  • Contra is back with Operation Galuga and there are some really awesome aspects to the new game, but at the same time, there are some definite drawbacks to the game as well. Watch to see a full breakdown of the game as we journey through all the pros and cons of the game.

    What did you think of the newest entry into the Contra series?!

      Not perfect but I love it. You can’t put too much blame on them, you have to blame Konami. It’s obvious the devs worked with what they had. You can tell they was on an indie game budget. Graphics might not be great but it gets the job done. Gameplay and movement feels great. I love the fact they give you options on how to play. If you looking for fun then if fun to be had in this game. If you are looking for a modern day run n gun 2.5D shooter with perks, grinding and challenge modes then this is a game for you. Finally, if you looking for that PSTD old school make you want to throw the controller against the wall then you have the option to play that way. You can unlock characters who all play differently and you can unlock the old games ost and play through the game with those tracks including Contra 4’s ost. Only problem with this game is it doesn’t have online co-op. I highly recommend this game unless you are a hardcore uprising or rogue corp fan.

      I do agree with you, it is a really fun game, but like you said, you can tell Konami stepped on the budget. The developers kept the original feel and the gave us an old school contra experience. Lots of cool callbacks for retro players to love too. I just don’t get why Konami clearly gave them the small budget but then charge players $40 for it. They should have stuck with an indie game price tag of $20ish. Guess Konami was getting a bit greedy. And that’s a shame because they would have sold WAY more copies at the $20 range and probably made more money overall which would have encouraged more old school Contra games. But at least Konami is giving the series some attention so I’m glad to see that, and they did ultimately give us a really fun game here too. Thanks for the input!

      Thanks! And when put that way, it's only natural the game should have more cons, lol.

    We haven't had a good Contra game in more then a decade so I didn't mind the price. it's quite replayable what with all the perks and extra character that have their own movement abilities and variations to the weapons and such.

      @Ogles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point to make, we haven't had a quality game in so long so it sorta evens out a bit for a higher price.

      A retro style Contra Game for $20 already exists, sort of... We call it Blazing Chrome, it's got some Metal Slug elements too :)

    The projectiles seem really distracting. Did you find them to be distracting or were you able to eventually tune them out?

    • @Ogles
      @Ogles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It sorta depended on the level… for the run and gun levels, it was pretty easy to keep up with everything happening. However for the motorcycle levels, it was pretty chaotic and was sorta hard to keep up with everything. The upgraded weapons do allow you to take out a ton of enemies fast though, so even when it’s chaotic you don’t die as often as you’d think. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Can you play 2 players with just one switch? I cannot seem to find an answer to this question

      Yes! It is local co-op

      Your Switch should break if you offer this game to a friend to play coop. I would personally UnFriend you.

      @@Ogles so one player uses the blue controller and one uses the red controller?
      I really want to get this but not willing to buy another switch.

      You would need to have two full controllers for the switch instead of just 2 joycons

    More baffled how it costs almost full price yet offers way less levels compared to the originals

      They really should have made it a $20 game :/

    Great game with lot's of fanservice. However, most of the levels are way too long with wave after wave of the same enemies. Also the bosses are kind of an awful bullet hell which are hard to read.

      They do lead to bullet hell sometimes which isn't quite in line with the originals, but I do feel like they are going in the right direction for fans here too

    Look at the game and try to match it with the Nostalgia. Based on this, there’s absolutely NO reason for the newer Generation to believe “our” gaming era was better than theirs….If you’re a Fortnite Baby there’s no way in hell you’ll buy this game based on the visuals alone…Even though Fortnite is Toony AF, this game makes the Toonyness look bland at best….What is this rant about: The fact that we glorify OUR gaming Era as the best then when we get a chance to show these New kids what we were in love with, we show some boring and bland shit like this…smh…Just STOP remaking shit. Let it live in the past so it doesn’t die in the present.
    To add on: Video Game remakes should NOT cost the same or more than the original. It isn’t a “NEW” game so it shouldn’t be treated as such. Half Off at best. You’re taking a game that’s already made and simply upgrading the graphics and maybe adding a story. Still the SAME GAME!

      I do agree that the visuals aren't my favorite and it was an attempt to appeal to a newer generation; however, once old school players get past some of the visuals, the game itself is quite a bit of fun. Just wish they had lower the price tag to get more people invested in the game. Thanks for the input!

      @@OglesThat’s just it, at a Dev standpoint (non series fan) You would want to appeal to the newer gen which you’d want to make everything faster, more rapid, and have a group within your team that does nothing but skins. For the Dev that’s a fan of the series, You would go for trying to keep it Nostalgic as possible through character and story alone. I guess my end argument would be somewhere along the line of them trying to keep that Contra feel but bringing it into the 3D world…to each his own
