Great video, I remember buying my first computer from the Barras, an Atari ST with Cubase back in the early 90's, also there was a wee porno mag place that I used to visit and it was always full of customers, glory days that have long since gone.
We got married in January 1972 and because fresh flowers were too expensive I bought an artificial bouquet from the Barras! Don’t think I’ve been to the Barras since. That was a lovely trip down memory lane.
Can anybody remember 'kinky johns' shop which appeared as a hoover repair shop which was a front for the Wullie Thorne DVD's in the back? He wore a dust jacket as a smeggother
You're right James, not what it used to be but it's definitely improving and they are working really hard to attract a new generation of Barras customers - fingers crossed! :) Hope you enjoyed Dad's short film! :)
Good to see that the Loch Fyne is still there 😊 I came from the Gorbals and because I ran about with with the Cumbie Gang we had to be careful in the late 60s and early 70s because we fought with the San-Toi and the Calton Tongs who came from the Barras area , from Glasgow 😎🇬🇧
Yes I remember Bert … he did the great countdown spiel … “Not 100 … 90…80…70….60 or 50 …. … I have a lost voice recording of Bert on a mini disc / sound only …. It’s somewhere in a box of my archive minidisc recordings
Loved this. What a charming man 🤩

@@1gerard47 I went to them both. Amazing places. The real Glasgow, which has now being slowly gentrified and sterilised.
Sad to see how it's dying out. I remember the barras booming in the late 90s early 2000 . CDs dvd and tobacco 😂
