These people are truly amazing, And I absolutely fell in love with the culture. Sharing tea and a ruby to symbolize a bond shared between each other. The hospitality. Beautiful people. I have a dream of going there one day.
Love that you go right in and talk with the people, see how they work and get a different understanding of it all, I commend you for not just rocking up with a fat wallet like the gem isn't worked hard for, you are respectful and kind to these people. Great video, Thank you for taking us with you 👍🏼🇳🇿
Thanks for your support :). I think it is really important to know and connect with the sources of gemstones. I made another documentary about a work in Madagascar that really gets into the people behind the industry, I think you would enjoy watching it :) You can watch it through the following link (or just Story Behind the Stone, by Lawson Gems) th-cam.com/video/220DF2YiyJQ/w-d-xo.html
Raja bhayya Brazil me hindi boli jaati hai kya, aachi baat Hai Ji mera desh ki bhasha bhasha ko Brazilian bolne lage wa re wah, idhar kyu aaye ho mere desh me,
Thank you sharing this video you get a more appreciation of the people and the mining that it takes to have beautiful stones of all kinds. I personally love ruby even though I can not afford a decent Burma Ruby.
They people of Myanmar should have been rich with such huge resources of natural gemstone but they look so humble and nice. Even the Royalty wore these gems
We, ppl of Myanmar have no right to get all, because military control nearly all of business deal with natural resources. The leaders of military are become more rich. Sad for civilians.
What the government means when they say they limit the power one holds in the mining industry, what they mean is they limit the amount of normal people that can mine while giving all the power to corporations and forcing the people to work for them earning a tiny fraction of the price
Well done this video. By people who know what they talk about. Did not see you buy gems, though. I made screenshots of the open tumbler wet polishing a variety of stones. Hope to find out more about this technology.
Glad you enjoyed the video. If you want to find out more about that style of tumbler, they are called vibratory tumblers. They are generally better than rotary tumblers and they less likely to damage less tough stones and can be more quiet as well. You can usually pick these up from lapidary or jeweller supply stores (they are used for bulk polishing jewellery too), however if you want to pick up the exact same machine, usually for a much much cheaper price, you should actually try a gun shop. Vibratory tumblers are actually used for cleaning brass bullet casing when reloading ammunition and for some reason gun industry doesn't put the large markups on the exact same tumblers that the gem and jewellery industries do 😅.
@@Lawsongems Ohh. Such a valuable reply. Did I expect so much? No.. but thanks to this information I will look out for these machines. Still I plan to build a large barril tumbler after having seen such made by a TH-camr. Suitable for larger size rocks.
I really loved this video, it was put together nicely and it was very informative. I do a little hunting of gemstones myself but haven't traveled outside the USA to other countries yet. I really love hunting the stones and then making them into beautiful jewelry or keeping certain pieces for my personal collection.
I can't believe that was your first time filming because it seem so natural. I can't wait to travel outside the USA. I love learning about new places and different cultures. I wish you many more trips. Keep on making videos, you're good at it.
+carole aldred Haha glad you like them! Gem collecting is a great hobby and a great way to make a living if you can ;) If you want to learn more keep an eye on my channel, but there are some great institutions out there as well when it comes to education. My top pick would definitely be the British Gem-A, check out their website for a lot of good info.
Thanks for showing how rubies are mined and how the Thai people are included in prospering for the gems. I wanted to know pricing and hear about deals. Is a trip worth it? Can the Thai people selling gems, on the whole, be trusted or are they all pretty much a bunch of slight of hand salesmen (like street selling in the U.S.?
It depends on where you go, but as a general rule of thumb I don't recommend people with no experience to go to the mines. Your best bet would be to start somewhere like Bangkok where there is a fluorishing gem trade and it is also very tourist firndly (though there are still many people that will try to scam you). Before doing any kind of gem buying trip I would advise as much study as possible, ideally going through a gemmological institute like GIA, Gem-A, AIGS, GAA etc. There are a million and one ways you can be cheated when it comes to gemstones so the more knowledge you have before you start the better!
Very interesting I find even though I’m from Myanmar myself but of course from different part. Someday I would like to go back to my home land for jem touring such a fine fascinating place. 👌👌👌
Hello sir, I am following your channel many times, so I have a question to you that can you explain about gemstones ruby and emblem and I how knowing which ones is real and fake stone ?😊😊
Why is it so short??? U could've described the towns in more details, price of lodge & food. How much the whole trip cost??? I would like to make sucha trip
Haha yeah, there is always the delicate balance between a TH-cam video that is too long or too short. But I felt this was a good compromise for information and duration 😁
I felt as if I was on the journey and touring *with* you. You made this video _fun_ and _exciting!_ Do you need a permit to buy these amazing gems overseas and bring them back to your country for jewelry making ? Just curious because of duty laws and customs at the airport
Hi Michelle, I am glad you enjoyed the film! This was actually my first ever attempt at film making haha. You do definitely have to take both export and import regulations when it comes to gemstones. With Lawson Gems, we almost exclusively work through customs brokers on both ends of the journey. This just makes things far less stressful, you can always have a go yourself but when dealing between a number of different countries having the right customs broker makes life significantly easier. I should also not that we did need permits to enter the Mogok area as well as our standard tourist documentation.
@@Lawsongems well you're on the way to winning an Oscar or better yet, *Best movie director* award lol. _Well done!_ I asked because I collect semi precious stones but locally in South Africa. Who would have thought that _Stones_ would be so interesting lol. I'd like to also collect valuable gems and thank you for telling me about the laws of doing so especially overseas. Am too young to end up in jail over stones lol
in Indonesia there is a gemstone that is very beautiful and can be morphed, we call it Bacan stone. because it is on the island of Bacan.. it is located in the eastern part of Indonesia.

