The movement that begins at 6:28 has such a quiet nobility, such a divinely inspired humanity, such a purity, a serene acceptance of life on earth and in heaven as well, that it had me crying.

Played this sonata in 1958 with my teacher at his annual recital. He graciously allowed me to play the first cello part. Also played it at summer school at Mills College while taking a chamber music course with Margaret Rowell. Many fond memories. This is well played.
    Thanks.

Wow, having Margaret Rowell as a teacher must have been amazing, I had the opportunity to attend a solo cello concert performed by Matthew Owens in 2003 at Berkeley Art Center, a student of the well known cello teacher Margaret Rowell who talked heavenly about her, truly fond memories.
Must have been truly amazing being in her presence and learning from her.
May you live a long life sir :)

Even though this Trio Sonata in G minor most likely wasn't composed by Händel himself, it's still very nice music.
The notorious London publisher - John Walsh (1665-1736) - wasn't exactly in the habit of asking permission from the composers, before printing their music (often based on dubious copies being in circulation at the time) in order for him to make himself a nice profit. The theory goes, that Walsh probably wasn't able to get his hands on enough manuscripts by Händel to form a complete set of twelve Trio Sonatas. And that he therefore - in order to fill out the holes - simply grabbed a couple of Trio Sonatas written by other lesser known composers, and just published everything under the name of George Frideric Handel.
It's also a bit ironic, that this particular arrangement for two cellos and piano has managed to make the Trio Sonata No. 8 in G minor one of the most (if not THE most) popular of "Händel"s opus 2 Trio Sonatas. ;-)

Nigel W. Ruddock Makes one want to cry if it is not by Handel. This composition is worthy of him, there is no much repertoire for two cellos (I only can remember a Boccherini duo and Vivaldi's concerto for two cellos.)

    • @h.k9697
      @h.k9697 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jorgelopez-pr6dr This is an authentic Handel Trio Sonata, from his youthful days in Halle or Dresden (as are all his sonatas) and this can be easily verified as there is a similarity of thematic material to Handel's later works, a common compositional technique of him. Obviously the original is not for 2 cellos, but for 2 violins or violin and oboe and basso continuo.

Beautiful. I wonder why they opt to use the vibrato technique rather than a flat bow? It was my understanding that the vibrato was something that came into its own in the Romantic era? Otherwise this is new to me. Have been playing Handel's suites for keyboard last few days. Falling in love with Handel after a long time in the shade cast by Bach. It is not for nothing that Beethoven declared Handel to be the supreme composer.

He is truly a wonderful cellist with great soloist qualities. And lucky also with the cello hes playing on. But....from a musical point of view, seriously, how can you not recognise when the other is the THEME and you just accompany the other voice?... The so called ballance is a bit off on this otherwise beautiful recording.

Well it's actually baroque, but still quite a good performance

You are correct, Handel was a composer from the Baroque period.

@@EvensongConcerts yeah you found another way of interpretation so there is no right or wrong but so far I only heard the more baroque versions that's why I was a little confused

Great, but never would have guessed Handel. Sounds more recent, romantic, closer to Beethoven. Handel usually not my favorite despite Messiah.

ah! si?...originalmente era un címbalo parte del trío? en vez del piano? ¡qué interesante sería oirlo, a ver, que tal sonaría?...más "medieval"?

It’s very nice using even though it might not have been written by Handel
