    Wow...I am blown away. Ive been struggling with a way to keep a paper pattern on the stone and what you just did was EXACTLY what I needed!
    The more I watch your videos the more excited I get! I have a project I started 3 years ago but could not move forward with until now that is...thank you so much!!

      This is what I love to hear!! I know the paper template isn’t a fancy idea or anything, but it’s one of the most useful tools for me. I’m equally excited for you and can’t wait to hear how your 3-year project finally turn out! 😊

      @@calbrittonjewelry My problem was keeping the template ON the material when I was cutting it. The material I was cutting wouldn't hold a perminent marker and an aluminum or copper stylus would blend in too much to be effective. It did not even occur to me to seal a paper template with super glue. That could be the game changer I need.
      I will really be putting the new machine to work now. And don't worry, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

      I can’t wait to hear all about it! I’d say if the template is still being troublesome, try adding another layer of super glue. You could even go crazy and try epoxy if Super Glue doesn’t work. Good luck!!! 😊

    Thanks for being here, there is very little (at least that I like) lapidary info in the manner in which you share. I'm self learning, no classes here where i live and other jewelers in my area are actively closed mouthed, so thanks again.

      Thank you for your kind words! People like you are the reason I make these videos since accessibility can be so hard for more advanced lapidary techniques. For sure, there are plenty of people who are scared of having “more competition” by sharing their techniques, but I believe there’s room for everyone! 😊

    I tried it out and it was a success. Thanks to Catlin who is the only one I know of on TH-cam that actually has a video teaching this technique of inlay. Using her tutorial video I have successfully learned how to do this type of inlay. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video and to help others like me learn you are an awesome person and artist.

    This video was amazing! I will probably watch it fully 5 more times before diving in to this cool technique - there’s so many great tips in this video! You are so thorough! I really hope you are benefiting monetarily from this time you are spending - this expertise is like gold for people like me who are so interested but just can’t put it all together yet. I’ve been cutting slabs for years…all from rocks I’ve found on the ground - and they sit in a bucket while I feel them and hold them and examine their beautiful patterns …and then never take anything farther because I just haven’t had the knowledge or inspiration. YOU gave me that!!! I went in to the bucket a few weeks ago after seeing your videos and was so excited to make something! I will post a pic of my first successful piece if I can! It is soooo addicting - I find it hard to accomplish other things because I constantly think of the possibilities haha! I am so happy I found your tutorial…when my obsession with inlay started, there was literally NO info online. I scoured the whole internet until there was no info I hadn’t already read regarding inlay/intarsia. I subscribed to a monthly online class a few years ago done by artist Jeff Fulkerson - it was great but it honestly just didn’t light that fire for me. I did learn a lot of the basics from him, which was great because I needed to start somewhere. Your down to earth personality and “can do” attitude gave me the kick I needed to try it myself instead of constantly scrolling work done by others! I’ve made an imperfect piece I’m actually really proud to call a great first try!! Thanks again Caitlin!

      Ahhh, you have no idea how much reading this has filled me up with joy! While some small donations of $10-20 are coming in, these videos are much bigger of an undertaking than that as you may imagine since I'm doing all the making, filming, and editing, and voiceovers. BUT I want this technique to be accessible, even if I'm missing out by not making this a pay-for tutorial on a different platform.
      I feel like I can literally FEEL how excited you are about really getting into this, and that's making me get excited too! And that's the idea: there are plenty of us that are rockhounds, but don't know how to transform those rocks into something cool to wear besides just the basic cabochon. These art forms of intarsia and inlay are like painting, so it feels like you are really putting more creativity into it than just cutting something out with a cab template (blahhh).
      I knew when I just started these tutorials this year that Jeff was just setting up his book or online class or something. There truly isn't ANY other kind of tutorial showing this technique, whether it's a book or video; it seems like it's mostly very limited in-person classes. I think artists like to keep it a secret so oops I'm spilling the beans to everyone :D
      If you can't send a picture here, please send me an email because I'd love to see what you've made so far! You can send it to info@c-albritton.com :) happy inlaying!

    • @calbrittonjewelry
      @calbrittonjewelry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Virginia! Would you like a basic cabbing tutorial? This technique just assumes you know the basics of silversmithing and stone cutting.
      I use a CabKing 6 for my polishing and a Hi-Tech diamond trim saw to cut out my stones from a slab (I also have a Hi-Tech diamond slab saw for making slabs from rough I rockhound or buy). Check out the video description for links to those machines plus a discount code for certain items (or let me know if you can’t find the link and I’ll shoot it in a comment here).
      If you have any machine questions, I can always give you my phone number to chat about it, just shoot me an email at info@c-albritton.com

    Would you recommend dopping the stones or free hand?

    • @calbrittonjewelry
      @calbrittonjewelry  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suppose you could dop the top for while you work on fitting the bottom of the stone in your framework, then dop the bottom to do the doming. The problem I see here is you’re going to miss out on a bunch of test fits along the way. I know with some stones it’s easy to overcut the girdle down too far and will loosen your stone. But I have heard people dopping even the tiniest of stones on a little wooden skewer with a bit of CA glue though!