No hassle at the border, I suppose! I’m not surprised based on the existence of the nearby boat crossings, but before seeing that, I assumed the border was much more militarized. Was it different during the civil war? Can it change rapidly? Does it depend on where you are?
I'm no expert or have great knowledge of gemstones! but My curiosity over time led me to short videos and have fascinated me with the beauty of gemstones. My friends brother in law is a craftsman (metalsmith) who created diamond ring for his wife, which to me means more from the heart than purchasing in jewellers. If I had opportunity to do the same and purchase a gemstone already cut from a local and to create my own wedding band would be a amazing opportunity. Octagon shape would be my interest, nothing to large nothing to small. Would I be looking at a much cheaper rate than local jeweller in Ireland? Possible weight and price in euro? I would really appreciate if someone could help me out please. Myself and large group of friends will be travelling to Thailand and spending few months travelling in 2017 and if I have chance to visit Mogok I would like to purchase a gemstone if possible. Thanking you in advanced for any information provided.
Hi Stevo, my advice would be to hit Silom Road in Bangkok. It is the center for the gem trade there and you will have nop problem finding gems, just be sure to find out a bit about what you are buying and if you have time get a gem report for anything expensive you buy (I would recommend the GCI laboratory in the JTC building on Silom road, they are good guys and a lot better priced and a lot more trustworthy than some of the other labs around. For Mogok, I would say jump on to google and contact one of the new and increasingly plentiful tour groups that go there. The paper work and permissions can be a massive headache so it will make your life a lot if you go with an organised group. Otherwise it sounds like you have a good trip planned so I would just say get out there and see what you can find, I am sure neither Bangkok or Mogok will disappoint when it comes to gems!
Your a gem! I appreciate the fact you took the time to reply and honest answer with further information about Bangkok. Keep up the good work and thank you kindly.
I enjoyed your video docu trip! Question: Did you see any trapische rubies while there? That area is supposedly only one of a very few locations in the world for those unusual rubies. Thanks!
If the stones are of good enough quality I would recommend getting an official valuation from a registered valuer. This will also give confidence to the end consumer as having a valuation report helps generate trust.

No there is no geological reason......it just kinda happened randomly
Now that was an awesome gemstone market! Thanks!
Yeah for sure!
Good work on the video! Very professional looking and sounding.
Haha thanks, this was my first attempt at making a gem documentary :P
Great job! so much better than my first. I was more doing a review than a doc though.
Awesome video do more of such visit again
Yeah, I hope to get back there soon 😁
Mr lawson, indeed, super - intersting and educative tour 👍
Glad you liked it :)
Such a nice tour in short time...
I love watching stuff like this pretty cool
This was so informative and enjoyable! You should have wayyyy more subscribers!
Haha here's hoping my subs keep going up :P

Thanks :) It was very educational even for me to make the film!
You have to come to Indonesia specially Jakarta there is a place call Rawa Bening the centre of gem stone
I felt as if I was on the journey and touring *with* you. You made this video _fun_ and _exciting!_
Do you need a permit to buy these amazing gems overseas and bring them back to your country for jewelry making ?

Mas esses pedras sao muitos caro. e ususada como um gem. Na India, mulheres e homem tambem usa esse com Jwellarios. Burma/Mynmar e perto de India. Obragado.
No hassle at the border, I suppose! I’m not surprised based on the existence of the nearby boat crossings, but before seeing that, I assumed the border was much more militarized. Was it different during the civil war? Can it change rapidly? Does it depend on where you are?
thanks for showing us an unknown place
No worries :)
What is the current average price per carat of a Burmese ruby (heated) in Thailand?
A great job ,thanks for the video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

As a 7 year old video, I find this super interesting!
Hi that’s impressive video
Need more documentaries from u!!

Thanks, I am currently working on one that shows the mine to market process for Queensland sapphires :)
I enjoyed your video docu trip! Question: Did you see any trapische rubies while there? That area is supposedly only one of a very few locations in the world for those unusual rubies. Thanks!
Wonderfully informative video. Kudos to you.
thanks :)
I want this type of market to replace all casinos and all crazy industries on a global scale. May this happen ASAP. Let everyone be rich.

I'm getting my hands on Big Rubies 144.10 Carats and 219 Carat Rubies. I need Value Estimates on them. Best place to Sell Near Maryland?
If the stones are of good enough quality I would recommend getting an official valuation from a registered valuer. This will also give confidence to the end consumer as having a valuation report helps generate trust.
Welcome to our country🇲🇲
Great video.Next time maybe you should go Jade land upper side of Myanmar,Kachin.
