.

    This just goes to show that charging an EV on a long trip is not a huge deal. The Mach-E isn’t even one of the fastest-charging cars, nor does it have a lot of range, but it still does great. The in-car trip planner helps too.

    Another fun and successful Twocifer road trip! The wind was wreaking havoc on everybody's efficiency. I bet the dead e-tron in Baker didn't count on the headwinds being so bad and ended up falling a mile or two short.
    I'm guessing those Martian Wheels are a bit less efficient than the normal GTPE wheels plus those new summer performance tires, and the headwinds all conspired to reduce your range.

    • @lemongavine
      @lemongavine 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When the eTron driver saw he was getting low, he probably sped-up to try and hurry to get to the charger instead of slowing down 😂

    The Solar Farm is commonly called a Solar Furnace. The mirrors focus heat and light on the tower which is filled with 'something' which can be water or a molten salt. Water is converted to steam either directly or by being exposed to the molten salt and the resulting steam is used to drive turbines, which in turn coupled to generators.

      It is funny I do get messages in the car like you did basically saying you can't make it to the next stop. It happens every now and then, but I ignore it. Not sure why it does it because I use android auto not the car GPS system. I clearly have enough charge to my stop but it wierd it will come on sometimes. Other than that love the car.

    Side note: Circle K is a Canadian company, it's so frustrating to see them investing in US charging so much while doing so little here in Canada. I know there are few in BC but in Ontario there is nothing and there are Circle Ks everywhere.

  • @jamesrea329
    @jamesrea329 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There’s a Circle K between Poway and Solana Beach. Of course there’s no reason why you would want to go to a DCFC so close to home, but I had a great charging session there in January in a GV60 (I’m from Los Angeles, hope I run into you guys someday). Very similar to your experience, there was no one else there, even though the EA location a few minutes away was packed. Very convenient. By the way, Victorville is not the middle of nowhere. It was when I was a kid in the 1970s, but not any more, there’s a big population out there these days.

    Patrick at 37:46 When at Baker, the EA app wasn’t working to activate the charge, I was wondering if you have added the EA card to your Apple wallet and then just tapped your phone to the charger to start charging. I think this is a fairly reliable way to start charging as well as you getting your discounted rate.
    By the way, there was virtually no wind noise, those microphones that you use are spectacular.

    Have you guys used a Magic Dock recently? Meaning after Tesla increased their AMP limit to 500A from the previous 350A to get an idea of what the charging speed of your Mach-E will be soon when Tesla opens up to Fords?

  • @random490
    @random490 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey Patrick and Liv, I've been scoping out your videos, and I noticed that you usually use each chargers app to activate the charge. Is the plug and charge from the BlueOval network not reliable? I know there are some issues with EA's plug and charge service, but I had hoped that Ford's system would be better.

    • @MachE_VLOG

      @MachE_VLOG  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Last year on almost that same exact route we got 2.3 miles per kWh. I think 3 factors gave us the lower number this time - colder temps, stickier tires, and the wind.

  • @ronb4633
    @ronb4633 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Patrick, your stats cannot seem to be correct at 15:39. You show you want 105 miles with only 37% of the battery which would be a 289 mile range which may be possible on a very good day. Also, you show 1.9 miles/ kilowatt hour, which would make your battery size be 149 kWh if those other numbers are correct.
    I am really enjoying seeing a road trip from you guys. Hope to see you along the journey sometime again. At 15:39. I heard you say that you finished at 37%, that now makes sense. Your stats showed that you had 37% battery used not remaining 😅
    Ron/Stealth
    I would say a road trip would be at least 800 to 1000 miles.

    Impact of wind should be the same on ICE and EV's.

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is... and it isn't. The biggest effect is that if I need to stop to refuel sooner because of the wind, there may not be a charger available. With gas, there is a lot more flexibility usually.

  • @MrRobertPogson
    @MrRobertPogson 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    70 mph is most efficient speed? I was horrified to hear that. The main loads are air drag, rolling resistance and heating/cooling. At room temperature, the most efficient speed would be about 15mph, parking lot speed. In winter with heat, it's probably 30 mph. Air-drag increases with the square of the speed, so, at 70 mph you are wasting four times as much energy as at 35mph to drive the same distance. Wind can actually improve efficiency if it is from your "six". A 40 mph headwind would make your air-drag at 70mph like driving 110mph, more than double the drag.
    My little i-Miev can get up to 5 miles per kWh in still air. I drive slowly. :-)

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wondered if that would need further context when I said it but the moment had passed so I hoped my intent would be understood. You're right, slower is more efficient for EVs! I simply meant that considering the context of people overtaking us when we were at 70mph. I think that, when driving an EV, if efficiency is a concern for you, then you need to get used to people overtaking you while you sit in the right lane. - Liv

    Can you elaborate more on the Charge Assist feature? I have a 05/23 build MME/GTPE, and I am missing this feature? I had all of my software checked out, and the car had every module updated to the latest available level, but this App doesn't exist in my App drawer. Also, I'm assuming to be able to use the Tesla adapter that Ford was letting you currently use, perhaps your VIN got a specific software push? Thanks for the videos!

    Until ev can make it to Vegas from LA, I won't buy one. I drive to Chicago a lot. I can leave with a full tank and only stop four times for gas. Driving at 90mph . Remember a chunk 80 ,pH speed limit
    The new Chevy truck is supposed to get the real world 450 miles a charge. That would be about 6 stops for charging to Chicago. It around 2000 miles. But two stop to Vegas is a giant noway

    • @MachE_VLOG
      @MachE_VLOG  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Your a perfect example of someone that shouldn't buy an EV yet and that's OK. It's still early days with EVs and they don't meet every need with the current technology. That trip was fine for us and we usually just make one stop to eat lunch and we charge while we eat. This time we added another bathroom break so we also charged a little bit there as well. That works fine for us, but I know for some they one to do in one stretch with zero breaks.
      The Chevy Silverado has a huge battery so it does have some impressive range but it won't be 450 miles at 80+ mph. Our friends over at Out of Spec got 434 miles at 70 mph.

    Isn't it sad the $3000 ICE cars are filling up under the cover out of the hot sun and weather while the $80,000 EV owners are out in the open being soaked or fried??

    • @Japplesnap
      @Japplesnap 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see your point, but that's a bit of a weird thing to say. $3,000 ICE cars are far and few between. Most ICR cars on the road are much, much more valuable. Both of my ICE cars are still worth more than $50k and they also fill up in 5 minutes staying out of the weather during that short stop. But yeah, it would be nice if canopies of some sort were regularly put over charging stations.

    • @LarryButler-kp3se
      @LarryButler-kp3se 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Japplesnap Your problem is "new". My Mercedes, a 1983 300TD diesel wagon, is the most reliable car ever built. When it infrequently needs repair, I pay my auto repair to fix it. $100 buys it a new battery from Walmart. Amazon has parts to fix it. Only complete idiots buy new cars costing tens of thousands just to end up waiting for parts then losing 20 times more money in depreciation/taxes/insurance/etc than my diesel burns in 30 years....
