If China and Russia already have a space force, and commercial space is ushering in a new space age, then why they hell do we need a "robust national conversation" on whether we should make our own or not? Trump did exactly the right thing in creating the Space Force, anyone who opposes is simply not living in the 21st century.

What stood out for me in this report is that there was a lot of talk yet nothing to show for it. One man; Elon Musk went ahead and solved a major problem. One man; President Trump said enough talk; let's do it. And so, yesterday two men were launched into space. The start of a new era in space exploration.

When multiple commercial airliners hijacked and used as weapons we relied on other pilots visual sightings communicated by radio ! The fighter jets sent to intercept them could not get close ? The Pentagon with extreme security has its own radar and air defense that did not do anything ! Even the countless security cameras were not functional ! Along with so many other things that would be way to long to read here that are documented it is amazing what has not been done. It still does and will in the future affect us in big ways !
I have to say one thing positive about the Pentagon that is amazing ! While the said plane that struck it wings did not hit the building hit the ground. The amazing Pentalawn looks perfect on video with just a hole before it partial collapse where struck. The steel at WTC with massive I beams bent like pretzels with no buckles or tears were also amazing to me. The Iron Workers doing the clean up took one for this reason too. Where can you get it ? I was wondering if those that think "Space Force" is funny do they feel the same about the "Airforce?"
Also if Obama created this branch of our military would they be attacking it?
I remember them attacking Reagan for SDI. Which gave us the Patriot Missiles that does shoot down enemy missiles.
Space is the high ground. It is GPS, Communications, and Intelligence. Our modern military is highly depended on these space technologies.
China and Russia are both developing Anti-Satellite weapons. This is not a joke, but the reality of the 21st Century. th-cam.com/video/b8SXT6-mr0M/w-d-xo.html

I have no idea what Obama has to do with this, but I’m guessing if you’re referencing politics, you’re forgetting a democratic administration had Air Force enacted under the national security act in lieu of World War 2 and the beginnings of the Cold War as a result of nuclear arming.
Now let’s just ignore politics for a second. The video enlightens us on the difference aspects of space being civil, military, and intelligence. We have the Air Force. We have NASA. Functionally space force is just a rebrand of the section of Air Force that deals with space assets. So while it’s actually very nice to have suburban families redirect their attention space, its not some kind of new age technological development. As the video describes, there was no political support for strategic development other than the Air Force and NASA (who might not exactly be champions of conservative thinking considering the core values of mathematics, physics, and academics to fuel progression)
However I will concede that if it’s able to convince staunch supporters of trump to ignore anti-space sentiment, it’s better than nothing

The US Air Force created Space Command in 1982 to address military space activities, and within a few years, it became apparent that a dedicated service needed to be created to provide the proper focus. Space systems development was hampered by the Air Force priorities that gave preference to aircraft. This creation of Space Force is long overdue.

Having satellites and ICBMs used by us and other countries relies on this technology in space being protected properly. It is a necessity. Plus, the name is cool. Space force.

@15:49 "I often tell people 'Hands down, the US has the best Air Force in the world.' We should ask ourselves, 'Would that be the case if the Air Force was still subjugated to the Army?' And the likelihood is that it probably would not be." Ironically, that statement is followed by footage of an A-10, which is still flying only because of pressure placed on the Air Force by Congress at the behest of the Army, and that situation is one which is often quoted by Space Force proponents.

As a USAF veteran, I can appreciate the complexities of protecting our military and civilian assets in space, and the risk that the Russians, China, Iran, and North Korea are now and will be in the future if allowed to go challenged!
Space satellites have gold plated wave guides, antennas, the latest in advanced electronic systems and the costs are substantial and we need to be able to protect our military satellites and to thwart any attempt by an adversary, to BLIND us by destroying our satellites!
      Peace through strength!

I have always thought the Coast Guard was more law enforcement then military though, like the Border Patrol. I would suggest "Major Tom to Ground Control... for the United States Space Force. More of a floating than Marching theme. I think "Twinkle Twinkle little star" would be rather gay.😏

Space is still in the pioneer stage. The space equipment is quickly becoming a leader in this country. Space is a large vast area. What we can do in space far exceeds using space for war. Perhaps early research studies would indicate that space could be used in manufacturing. This would facilitate the renewing of the earth. Some of the contents of the atmosphere in space would cleanse the byproducts and pollutants we now face in the form of air pollution and green house gases. Manufacturers would transport goods by air instead of by sea, trains and truckers. Wars in space could cause unintended damages to the vital sun, moon, other planets and even still the Earth. If space is used to fight a war, the cost of war would become astromocial and would involve the construction of rockets and super transports and the use of weapons that do not require air to function. The use of a space force would have to be carried out from here on the earth rather than in space.

When ordinary citizens are struck by these space age weapons (and they have been), there has been nobody to appeal to. Conventional law enforcement agencies have been turning the other way because of lack of technological capabilities. I am referring to the DEWs and related communications weapons. Maybe this could change this perspective. Average citizens have long been suffering under the impact of weapons directed from space (very real, probably run by adversaries) in a most intimate way, and there has been no response. This needs to change. Maybe a focus specific Space Force could be of benefit, to set up experts capable of understanding what is going on whose primary concentration is these new age esoteric weapons. That is, if their mindset is morally appropriate to our democracy. It does all hinge on that, so as not to backfire.

strategy is key. Structure is key.
Where are we in relationship to the Chinese and the Russians on this? I believe we have the technology on the shelf, what we need now is a Congress that can “understand it“.
The space program of the 60s gave us so many technologies that created millions of jobs. This is a true investment. The early space program gave us our laptops, iPads, iPhones etc. today. Who landed on the back of the moon? Who all but gutted NASA? Who shut down the Cavitron near Detroit, the particle Excelerator? _____ for $1000.00 Alex.
16:00 Ask the British in the first world war what happened to them. If we lose this, what are the implications? Will Russia and China act like the United States state in the last 3/4 of a century? I doubt it!
Use a time Manor Place metric. If the communist Chinese can deliver, and “control“ Internet from space, power, etc. are we gonna just sit there with our teeth in our mouth? President Trump has a four decade long history of planning and building.

The space force can be explained like part of a family. A child grows up under their parent control until they become of age to go on their own. The US Air Force grew up as the Army Air Corps and was very successful until it became an adult and went into a separate branch. The space force could also start out like a child within the family under the guidance of the air force. If it grows to be as large a force as the US Air Force, it could become its own branch at that time. NASA should also have a big role to play in its growth.

We need a Space Command to conduct war fighting operations in space and we need a Space Force to recruit, equip, train and maintain space forces to deploy under Space Command on order to conduct war fighting operations. This already is the same way the USAF, US Army, USMC, and US Navy operate. They provide military forces on order to the Combatant Commands to execute assigned missions. The use of space as a domain will continue to grow and its importance will continue to grow. Our enemies recognize this and have moved out to attack this objective. We need to get our act together and do the same NOW!
