It was lots of fun spinning on this wheel, but I think if I was going to get one for myself, I would have to go with a single treadle. 😳 Fortunately, Lendrum has that option! If you want to purchase a Lendrum spinning wheel, you can find one at the Woolery! 👉 (affiliate link) woolery.com/lendrum-original-double-treadle-spinning-wheel-complete-package.html?aff=186

JillianEve, like you, I prefer a single treadle. My Ashford Traddy is single treadle. I also have Schact Matchless double treadle and like it too, but a spinning friend tells me that I treadle it like a single treadle person would. Ha! I think many spinners prefer double. But not me!

I have a double treadle and love it. I recently had knee surgery on my right knee and will have surgery on my left knee sometime in the future. I have found that the alternating motion of treadling on my double treadle was both therapeutic and relaxing.

I'm a devoted member of the #CultOfLendrum. 😄 The knob that lifts or lowers the mother of all is about setting the orifice height at a comfortable height. It's not for tension - this is Scotch tension and your brake band does that. If you raise the orifice you won't feel so inclined to lean forward as much.
Also, for the mother of all the best way to replace the brake band is bakers twine and a thin hair elastic. The elastic goes on the hook under the mother of all and then you wind the twine around the tension peg and tie it to the elastic.
While I've heard some people use a cotton drive band with no issues, I find it way too slippery and much prefer the poly bands.
I personally prefer the double treadle. It's easier on my hips and ankles because I address the wheel straight on and both feet share the work.
Great review! I always love seeing people love Lendrums. 😁

I am jealous too that she found it in GOOD WILL! And I didn't. But if it could happen there it could happen here too. Now I 've calmed down and can honestly say I'm happy for her. Maybe just a smidgen of jealousy until I continually tell myself that spinning wheel miracles can happen anywhere. And Jillian you are a spinning miracle to many, including me. Thank you for all the work you do to pass on the spinning gift to others, and keep the art of our grandmothers alive!

This was the wheel I learned on. Took a class at my LYS and just happened to choose this wheel out of all the ones they offered. I LOVED IT and bought one on the spot. I do have a Kromski Prelude and a Roadbug for travel but the Lendrum is my workhorse for 15 years now. Glad you like it!

This reminds me of my kiwi 3. Got a double treadle because I have a bad right side (foot , knee , hip)
Recently got back into spinning after 20+ years . When I was little I was taught at school because we had a petting zoo and we processed the wool of out sheep inc coloring with plants , weaving and spinning.

Just got my Lendrum after watching many of your spinning videos...what a help they are! I've also got a Louet S10 that I absolutely love (I like the modern look) so I'm now a 2 wheel home. What I like the most is when you get into the history of items as you do....spinning has such a long history. I learned a lot about Scottish Highland spinning/yarn/knitting on my two trips there and it was fascinating. Men often dominated the spinning/weaving on and off there. Interesting. Wool, wool everywhere. :)

I've been hunting and researching for my first wheel after spending several months using my drop spindle. It finally broke a weeks ago, so my hunt has intensified. Now I'm honing in on the Lendrum DT. I'm in love with the look, the fact that it can be portable (it has a travel bag on the Woolery website), and the complete set has everything you need to get started. Hm... I think I found my wheel, now to properly save up for it.

Well you know I’m a big fan of Lendrums - I call it the Honda Civics of wheels - a great all-rounder. My Matchless is a Cadillac and far more finicky. 😀
I’d recommend getting a Super Lube pen from Amazon - just $4.40 and it’ll last years. The main hub doesn’t need oil but some of the other parts (esp the orifice) need a perk up every now and again.
The poly band, with care, will last years and years. I’m on six years with mine. Remember to put it in a resting position (not on any whorl) when not in use.
Last - I use a thin crochet cotton for the brake band and use a small elastic hair tie to secure it on the bottom left hook of the mother of all.
Kudos to your friend on such a great find. If it was RLB color me shocked!

After a lifetime of spinning and owning many wheels...a Louet S10, Majacraft Suzie then an Aura, a HitchHiker, a JourneyWheel, and a Schachdt Reeves Saxony...I had the opportunity to spin on a Lendrum, and I was hooked. Now she is my go to wheel. I love the easy of spinning, for my injured left knee...no problem. Be sure to get the recommended poly band for the flyer on the wheel. Did it come with any of the additional flyers? There is a different poly band for the larger flyer. With those you can spin anything! This truly is the best wheel for me. What an amazing find!
    You should get one too...

Love mine. Also bearings need another type of oil cause of bearings. You can use one foot to treadle no problem on a double treadle. Love my Lendrum over Matchless anyday.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, I did a little research about the oil. The bearings on the Lendrum have nylon so any oil that has an added acid can break down the nylon. Whatever oil is used should be checked to ensure there are no additives!

      Hi @TrishaMorse
I'm new to spinning, last summer took a week long workshop. Which caused me to dream of getting my own wheel. Covid purchase, my excuse. Size (lack of space), something that I could take with me, versatility(lots of spinning options) and also value for money were my main criteria. It being Canadian made was a bonus. I purchased and received my Lendrum DT complete about a month ago and am soooo pleased. I have played with all the bits, having a great time learning to spin. Btw not necessary but I ordered a very fast bobbin and an additional jumbo bobbin . Good luck in your hunt, you will find what is right for you.

Hey girl! I've had my lendrum for about 3 years now and it's got miiiiiiles, so many that my flyer actually has a groove worn into it 😅
I live in the boonies and just before the crazy started I broke my drive band *and* my tension band on the same 5 seconds 🤦🏽‍♀️ I have a knotted polyester yarn scrap for both 😂 and it's worked for over a year! Also, I do not subscribe to the knee-hight thing, I'm super short and have two bad hips and I spin from my couch. I also took music lessons for my entire school career so I also perch on the front of my chair 🙈 it can't be helped, my family even notice it when I go over to eat dinner
I find the lendrum to be really intuitive, I had a kiwi2 and we did *not* get along, im super short and even with a tall chair I just couldn't do it. I have found that pillows help with my back, I can be perched forward on the seat but my back is supported, it's the only time I use a back pillow. I honestly recommend lendrums to everyone 😁 I want to say I've had people tell me they single treadle even on a double, but I have better evenness with both. So intuitive!
